I got The Duke based on the reviews of this book and the series. I love a good historical romance book and I was really excited about this one.
This wasn’t a bad book, it just didn’t fit the mood or perception I thought the book was going to be about. I didn’t even read the summary.
The beginning started out really great and it felt like a five star read to me. I was into the story. Imogen (beautiful name) is a nurse by day, a respectable trade and a seductress at night. She is a bar maid and she lets men fondle over her, but she doesn’t go all the way.
Collin is royalty and has a mega chip on his shoulder. He’s an interesting and brooding character. I liked him at first, but as I got into the book I realized he’s a pretty big jerk. It was hard for me to find him redeemable.
This book reads a little bit suspenseful and not that much steam happens. I wanted a no fuss, super cute historical romance and so the overall plot didn’t work for me.
Also, the Heroine was really strong and as much as I love a strong Heroine, I wanted a damsel in distress. So I can see why everyone loved this book. I just didn’t think it jived with what I had planned in my head.
