It's great that André Aciman brought back to life these memoirs and allowed readers to partake in his experience of leaving behind Alexandria, aged 14, with other members of his picturesque family. His was a forced exile, unlike that of the Jews leaving Egypt under Moses leadership centuries before. Nonetheless, a vivid metaphor of migration and refugees of all times and all kinds.
