Friends to lovers is probably my favourite trope. Add in a heart-wrenching breakup and second chance romance and you've got my full attention. Sammy and Will are the sweetest boys at 18, even Sammy with his prickly exterior and absolute low self-esteem. Will is his 'something good' 🥹. But Sammy, as anyone with abusive parents knows, can't accept love. So they break up and make us all cry.
But then, 10 years after, they find their way back to each other. Sammy is all in, but Will is hurt and finalising his divorce from his a-hole exhusband, who is a cheating pos.
This was cute, sweet and surprisingly angsty. I wanted to wrap Sammy and his brother Jimmy in a warm hug and never let them go.
I loved Olivia, awesome fictional mum. And Julio. I love seeing kindness represented in books, we get so many mean characters, it's refreshing to find kind ones.
Sammy and Will get their HEA and it was super satisfying. The second half of the book goes slower and is less angsty, but the reparation was beautifully described.
Loved it. Can't wait to read about Jason and Zach.
