Collibra could be easier to work with in some areas—setting up data ingestion and workflows can take more effort than expected, and mapping specs still feel pretty manual. I find the Customer Support is responds in a very timely manner.

I find it is very easy to relate the core offerings of the platform to key business issues and propose Collibra as the tool that can solve these issues and thus generate value through cost savings.

1. Inaccessible Language

- I find some of the language used within the Collibra tool adds a barrier to rolling it out successfully as it doesn't seem particularly intuitive to me.

- I find that the biggest barrier to target consumers on site being satisfied with Collibra is navigation. Countless times I hear employees have entered the tool and it has not been intuitive enough for them to find what they want, thus they leave. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Business Term, Metrics and Reporting Catalog. We can now house this info in one platform vs our previous way of keeping data in Excel, Sharepoint slides, multiple areas. Our business users are pleased with the fact that they can now have one place to search for reports vs asking other business users - was very time consuming. The technical lineage views and diagram views are very confusing for users. It’s hard to view the end to end because of how many nodes there may be.

Scalability. Previously my organisation used stored procedures automatically triggered on a pipeline to analyse the DQ of data entering the data lake. This meant for every new rule we need to write a new stored procedure each time. Now I can create jobs with multiple rules (and use template rules) which is far quicker than before. The tool is quite buggy. I am not an infra expert but it seems every 2-4 weeks I have to engage premium support and my infra department to figure out why jobs are not running. Additionally I find when new releases happen there are often times bug fixed but also bug introduced, especially the most recent 2025.02 release. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Centralized data governance: everything is consolidated in one place, which makes search, documentation, and traceability much easier.

Business glossary: extremely useful to align technical and business teams around a common language.

Customizable workflows: practical for managing validation steps and governance processes.

Integration with other tools (ETL, BI, technical catalogs, etc.): helps build a real ecosystem around data.

Apparent complexity in onboarding: significant improvements have been made with the new interface (the previous one was clearly outdated)

What I appreciate the most about Collibra is how it can enforce data governance policies. With the platform we can define and monitor our data stewardship practices, that helped us enormously in improving data quality across our organization. Also very valuable is the customizable reporting, which provides us with details on how data is being used and if compliance is occurring. Sometimes, Collibra’s customization of workflows can be tricky, specifically when you need to change some process according to your needs. There’s leeways, but not always enough to the level of leeways that we need to get. Furthermore, there is also an awkward amount of manual steps to do when managing large datasets, that don't move too quickly. Collibra centralizes information and provides a structured approval process. It helps ensure that policies are visible to multiple stakeholders and keeps an auditable trail of changes. The idea of having one shared platform for governance is good in theory Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The system is cumbersome and often slows down work instead of streamlining it. Roles and responsibilities are unclear, so too many people are pulled into reviews, which dilutes accountability. Approvals get stuck in bottlenecks, and integration with other systems is inconsistent. Policy reviews feel like box-checking rather than meaningful discussions, and all comments are treated equally—so SMEs don’t have enough weight. Notifications are excessive, which encourages quick clicks instead of thoughtful engagement.
