He left the ranch when he was younger after his father died, his mother took her children and left. Duke is there to decide if they are going to keep the ranch or sell it.

A childhood friend, Carrie is a foreman on the ranch. He feels an instant chemistry toward her. She is surprised he is there as he always desired for a career in the military. What he does with the ranch will impact her, if he sells she will be out of job.
