Sadly, this is no better than the first book. There was no character development, and Lou is somehow more self-centred than in the first book. Then there's Reid, he is not as selfish as Lou, but God is he stupid and naive. I know that this is fiction, but some of the incidents are so unreal. Like, come now, no villain is that gullible and mistrustful. People don't make a binding alliance that easily.

Here's hoping book three is better.
