New Marvel Knights: Punisher Series Revealed; Will Be Set In Controversial The World To Come Timeline
Image
Last month, veteran comic book creators Joe Quesada and Christopher Priest reunited to kick off a new vision of the Marvel Universe in Marvel Knights: The World to Come.

After introducing a white Black Panther, the series has proven to be pretty divisive as the former Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief and legendary Black Panther scribe put a new spin on this world's future.

The limited series was released under the groundbreaking "Marvel Knights" banner they both helped create in the early 2000s. Introducing a bold future of fallen heroes, global upheaval and torn legacy, the series is epic in scope, leaving readers eager to dive even deeper into its rich worldbuilding.

This October, that opportunity arrives as The World to Come expands in Marvel Knights: Punisher, a spin-off series by writer Jimmy Palmiotti, co-founder of the original Marvel Knights line, and artist extraordinaire Dan Panosian.

Here's the official description for Marvel...

The 15 Worst Things Deadpool Has Ever Done
Image
Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, is one of Marvel's golden geese at the moment. His combination of profane, fourth-wall-breaking jokes and hyper violence has gone a long way in making him a success in comics and film. He's so far the only X-Men character to have a solo trilogy that's solid all the way through, and even if he's not reinventing the wheel, his self-awareness makes him a breath of fresh air, as superhero stories continue to dominate the culture (even if they're at a bit of a low point).

Even if he's funny, Deadpool remains an anti-hero for a reason. He's not above killing his enemies, but we could look past that seeing as how even Steve Rogers has a mighty high kill count. Sometimes, Deadpool takes things a step too far, whether it's in the specific person he decides to kill or a joke that's way too off-color for even our sensibilities.

The Creator of The Sentry Pitched Him to Marvel and DC Multiple Times
Image
At the April 29 afterparty for the Thunderbolts* Hollywood premiere, comic book writer Paul Jenkins heard someone calling his name. When he turned around, he was surprised to see it was director Jake Schreier. Jenkins was flattered, but also confused. Afterall, it was Schreier’s big night. Shouldn’t he be too busy greeting well-wishers to talk to a comic book writer?

But Schreier earnestly wanted to know what Jenkins thought of the movie, in particular, Lewis Pullman’s Bob, better known as The Sentry. Jenkins co-created The Sentry in 2000 and spent time consulting on the movie, which has earned praise for telling a story of mental health struggles through the lens of a comic book feature.

“He was concerned that he’d adhered to something that had meaning,” says Jenkins, who indeed was pleased by both the movie and the character’s depiction.

Sentry’s path to the screen took decades.

Daredevil: Born Again Is Missing Matt Murdock's Most Important Trait
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

This post contains spoilers for "Daredevil: Born Again."

"Daredevil: Born Again" is named for the most famous "Daredevil" comic ever, 1986's "Born Again" by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli. Miller is the writer credited with making Matt Murdock/Daredevil a Catholic, and "Born Again" (running in "Daredevil" #227-233) is the story that canonized that.

The title, "Born Again," evokes Jesus Christ's resurrection. Like Jesus, Matt is betrayed by one of those closest to him — Karen Page sells Daredevil's secret identity for a heroin fix. He finds refuge in a convent, healed back to health by the nun Sister Maggie (who is secretly Matt Murdock's long-lost mother).

Ann Nocenti started writing "Daredevil" shortly after "Born Again" at issue #236, and kept the Catholic themes going. During the X-Men's "Inferno" event, the Goblin Queen literally unleashed Hell on New York City.

"What if dueling soda companies really did hate each other enough to go to war, and what about everyone caught in the crossfire?" Now available from Mad Cave Studios, Pop Kill mixes what you love about 60s spy classics with cola-fueled violence for a story you'll have to read to believe. Ahead of today's release, I caught up with Jimmy Palmiotti and Dave Johnson to talk about their inspirations, spies, their collaboration, and cola:

This is definitely one of the most unique spy stories I've read. Where did this idea come from and how did it become your latest comic book release?

Jimmy: The idea for Pop Kill came from my partner in crime Dave Johnson. It isn't enough that he is one of the greatest cover artists in the business…no, he has to also be an amazing storyteller, and one day he just called me up out of...

A wildly talented Harley Quinn cosplayer has officially won the holiday season with a costume that’s equal parts festive and comic-accurate. Seeing the Gotham City Siren come to life in such stunning detail sets the bar sky-high, and it’s impossible not to want more of DC’s most iconic characters to get the same festive treatment—especially when paired with a set design as jaw-dropping as this one.

