it was amazing
bookshelves: death

Grades 1-5? This was a hard book to read because the emotion is so raw. But I think it is a really important book for children who have lost a parent-- addressing their fear that they need to take care of the surviving parent, that they are afraid of forgetting their parent, and some of the strange behaviors (in this case, picking a scab) that pop up as they cope with the loss. There is also beautiful symbolism in this book-- because although his scab heals, he will always carry a scar.
