Cabin 12 (Rock Point, #2)

We met Bella and Jasper in book 1, Keeping 6, but I strongly feel that you could pick up Cabin 12 and not be lost in the story. From their first impressions of each other Bella thinks Jasper is a player and she is certainly not going there again. Jasper sees Bella as a pampered princess. When investigations start in town and Jasper finds himself keeping an eye on Bella, he quickly sees a whole different side to her and slowly we watch the dislike turn to something more. They have serious chemistry that they were obviously fighting even though they didn't realize it. The growing of this relationship happens over a fairly short period of time but doesn't feel rushed in any way. They have many ups and downs along they way, from Bella's worries of the past keeping her cautious to Jasper's feeling that he isn't enough and can't give her the things she really needs.
In true Freya Barker fashion the suspense and the weaving of the story line is well planned out. You almost feel like you are part of the investigation and need a notepad to take notes as you read. I find myself trying to see if I can figure out who "done it" before it is revealed.
There is a good balance between the suspense and romance in this book. I love that Ms Barker is not afraid to write about difficult subjects such as depression and self worth. She does this by building up her characters and showing us that not everyone is frail despite whatever issues or problems they have. Bella's big overbearing family brings with them many laughs and strong secondary characters to love.
I can't wait for more of the Rock Point series. Wonder who will get their story next.
