All Fall Down (Embassy Row, #1)

I picked up this short, fast-moving YA mystery/thriller as a result of having enjoyed THE BLONDE IDENTITY, an adult rom-com by the same author. The thing I most appreciate about Carter's spy stories is that she writes with an eye to global geopolitics; her protagonists may be American but her stories thankfully range further afield. This story is set among the foreign embassies in a fictional Adriatic island nation and has elements of psychological thriller. It was a quick, breezy read and addictive enough that I'm already stuck into the second book, but I found it a little on the angsty side and I didn't find the psychological-thriller elements convincing or satisfying in a way I'm finding it hard to put my finger on. That said, the story's not done yet and I might as well keep reading because I bought all three books!
