Interview with the Vampire (The Vampire Chronicles, #1)

I am disturbed by the ever present air of pedophilia hanging over each passage where Claudia is mentioned. Like genuinely why is this book so well rated and why in any of the reviews I read did I see no mention of this? Literally even the scene where she is turned uses phrases like "I wanted her." Then as you get further into it, and she starts to grow mentally, he begins to describe how like sensual she is and it was disgusting. "Father and daughter, lover and lover." "I was estranged from her and in agony as if she were my bride." "'Kill with me tonight,' she whispered as sensually as a lover."
And while I do enjoy the TV adaptation, I am kind of shocked at the way it painted Louis in a much kinder light, even making him a black man who specifically calls Lestat out on racism while in the book he is a plantation owner who is horribly racist himself.
All in all.... Anne Rice what the fuck....🤢

Agreed. It was so disgusting I could not finish the book. I cannot understand how this is a “classic.”

I AGREE!! It's repulsive. I'm trying to finish but it's ruining the book for me. He even describes her CHILD body as desirable for its childlike features. Ugh. That and the racist takes on slavery and Black people in general. Yikes.
I think with all the pedophilia programming being pumped into society now ... your thoughts have turned to skew and judge something that isn't there.
..and after all these characters are vampires, not human..would you expect them to hold to the morals of mortal beings
I am under the same opinion as yours. I was so hyped sometimes and then that started happening and boom, was feeling disgusted. And to amondine, i get it that not every character has to be likable, but that can still happen without tons of pedophilia in a book, specially when there's not one character condeming those actions. And not everyone has to like to read pedo shit happening in the book they're reading...
