Irreverent, goofy, yet heartwarming, this story of two escaped lab cats manages to pack in adventure, alien invasion and the power of friendship. August and Charlie are like night and day but their disparate personalities work well together—when they’re not fighting like cats and dogs. The story of their team-up to help humans and fight an alien bent on taking over the world is inventive, inspiring and filled with surprises.

The illustrations are filled with bright colors, with the exaggerated features you expect from children’s cartoons. August, for example is short, squat, fuzzy and barely has any paws. Charlie is lean, angular and long legged. The story makes sense (as much as cartoons about talking cats can) and the payoff is sweet.

All this is told from the viewpoint of a talking litterbox (read the comic: it’ll all make sense). Children who like stories about talking animals will like this one.
