Sabine was blamed for the fire which killed her mother and sister, both of whom she adored. She is a victim of circumstances and of course she wouldn't every have maliciously killed people she loved. She was barely and adult when this awful event happened, but she's resourceful and has support in the form of her grandfather who loves her dearly but who is getting very elderly and the man who loves her.
Sabine lives in a houseboat on the river, keeping out of sight, and staying one step ahead of the police who are still determined to find her. When a reporter comes to live on the river in the home next to Sabine's grandfather and begins to put two and two together, Sabine makes a decision that will lead to the unravelling of her life. Sabine needs to trust her to tell her story and set the record straight, but she doesn't know what really happened, so she and the reporter set about finding answers.
I loved this book. I listened to the audiobook of it and it took over my life until it was done. I've always enjoyed this author's YA novels and I can recommend this one to an adult audience. Great read from beginning to end.
