Can we talk about this adorable cover art?! I’m loving this trend where we can’t see their faces. Reminds me of the Lovelight Farms cover art, same artist?? 🤔
These are all tropes that I love so it seemed like this would be a slam dunk, but it didn’t really stand out to me. I think my biggest issue was that Farley was a comedian and I didn’t find any of her material remotely funny. So much of comedy is in the delivery but even if I had “been there” in person, I doubt she would have gotten many laughs from me. 🤷🏼♀️
They also were just a little too obviously perfect for each other for it to make sense for them to not already be dating. Her speaking ASL and just happening upon his deaf daughter’s birthday party was all just a bit too convenient to be believable. Sure, he’s ten years older, but who cares? Him being her manager was a pretty flimsy reason for them not to date as well. If he really thought that would be an issue, why was he so quick to say yes when the idea of them fake dating for publicity was presented?
Despite these issues, I will say that this seemed like a very healthy relationship. So many books portray insta love and relationships that are purely based on the physical. The best thing about the friends to lovers trope is that you know that when the characters say “I love you” they actually know each other well enough to mean it. I feel confident that this couple would make it past the epilogue.
I wasn’t crazy about Farley, but I loved Meyer and you will too! He is a near perfect book boyfriend. I’d love to meet him in real life but I’m sure the real life version would also be into 25 year olds. 🫠🙃
