it was amazing
bookshelves: college-romance, favorites, stand-alones

Wow.
That was amazing.
This book blew me away. I mean, I knew it was a good book, otherwise I wouldn’t have started it. But I didn’t know it was that good.
And the writing. Oh god, the writing. It was just –it was…
Freaking beautiful.
description
There was a scene, I think in chapter ten or eleven, that was so intense, so passionate and so beautiful that it felt like I held my breath. When it was over, I exhaled in a whoosh and I was like, wow, that was incredible.
You know it’s gonna be a damn good book when you’re hooked right from page one, the prologue, the first sentence. That was it for me. It sucked me in and pulled me and I went because I could tell it was worth it.
And it was. All I can say is that I want more, more, more.
I need more! This is gonna sound totally cliché but, I’m a book addict and I need my next dose, otherwise I’ll die from sadness and desperation and thinking too much.
Well, probably not but dammit, I really want more!
Finn and Brooklyn were such unique characters and I absolutely loved them. Go Finnlyn!
He was otherworldly gorgeous, like some kind of dark angel sent to save and destroy me all at once.
I wouldn't say that it was solely a romantic suspense. Yes, it had some action some dark stuff but that's not all. It was also a beautiful love story and about letting go, battling grief.
This book reminded me of Unteachable, because the writing in that book was so beautiful and haunting. I'm not saying they're similar or anything but because both of them are so good that they just reminded me of each other.
It was a refreshing take on NA after reading about all those damaged, broken virgins (who have nothing on Brooklyn, by the way) and possessive, growling 24/7 alpha males.
If I had to name one thing I didn't like about this book, it would be the ending. It has a HEA (thank God) but I felt that it was a little rushed. It would have been great if we got an epilogue set in a few years later or something.
I'm gonna end this review with my favorite quote from this book.
“Humans are flawed creatures – selfish and cowardly most of the time. We lie, cheat, and steal better than we do almost anything else. We hurt each other with words, actions, and omissions,”
“There is a one hundred percent guarantee that the people we love most will let us down. That’s the risk you take, when you open up your heart.”

Best debut novel ever!

Julie Johnson
“Grief is a kick in the chest. It steals your breath, hits you so hard you think you’ll never stand back up again. And it’s not just because you’re grieving death or heartbreak or loss – you’re grieving change. You’re grieving the life that might have been, if it hadn’t all gotten fucked up along the way.”
