I finally read this book from the Aberrant Magic Series, even though I said I wouldn't, and really,
I wish I hadn't, since I can never get back the many hours I wasted reading this, and even now, my comments to Lyn Gala, that I stated 8 months ago, still stand.

As I said, I wasted my time reading this because the characters were flat, and did not have the same depth and excitement or my love of them as the first 4 books in this series.

While I loved the other books with Kavon and Darren, and I've been a fan of Lyn Gala practically forever, back when she was at LiveJournal during the fanfic days, I am still very disappointed in the change of characters, especially when ALL of the other books were about those two, but now these new characters were thrown in that we know nothing about nor who have the same feel nor the same story excitement the other books gave us readers.

I have always felt that authors that change characters, bring in additional love-interests for the MC couple, or change the story completely by the end of a story are cheating their readers. Yet if the writer had changed a new character each book, I could forgive the author, and would not be as upset, but to change after so many books with the same beloved couple, and not even tell a story about couples we already know is truly disingenuous to the fans, and so, I am very disappointed.

For me personally, the first books were not only about Kavon and Darren, it was also about their cases that they, and their group investigated, especially with them as Shaman and the rest of their FBI Task Force.

The Magical Plain and Darren's Spirit Creature truly have so much more to be explored, and learning about the different magic their people used, but also the other characters in the books was fascinating, and kept me going back book after book, and even now, there are still opened cases from the previous books that have not been closed, and we still do not have the answers to everything about those, but yet, an entire new novel with brand new characters was thrown in.

I realize most stories come to writers body, mind and soul, but to change the characters while there is more that could be done with Kavon and Darren as the MCs, as far as cases they were working on, seems wrong, especially when they really do not seem to be a part of this new story at all, except as secondary characters. I cannot help but feel it is disingenuous to the fans who read the first books for the exciting cases and things they as FBI Agents did.

Don't get me wrong, Lyn Gala is a great writer, I would not have followed her for so many years if not, but the fans are what took her where she is now, and this book is highly disappointing, and far below what I've read and expected from Ms. Gala.

I am truly sorry to say that I will not be reading more of this series, even if Lyn Gala writes additional books about characters we already know and love, since this writer has shown she cares not about her readers. It now goes on my Disingenuous Authors shelf.