This Harley Quinn cosplay embraces a festive aesthetic that looks like it was pulled straight out of Mrs. Claus’ 'naughty closet.'

X user @supervisor039, a talented Russian cosplayer, has taken the art of cosplay to the next level by creating her own show-stopping costumes. While she’s impressed with countless portrayals, one look has truly stolen the spotlight this holiday season: her Santa Claus-inspired Harley Quinn.

Love Creature Commandos? Here's 5 DC Comics You Need to Read Asap
Image
The Creature Commandos have just hit the small screen thanks to their new animated series, but fans of DC’s squad of monster soldiers may not know where to start in looking for more spooky action. DC has a number of comics that would fit the bill, so Screen Rant is here to provide five of the best series to scratch that itch.

The Creature Commandos made their debut in the pages of Weird War Tales, DC’s classic anthology of horror and sci-fi stories set during war-time. Created by J.M. DeMatteis and Pat Broberick, the Creature Commandos were originally a group of monsters recruited by the U.S. military to fight the Nazis in World War II. While one of the more obscure DC properties, the Creature Commandos have gotten their widest exposure yet with the new animated series on Max. As such, there’s a lot of new...

Meet Marvel's Failed 90s Hero Nightcat, As Comic Icon Jim Lee Reveals the Whole Story

Considering that Jim Lee is one of the most successful comic book artists of all time, its rare for him to be involved in a project that flops Yet thats exactly what happened with '90s Marvel hero "Nightcat," the publishers attempt to create their own superhero pop star, which wound up falling flat, in a hilarious bit of behind-the-scenes comic book industry lore.

The Big Bang Theory Cast Met A DC Comics Hero In A Wild Crossover, But It Didn't Go Well
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

As an aerospace engineer with aspirations of becoming an astronaut (a dream he eventually realizes), Simon Helberg's Howard Wolowitz is the resident cad of "The Big Bang Theory." He's totally harmless, but he still deserves the myriad comeuppances he receives when he badly overrates his smooth-talking skills. Whether you were relieved or disappointed when Howard finally established a love connection with Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) depends on how much you could stomach his clumsily boorish antics prior to settling down. The unexpected death of his lovingly overbearing mother, Debbie (Carol Ann Susi), softened most viewers' opinion of Howard, but there were times in later seasons where she was missed –- ditto Howard's romantic misadventures.

For those who couldn't get enough of the single-and-too-eager-to-mingle Howard getting humiliated by women who were either out of his league or fresh out of patience for his antics,...

10 Best Harley Quinn Love Interests (Who Aren't The Joker)
Image
Few characters have reached the mainstream popularity of Harley Quinn. Starting as just a one-off side character in Batman: The Animated Series, she proved to be so popular and eye-catching that she was eventually rolled over into the comic books. Since then, Harley has appeared in tons of stories and interacted with tons of characters, and some have even become love interests.

Everyone knows that Harley Quinn's main love interest has been the Joker for far longer than not. She was introduced as Joker's bench woman and quickly upgraded to his girlfriend, and she stayed that way for several years. Eventually, she ditched the clown and started living her own life, which included spending time with a few new romantic partners. From Batman to Poison Ivy, these are ten romantic love interests Harley Quinn has had besides Joker.

10 Harley Quinn Comic Quotes That Prove She's the DC's Best Anti-Hero
Image
Few comic book characters have experienced as successful of a rebranding as Harley Quinn has had over the past decade. From being the Cupid of Crime to the kingpin of crimefighting, Harley Quinn has had a tremendous rebrand as of late.

Originally not even conceived as a character for the comic books, and a character who DC Comics editors actively did not want in the official comics canon, Harley Quinn has come a long way from being The Joker's lovelorn sidekick. Now, she's essentially become one of the leading faces of the DC brand. While some superheroes still treat her with vitriol (the Justice League still doesn't consider her a real hero), she at the very least has become a full-on anti-hero - and these quotes prove just that.

Harley Quinn Writer Reveals the Secret Deadpool Crossover You Were Never Meant to See
Image
Deadpool meeting Harley Quinn seems like a crossover just begging to happen if current circumstances were different at DC and Marvel. Yet, according to writer Jimmy Palmiotti, there was a secret crossover in the works during his run on Harley Quinn with Amanda Conner, pieces of which still survived in the finished product.

Appearing at the Dragon Con 2024 panel Harley Quinn: In the Spotlight, Palmiotti revealed how the unofficial crossover almost came to be. We were friends with the guys writing Deadpool at Marvel at the time, Palmiotti explains, more than likely referencing Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn, who co-wrote Deadpool from 2012 to 2015.

