it was amazing

Wow. I don’t even know where to start right now. Once I had read the blurb of SOL by Leslie McAdam, I was sold and it became an immediate must-read for me. Little did I know, the blurb does not even scratch the surface of all the emotions, the depth, the beauty this story entails. Oh my God. I still feel my tears drying while typing this. And, no, this was not the only time this book brought me to tears.

I won’t go much into the storyline, in order not to spoil a thing for you and keep it as vague as the synopsis. Better go in blind, but be prepared for an onslaught of emotions.

Danika Anderson is a freebird – a gypsy, if you will, traveling the world, with no roots, no definite home at all. When she has enough of one place, she just packs her things and moves on – Peru, Greece and now Spain, you name it wherever her feet will carry her. She is adventurous and carefree with a very hippie-like view of the world, which I truly admired – and yet, it was a shield most of all: It sheltered her from bad experiences and people in general, basically keeping them out of her life, out of her heart. A perfect dichotomy which I adored and cursed in equal measure.

Trent Milner has basically known Dani, his best friend’s big sister, his whole life and has been in love with her for as long as he can remember. Now, discharged from the military which he joined with his best friend Degan years ago, he is looking for Dani and finding her on the other side of the world. His time with the army might be over, but the cruelest task still lies ahead of him… He is one wonderful human being: sensitive, compassionate, full of love and in general absolutely swoon-worthy.

SOL not only tackles the topic of grief and forgiveness in an utterly beautiful way, it also deals with PTSD and survivor’s guilt very carefully. All of this interwoven with the healing and cleansing power of yoga makes for one incredible soul-deep and maybe even a bit philosophic story.

What you expect: a student / teacher romance with a trace of military – what you get: so, so much more!
