Simply put, this is one of the worst books I've ever read.

This is the first James Patterson book I've ever read. I know he's one of the most successful authors of my time, and sells a lot of books, so I thought for sure this book should at least be entertaining if nothing else. I was wrong.
This book manages to be both overly descriptive, and awkwardly descriptive on a consistent basis. No character is really well thought out. In the middle of the book, there is an inexplicable break where the story seems to progress several years for no reason at all. All it accomplishes is making you more confused as you must now readjust to almost all new characters.
Speaking of new characters...
There are also multiple times where a new character is introduced for only one chapter with the sole purpose of showing you how crazy the world has gotten with the violent animals. I understand what the authors are attempting here...but it falls extremely flat.
To be fair, maybe this isn't indicative of the kind of books Patterson is usually a part of. But it will be a long time before I pick up one of his books on my own just to check it out. I will need to have a very promising personal recommendation from someone I trust to read something of his again. There are too many other books I know will be better calling my name. I wouldn't even recommend this book to kill time.
