(view spoiler)[I finally tried this and my prediction was quite prophetic indeed!! I absolutely could NOT stand this book and what the author made of this story, and its underlying themes and messages!! Sure, there was a lot that was sweet here … but you can’t sugarcoat fundamental problems and issues, and objectively there were quite a few!!
Essentially villainizing and demonizing a character, because he doesn’t want kids?!?! What the fuck is up with that?!! When a reader feels more for the X, and for the main character, you know that the author failed you as a reader - that’s how it was for ME at least!! I mean … face the facts … many many many people do not want children … EVER, and that’s absolutely, perfectly, completely great to feel that way!! Not everyone wants to be fucking saddled with children and it’s not the fucking end all and be all of everything!! While kids CAN be a wonderful addition to whomever wants them (couples, throuples, etc) - I don’t dispute that or shame anyone who wants kids - it’s important to recognize that children do not MAKE a family or a relationship work!! Authors and people everywhere, stop shoving the idea, expectation, or benchmark standard of kids down peoples’ throats!! Fucking enough already!!!
If you want something, great, but shut the fuck up already about what you think other people should want or have!! Live and let live, in peace and without badgering, expectation, or judgment!!
Added to that, the way things were set up here in terms of the overall resolution with the nannying thing … it was just all so fucking weird and off, and quite frankly, archaic, 1950s mentality, and very tone deaf … especially in today’s social climate (or just in ANY social climate … forcing your wants and expectations on other people is just gross and creepy)!! Furthermore, thinking you can change somebody’s mind just because of how you feel it’s not only fucking manipulative as hell, it’s selfish as fuck!! So fucking off-putting - and in whatever offputting way the author feels, when putting that on the main character it just destroyed the book for me!! Completely!!
In a society where we FINALLY recognize and acknowledge that it’s absolutely NOT okay to “shame” people for what they like or want (provided there is decency, honour, goodness, and integrity behind it), the same MUST be said for what a person DOESN’T want!! It is perfectly great (not just okay) to NOT want something for yourself!!
So again, with the way this author approaches everything here, whether it’s her own thoughts or merely for the book (though frankly it’s clear they are essentially one and the same), the way it’s expressed here is quite archaic, backwards, selfish, disappointing, and extremely off-putting!! Also, I’m going to mention one more time that the resolution in this book was so fucking weird!!!
All in all, the way this author obnoxiously and frankly, quite ignorantly, villainized the ex just really really pisses me off and turns me off to anything she might possibly come up within the future, just because I really dislike the way she forces her viewpoint, where she fucking decided to take it, and the way she executed that thought process!! It just felt very gross and yucky!! I am not at all for the direction this author is going in, and that’s perfectly fine, but this author is absolutely not for me anymore and this is where we permanently part ways … indefinitely!!!!
For me, whatever charm this author once had, she has completely lost (where my reading experience with her is concerned), and I am just done!! The below, completely and absolutely stands!! It always will!!
I’m definitely not saying this author is not a great writer, because her overall talent is very very clear - setting this book aside and generally speaking - she IS absolutely a fantastic writer and she has written some magically wonderful books, her beautiful way with words and the way she has weaved some incredible stories is *chef’s kiss* - I have absolutely adored so many of her earlier books!! However these days (with her newer books), I have come to the obvious conclusion that she is likely far better suited for others now, and is most definitely NOT suited for me any longer (unless she returns to her older book roots ha); she’s most definitely not the author for me anymore!!! Disclaimer: I will keep this final conclusion pending for at least a little while longer, and on a case-by-case basis, because she really is a fantastic author, and I am willing to keep an open mind for future books, depending on what those books are!! Like I said, very VERY case, by case!! I will make my final and permanent decision, then!!!
Having said ALL that, just because I didn’t like this book at all, doesn’t mean somebody else won’t, so it’s worth giving a try!!

While this author USED TO BE on my very exclusive list of very appreciated "auto-buy authors", this author PERMANENTLY EJECTED herself from that list a long long time ago, merely due to the fact that several of this author's latest books have been really, really, REALLY bad and disappointing ... to the point where I almost doubted that one of those books was even written by her - I mean I KNOW it was written by her but the writing was so foreign to what I’ve originally come to expect from this author that I was shocked the same author wrote that horrible drivel (because it was THAT bad and so unlike this author's established writing style, which used to be so SO good)!! Anyway, I will only ever strictly try any and all new books by this author through Kindle Unlimited FIRST (and IF I like it, I'll buy it too - so that's a win-win), but if it isn't on Kindle Unlimited, then I simply will NOT give it a try at all!! I just don't trust this author's writing anymore and no longer believe that everything she puts out will be any good!! But it is what it is *shrugs matter of factly* ... sometimes authors steadfastly and unfailingly continue on your reading journey with you [and I do have a long LONG list of absolutely and increasingly spectacular and wonderful authors EXACTLY like that], and sometimes you just have to leave a few behind as you permanently move on (I think this might be one of those authors that belongs in the latter group) ... we shall soon see!!
ETA: I’ve decided that I’m going to pass on this one! A book which seems to really focus on babies, which I am not a fan of children or babies in my MM books (or books general), this one is just absolutely not for me!! So I’m going to be passing on it!! (hide spoiler)]
