Between message and mystery

Go Fishboy is an animated short that's tough to pin down to any single genre. The story is truly unique: a sushi chef whose son begins to feel and behave like a fish. I'm not even sure what the film is trying to say. Is it a commentary on children's mental health in today's society? A reflection on the desire for freedom and autonomy in a world where parents often decide their kids' futures? Or is it simply a dark fantasy with no deeper message at all? It's hard to tell - but either way, it's an interesting and memorable film.