Palmiotti then detailed how the secret crossover almost came together:

We said, Lets do a crossover without [Marvel and DC] knowing were doing a crossover. So we said, You guys create a character like Harley and put her in Deadpool, well create a character like Deadpool and put him in Harley.

Kevin Smith Quit Writing Daredevil Because Marvel Ruined His Idea (& Only Came Back After Getting Cursed Out)

Kevin Smith made comic book history when he took over writing Daredevil during the Marvel Knights initiative, but the revolutionary story almost didnt happen. Two Controversial Marvel Movies are Part of a Long-Running Mystery
Image
The Marvel Knights imprint was a branch of Marvel Studios that sadly didn't last long and kickstarted a longstanding mystery. While Punisher: War Zone and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance weren't beloved, they showed how Marvel Knights could work. There's hope that Marvel Knights could still return in some way but that may come with its greatest mystery not getting solved.

Marvel Studios has been around a lot longer than the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with founders like Keven Feige having a hand in the universe since 2000's X-Men. As a result, there has been a lot of growth and evolution that includes iconic hits like Iron Man and Spider-Man as well as colossal flops like X-Men Origins: Wolverine and 2003's Daredevil. But with every high and low, there were solid attempts to try something new that went even beyond the movies and television that brought many beloved characters to a wider audience.

Comic Book Movies That Don't Have Sequels

Comic books have inspired countless brilliant movies, with superhero comics having an especially strong impact on modern Hollywood. Through major franchises, such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Extended Universe, some incredibly enjoyable movies have been created. Likewise, even some excellent non-superhero comics have inspired some of the best films ever made, from horror stories to westerns.

Comic book movies are some of the best stories on film, and not all of them even seem like comic book stories. This is in part due to the difference in adaptation, with some movies being rigidly adapted to film, while others only receive a loose adaptation. Many of these movies have been unable to secure sequels, often due to box office flops, critical responses or even because they simply didn't need one.

DC's Best Fighter Has One Major Weakness - Harley Quinn
Image
Warning! Contains spoilers for Birds of Prey #1! A new Birds of Prey team line-up has finally proved that Harley Quinn can take down DC's best hand-to-hand fighter. Characters like Lady Shiva and Batman, two of the greatest martial artists to ever live, have both lost to Cassandra Cain, but DC recently revealed that the one person who might be able to take Cass down is Harley Quinn.

Black Canary has been putting together a new Birds of Prey team to save her sister Sin from a terrible fate in Birds of Prey #1 by Kelly Thompson, Leonardo Romero, Jordie Bellaire, and Clayton Cowles. Along with Canary, the team consists of Zealot, Big Barda, Cassandra Cain, and, in a surprising twist, Harley Quinn. Harley only made it onto the team due to the suggestion of Cass, who told a story about how she once investigated a museum break-in, only to find Harley already conducting her own investigation.

Marvel’s Superman Was Originally A Reboot of 1 DC Hero
Image
The Sentry is often regarded as Marvel Comics’ version of Superman, but according to co-creator Paul Jenkins, the character actually started life as a pitch for another DC Comics hero.

Released in 2000, The Sentry was a Marvel Knights series by Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee that told the story of a powerful superhero who had been forgotten by the rest of the Marvel Universe. Originally presented as a lost creation of Stan Lee from the 1960s, the series garnered controversy upon release, and is widely considered one of the greatest hoaxes in comic book history. Recently, co-creator Paul Jenkins spoke at the 2023 Dragon Con panel “Marvel’s Sentry: A Superhero Identity Crisis,” where the writer revealed that the Sentry originally began life as a pitch at DC Comics for an entirely different hero: Hourman.

Filmmaker and comics writer Kevin Smith is auctioning off his entire collection of original comic art. The school was founded by legendary cartoonist Joe Kubert, and teaches students cartooning and graphic art. The sale of Smith's art collection will help to support the comic artists of the future.

There will be a long road to recovery, so regrettably we must cancel the remainder of his book tour this year,” Cartoon Books production manager Kathleen Glosan shared on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

Comic-Con Averted an Apocalypse Despite Two Strikes (and Little Hollywood)
Image
This was the year that San Diego Comic-Con was supposed to collapse. After all, with Hollywood studios pulling out and stars not able to promote their work, all due to the double whammy of the actors and writers strikes, why would people even bother to attend?

