Cabin 12 (Rock Point, #2)

This author’s writing keeps getting better and better, and that’s saying a lot since I proclaim every book is her best yet.
This story centers on Bella, the EMT sister of Damian from Keeping 6, and Jasper, one of his teammates. Their first meeting was less than stellar and misconceptions were formed. Bella assumes Jasper is a playboy and he, in turn, thinks she’s a spoiled princess. Nothing could be further from the truth.
When Damian and his new bride go away for their honeymoon, he tasks his employee with keeping a watchful eye on his sister. This does not bode well for Jasper as Bella’s independence is of the utmost importance, stemming from being the youngest in an overbearing, yet extremely loving, family.
However, Jasper’s charge is not as challenging as first assumed when the suspense kicks in. In true Freya Barker fashion, you never know what to expect. Insignificant details presented earlier become noteworthy. Those facts twine together. They twist and turn, and help us discover more layers to this wonderful couple as their environment changes.
Ms Barker is not afraid of tackling real-life issues such as harassment and depression. She doesn’t shy away from demonstrating fault with her characters. If anything, this makes them more human and appealing to the reader. The strength they possess to overcome obstacles gives us hope that we too can prevail.
