Gilded Wicked Mirrors ticked all the boxes for me. I love fantasy, and I do so love a good mystery. So naturally, any book that combines the two immediately piques my attention. GWM has such a cozy mystery fantasy feel to it, and yet the stakes are much too high for it to ever fall into that category. It was easy to read but still has interesting and intricate worldbuilding with a standout magic system.
Quinn, our fmc, brings two extremes to the table. In her heart she longs to be a ballerina, but for now, she has to settle for being an extremely gifted medical examiner. I loved that Lewis gave us a female character who shows that we as women can be feminine and still handle the gruesome without blinking an eye. I mean, what beats a frilly tutu with blood splatter on it. Courageous, intelligent females in books have my whole heart.
Emrys is our newest shadow daddy. He is a total heartthrob and yet so so much more. I can't say more about him, apart from after finishing this I am completely heartbroken.
This book was cleverly written. Lewis doesn't miss a beat when it comes to terminology in the medical field. The dystexia rep is handled with exteme care and the mystery surrounding the mirrors was beautifully revealed, all while the villain hides in plain sight.
The ending of this book broke me. My heart is not okay, and I hope that Lewis gives us some type of miracle to look forward to in the coming books.
Gilded Wicked Mirrors is steamy, but there is no smut. The author does hint at later books becoming spicier.
