really liked it

Ah Riley, your character never fails to disappoint. Despite the reviews I'd read briefly online, I'm not totally won over by this book as a lot of other readers seem to be. Its by far not the best in the series, even if Riley getting the guts to say no to Quinn is the end result.

I wasn't thrilled with the bad guys in this book and I think the lack of development on their part shows that they as characters were mainly there only to facilitate Quinn's character background. This book felt more like a bridge than the others, and I'm glad that when I finished it, I felt like I gained more insight into the core characters of the series. Really the "demons" were only facilitators and not a main part of the plotline, or that's the impression I got.

The one thing that I will admit disappointed me the most was the final fight with Gautier. I felt like it should have been way more intense and more of a close call than it ended up. Arthur tried to make up for this scene with gauntlet fight scene from Jin to Gautier to Kingsley, but the substance just wasn't there. And what ever happened to Marcus? Was he totally forgotten in the final chapters? I'm praying he doesn't come back in a future book.

Overall I still love the main plot lines this series sticks to. I'm curious to see how things progress from Book 5 to Book 6 since I've already read The Darkest Kiss.
