it was ok

kinda feel like this was not appropriate for the intended age range, and also..... you should maybe not write a novel whose primary purpose is social critique of a society you don't belong to? just my opinion

NCChris This was my concern, too. Being a reporter/humanitarian gives her insight into the culture, but she still is PART of the culture. As a white woman myself, we really need to stop crowding out the voices of women of color about their own culture. By all accounts folks like her books - they're probably not bad, but I am actively trying to read more work by authors of color about their lived experiences, so I think I will pass on this, sadly.

Jenna Dillon Sure, authors should only write about the cultures they were born into. I guess there goes all fantasy novels, scientific nonfiction by sociologists who live among another people, and every historical fiction book ever.
