Read 2 times. Last read March 22, 2023 to March 23, 2023.
Man this book really sucked. Usually at least 1 out of 3 couples in Brockmann's books have a really good story. Not so this time. Not only were they not good, they were downright annoying.
Mike was too polite and was constantly groveling.
Joan was such a bitch. She took advantage of Mike so many times.
Mary Lou was constantly put down and I'm sorry to say I've lost all of my respect for Sam.
Even the wives' group thing where Mary Lou didn't get invited and was subtly put down was because of Sam. He didn't respect her and so neither did his colleagues or their partners.
He never did any work at all with Hayley and he wanted to be her dad, well eff you Sam. Mary Lou was freaking 22, probably 21 when they got married.
I'm not sure I want to read his & Alyssa's book at this point.
Not to mention Charlie waiting sixty freaking years to reassure her husband Vince. Sixty years!
Also the book was so long, I kept checking how many pages were left.
The ending was even worse with no resolution!! We don't know how they work out their bicoastal relationship. We don't know what happens to Mary Lou.
Verdict: What a shit show!
P.S: If this book wasn't essential to understand the next book, I would recommend you skip it. In fact, skip it anyway and just read a few reviews here to get the gist of the story.
