I received an ARC but all thoughts are my own.
I really enjoyed the story of Millie and Killian! The author handled the flashback scenes really well. They didn't disrupt the flow of the story and they were used just enough to show you the past that these two characters shared. It's been 10 years since Millie has seen Killian after he just vanished and man, the sexual tension was off the charts instantly. Killian is one of those unsuspecting alphas, where he looks like a laid back surfer but could kill a man in 100 ways, and melt your panties with just a look. He was perfect. Millie is a genius who's currently a college Professor but consults with the FBI on certain cases, especially those involving cults. When someone reaches out to the FBI about having concerns that their niece is trapped with a cult, Millie and Killian must team up to find the answers and hopefully save a young girl from a pretty horrible future.
I'll start off by saying I'm not usually a fan of cult story lines. This even carries over into my true crime reading/watching. But Kennedy L. Mitchell handled the story line really well and I was hooked from the start. I think the "telling, not showing" aspect was fantastic, as it made you side eye and question everything, but you still weren't 100% sure what was going on behind the curtain. This was a fast paced book that wasted no time getting to the good stuff. And I loved seeing characters from the other books in the series!
The spice was A+ and used just enough. Millie had no issues asking for what she wanted which I loved, and Killian was more than happy to give it to her. *eyebrow wiggle* If you've enjoyed the other books in this series, it's safe to say you'll enjoy this one too!
