I listened to the audio version and the performance of the reader--and that is the word for it; performance--was simply spectacular. One male reader conjured many characters of many voices of differing genders, races, and ages. I loved the history, and thought the character development which spanned several generations and a completely changed set of natural and cultural circumstances as the world (and Florida, where the book is set) changed from the 19th through 20th centuries. Wonderful book, wonderful audio version.
