I like these books for all but the social interactions outside the context of the Navy/Military.
I truly dislike the authors use of Jack Aubrey and at times some of the other characters but in the main that of the Jack Aubrey character. O'Brian took it to far. There is also this pervasive sense of, maybe unconscious, self harm to the characters.
The series on the whole delves into the insanity of people all to much and in my opinion to no real good. It drags down what I would have, if more balanced, considered a 5/5 series.
