Wow. This book. I don’t even know what to say. I’m embarrassed for the naïveté I’ve walked through world possessing while so many people, Vietnam vets and any veterans of war or violence of any form, have experienced. Twice now, Kristin Hannah has opened my eyes to the sacrifices of war and the pervasiveness of it all, the way it never ends for those affected. But she absolutely nails the power of friendship, the formidable strength of women and the love that transcends all the ugliness of life. Gutted by this story but so very grateful to her for opening my mind and heart yet again.

Ps one minuscule suggestion point for the author: sequoias don’t grow in Mendocino County… those are redwoods. 😉
