Crooks steal Jean Arthur's jewelry from the jewelers, but it's all right: Charley Chase has them in his personal vault. He's carrying them to give them back to the store, but Miss Arthur recognizes a ring of hers and calls the cops on Charley.
It's a bit more complicated than that, but that's the basic story. Not that it matters particularly, because the point of a Charley Chase comedy, besides a story that makes sense, is the beautifully executed gags. There are two sets of them here: in the first, Charley drops the ring into a vat of soup, and then has to retrieve it from under the nose of the man who bought the last bowl. In the second, he has to palm a card to keep the real crooks occupied... and the audience too. One of Charley rarer and better shorts from his silent MGM period has shown up and it's a beaut!
