Very few books have emotionally engaged me like this one. When you are caught hook, line and sinker, Gwynne's got you. It's not the ending I would have hoped for, but a bittersweet one nonetheless. And yes- it is because the story will go a la 'Game of Thrones'. Love that character? they just had their jugular sliced out of nowhere. And now for my only complaint about the entire series, and the prequel series. (view spoiler)[ No Elyon. Elyon's appearance and/or action would have been awesome, the pansy. (hide spoiler)]

This book teaches good values that I would want to instill in my children, if I were to have any. Truth, Courage, Loyalty, Family, Friends. What more can you do, indeed.

Gwynne took one of my nights and throttled me for a 250 page marathon read. I haven't had this much fun with a series since beginning my Epic Fantasy journey with David Dalglish's Shadowdance and Half Orcs series. Thanks John for making a wonderful series. Whether we return to this world of the Banished Lands or not, I am proud to have your works in my collection and glad to have had the privilege of reading them.
