The series' Japanese version shortened each episode by a few minutes to make room for TV commercials and the longer Japanese opening credits. Usually one song per episode was removed or shortened, and sometimes further non-essential scenes were also cut. The entire series was also heavily edited to remove any quick flashes or strobe effects, following a controversial
Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl (1997) episode that infamously caused epileptic seizures among viewers, leading to a nation-wide uproar. Another difference from the original version was that most episodes would end on a short preview of the following episode. The exception to this is the second-to-last episode, which lacks this preview because the series finale was not part of the original Japanese broadcast. However it was later released as part of the Ohashi quiz show.
