Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown and Chris Sullivan are revisiting a key scene from their late co-star Ron Cephas Jones that holds a new meaning now that Jones is gone.

On This Was Us, the podcast she co-hosts with her This Is Us co-stars where the three dive back into the world of the Pearsons to relive each episode and all the life lessons that came with it, Moore reflected on a scene where Jones’ character William Hill, the biological father of Brown’s Randall Pearson, is asked about his outlook on life while battling cancer.

“How does it feel to be dying?” he’s asked. Moore reads his answer from the script:

It feels like all these beautiful pieces of life are flying all around me and I’m trying to catch them. The pieces are moving faster now and I can’t catch them all. I can feel them slipping through my fingertips.

This Is Us is the latest long-running TV series to get its own rewatch podcast.

Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, and Chris Sullivan have teamed up to launch That Was Us.

The series, which launches on May 14, will see the trio dive back into the lives of the Pearsons. They will relive the show, which ran between 2016 and 2022, with each other, fellow castmates, surprise guests and fans.

Each episode will dig into the themes of the show including loss, grief, love, blending families, body issues, sibling rivalry, terminal illness, miscarriage, racism, adoption, relationships, and substance abuse.

Moore played Rebecca Pearson, Brown played Randall Pearson and Sullivan played Toby Damon in the series, which also starred Chrissy Metz, Milo Ventimiglia, Ron Cephas Jones and Justin Hartley.

The In Memoriam segment of the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday night paid a moving tribute to several stars and movie industry folk who have died over the last year — but, as ever, social media was quick to point out the more glaring omissions.

During the telecast, the In Memoriam segment featured Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli and his son Matteo performing a moving rendition of “Con te partirò” as pictures of talent who have died flashed on the stage behind them. The segment opened with a tribute to the late Russian political activist Alexei Navalny, who died last month in prison in controversial circumstances.

“You’re not allowed to give up,” Navalny says in a clip from the film Navalny, which won best documentary feature at the 2023 Academy Awards. “If they decide to kill me, it means we are incredibly strong.”

Variety is celebrating the 2024 Oscar nominees who have graced the magazine’s covers, participated in Actors on Actors and Directors on Directors, and spoken on the Awards Circuit podcast this season. The nominations for the 96th Academy Awards were announced Tuesday morning, with “Oppenheimer,” “Poor Things,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Barbie” and “Maestro” among the best picture contenders.

Rob Reiner and Sally Struthers took the stage at the 2023 Emmys to pay tribute to their former colleague Norman Lear, in addition to other notable television figures who passed away since the previous ceremony.

Charlie Puth and The War and Treaty — comprised of Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter — performed the former’s hit 2015 song “See You Again” for the In Memoriam segment. They finished the segment with a rendition of the Friends theme song that coincided with Matthew Perry being featured as the final name in the video tribute.

In keeping with the ceremony’s theme of celebrating television reunions, Reiner and Struthers reminisced about their time together as co-stars on All in the Family, the classic CBS sitcom that debuted in 1971 and ran for nine seasons.

The fourth season of Genius, subtitled Mlx/X, arrives next month on National Geographic. Viewers of the anthology series are being given another look at the season with key art (above) and a newly released trailer.

Starring Kelvin Harrison Jr., Aaron Pierre, Weruche Opia, Jayme Lawson, and Ron Cephas Jones, the series will show how the two civil rights leaders helped shape America during the 1960s. Eight episodes have been produced, and they'll be released in pairs over four weeks.

Oppenheimer may have been unsung for years at the end of his life. But Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” certainly is not — the latest awards show it dominated was the Critics Choice Awards tonight, winning the most prizes of any film, eight total, including Best Picture. It also won Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr., Best Ensemble, Best Cinematography, Best Score, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects, and Best Director for Christopher Nolan. “Barbie” got a whopping 18 nominations at the awards, which aired January 14 from the Barker Hangar at the Santa Monica Airport, with Chelsea Handler as Mc. Sunday’s Critics Choice Awards pretty much stuck to the same script as last week’s Golden Globes, with Netflix’s Beef, Hulu’s The Bear and HBO’s Succession emerging as the big TV winners.

Both Beef and The Bear won four trophies apiece, including Best Limited Series and Best Comedy Series, respectively. Succession, meanwhile, snagged three awards, including Best Drama Series.

Revered civil rights movement leaders Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (played by Kelvin Harrison Jr.) and Malcolm X (Aaron Pierre) come together in the full trailer for Genius: MLK/X, which was released on Thursday.

The above sneak peek depicts a chance meeting between both icons while waiting for a press conference on March 26, 1964. Both men had ventured to Washington D.C. to hear the Senate debate on the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The encounter only lasted a minute, and they never saw each other again.
