Finale (Caraval, #3)

Meh.
In this third and final installment of the Caraval series, we find our Fab Four still trying to decide if they are in love or not, still trying to decide who is "good" and who is "bad", and back to solving a bit of a puzzle.
I think this book does a great job at resolving a lot of open ended questions and issues from the first two books, like "why was their Mom a crappy mom?" and "why does Scarlet see things in color?". And for those of you who loved all the sappy, crappy romance from the original Caraval, you will probably love this book because it makes a very big and very constant return.
For me, it fell short. It returned to the original tropes that I didn't like in the first book. I liked the 2nd book best. It felt a bit more grown up and the storyline was a real plot bender. This one had way too much 8th grade romance and "I love you-I hate you" tension that got old very quickly.
Easy, enjoyable teen romance read but not much more than that.
Overall, I enjoyed the magic and creativity but could use more plot and world building.

"The first book in this series is still my favorite. Maybe because the idea was so fresh and the plot twists and creativity of Caraval made my brain short circuit.
I'm not quite done with this one yet, but it feels more teen-romance focussed than plot driven."
