ok well damn.
i could go on and on about this book but i’m gonna keep it concise. no spoilers, however it’s my thoughts and opinions at the moment
it’s no secret that JLA can write a very addictive book and it’s also no secret that this series is definitely heavy romance over plot. in fact most of this was hearts and butterflies and that last 30% was action. i’m honestly fine with this but i wish we were introduced to it earlier in the book. it was pretty slow in the beginning and not as fast pace as the previous 2 were. the angst was definitely a bit lack luster since poppy and casteel have made it official. however, it was actually pretty nice to read poppy and casteel just living peacefully for once.
as far as character development, poppy’s was definitely the strongest. she’s honestly the only person i care for in this book. the only person i connected with and im overall happy at the growth that came to her character by the end of this book. JLA knows how to keep the reader engaged and wanting more. so i can’t wait for the next books!
spoilers
-there were a few things however that i didn’t vibe with in this book and that is poppy’s lack of relevant sex education. poppy has been sheltered all her life so it’s expected that she doesn’t know sexual terms or understand sexual remarks. in previous books and in this one, casteel pokes fun at poppy’s not-knowing of sexual remarks or sugar coded sentences he says. for example: the foresome term. i feel like casteel and those around poppy could have safely educated poppy on sex positions, sexual terms, ect. instead of making fun of her for not knowing what it is and leaving her in the dark to guess. poppy’s only form of sex education was miss willa diary. why couldn’t those around her safely educate her on safe sex?
-i really enjoyed how all of the questions and theories we’ve been asking since day 1 have been answered. but now we are just left with another set of questions and theories that need immediate answering
-i appreciated the better understanding of terms and world building that was brought to this book. now it feels like i know everything and i don’t need to rely on the map or a guide.
-miss will was the lady at the red pearl?!? gah damn!
-yes! we finally get to see the characters we’ve been anticipating for but lmao surprise they’re “evil”
-poppy is badass and a fucking GOD! game changer ladies and mistakes!!
-but damn the way this ended....i won’t be able to not think about it for days :)
