it was amazing

4.5 unexpectedly happy stars...I have had my fair share of "Freebie" books that have ended with huge cliffhangers or just been iffy at best, so when I got this "free book rec" I was pretty fired up when I found this to be a really good complete read.

This book starts off with a bang, literally...a gut-wrenching, horrific wtf moment that sets the pace for the book. Brooklyn Turner was left homeless after a murder/carjacking ordeal leaves her alone traumatized as a young child. Memories are repressed and she has grown into a closed off college student just keeping herself numb and safe from the outside world. She exists and goes through the motions of collegiate life with her roomie, and only friend Lexi.

Finn Chambers is the resident rock-God/male sex God for most of the campus. A literal run in puts Brooklyn into his arms and puts Finn in her mind. They have immediate chemistry and great smart-ass banter. I love the "I want to smack the smirk off your face all while jumping your body" attitude! Maybe Finn isn't the shallow male dbag Brooklyn expects...his actions with her and towards her are very sweet, very caring and very protective. For once Brooklyn feels safe and lighter.

This story is told through the eyes of Brooklyn with flashbacks into her childhood that begin to open up feelings and confusion with her relationship with Finn. She finds herself intimately drawn into a normalcy with Finn, soon realizing he is a trigger for her buried memories. Brooklyn begins to heal but both her and Finn's past eventually catches up with them. When Brooklyn becomes the object of a sick stalker, Finn's role in her life becomes uncertain. Trust is broken even though the truth of their love is still ever present.

This books is really satisfying. The characters are good, no whiny ass women. The Male lead is hot...really hot...and really deep. In that doesn't have you downloading, just know that there is a smoking hot scene that involves lots of blue paint! Finger painting has never sounded so fun! Overall, good characters, good chemistry, quite a bit of angst, fun loving girl bff moments, and a does of edge of your seat suspense/horror!