Well, about 150,000 attendees did, indeed, show up. There were no mass hotel cancellations nor mass refunds issued for badges, which were purchased months in advance. And an interesting thing happened on the way to the Comic-Con apocalypse. There was a renewed focus on comics and other graphic arts, even as Hollywood showed up in a diminished capacity.

“This year, more than ever, it felt like the real focus was the talent behind the origins of a lot of their entertainment,” says Jimmy Palmiotti, a writer-artist who has worked for Marvel and DC and created the comic Painkiller Jane, which was adapted into a SyFy series in 2007.

By all accounts,...

Marvel's Most Underrated Hero Is the 1 Person Immune to Captain America's Shield
Image
Captain America's iconic shield, made of vibranium alloy, is a powerful weapon and tool. However, in a surprising turn of events, a little-known hero named Paladin was able to counter its offensive abilities. Paladin, despite being an obscure and overlooked character in Marvel, has proven to be ruthlessly effective and has stood toe-to-toe with some of Marvel's top heroes. He defeated Captain America in single combat by using an intelligent Emf emitter to nullify the shield's attack. Paladin is a mysterious figure with superhuman strength, reflexes on par with Captain America, and extensive espionage training. He is a "hero for hire" who only fights for money. Despite his questionable motives, he has shown genuine honor by leaving a lucrative opportunity to keep a mythical spear out of the wrong hands.

Nothing in Marvel is more representative of the Stars and Stripes than Captain America's trademark shield, but this versatile...

Justice League Heroines Become Harley Quinn's Roller Derby Team in Fanart
Image
Harley Quinn is known for her love of roller derby, and now some heroines from the Justice League have followed her lead. In new fan art from comic artist Francine Delgado, several recognizable ladies are ready to land some hits. This all-star lineup would definitely be victorious.

On Instagram, Francine Delgado shared fan art of Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman, Hawkgirl, Power Girl, Green Lantern Jessica Cruz, and Batgirl, suited up for a roller derby victory. The art is gorgeous, putting roller derby twists on their iconic costumes. They're fitted with helmets, elbow pads, knee pads, and of course, roller skates. Each outfit also has the heroine's actual names across the chest, rather than their codenames, as well as themed helmets that reference their comic iconography.

Harley Quinn Hijacks Superman's Most Iconic Cover in New Homage

A new homage to Action Comics #1 pits Superman against Harley Quinn with hilarious results. Harley is about to "screw up" the DC Universe with a time machine, and this cover proves she's can really wreak some havoc in Dcu history.

This special ratio variant cover for Multiversity: Harley Screws Up the Dcu #3 by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti will be released this May. While the main cover for this issue also features Harley "screwing up" the classic Superman-and-green-car moment, the ratio variant includes all the dressings, including a take on the original Action Comics font and numbering. In both versions of the cover, Superman lifts the green car over his head while the contemporary Harley Quinn peeks her head out the window, calling out "Ha! Joke's on you, Supes! First Look: Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in ‘Joker 2’
Image
The internet has gone Gaga for Harley Quinn in “Joker: Folie à Deux.”

As a last-minute Valentine’s Day gift, writer-director Todd Phillips released the first image of Stefani Germanotta, better known as Lady Gaga, in character as Harleen Quinzel, better known as Harley Quinn. The great DC character will likely play a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum, where she falls in love with “Mr. J.”, Joaquin Phoenix returning to his Oscar-winning role as Arthur Fleck (better known as Joker).

Gaga’s Harley, based on this image, doesn’t have any of the white makeup or domino mask, but has her hair pulled back in a forceful manner and has Quite an extreme puss on her face. She’s staring right into Fleck’s eyes who, in harsh lighting, kinda looks like Robin Williams a little, doesn’t he?

The Biggest Ways Harley Quinn Has Changed Since Her First Appearance
Image
Though it’s been 30 years since her hallowed debut, Harleen Quinzel, also known as current vigilante and former Batman villain Harley Quinn, has seen her fair share of changes. Introduced in 1992 by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini as a throwaway villain on the seminal Batman: The Animated Series (the episode being “Joker’s Favor”), few could’ve guessed that Harley Quinn would go on to become one of the most popular and enduring characters in the entirety of the DC stable. But what are the biggest ways she’s changed?

Though Harley began her career on television as an unnerving if not slightly hapless supervillain, acting as Joker’s girlfriend through a series of ever more crazed cartoonish capers, her character evolved from a relatively one-dimensional basket case into a harrowingly realistic portrait of a woman trapped by abuse and manipulation. Gradually shifting into the main continuity of DC Comics,...

10 Best Daredevil Comics To Read On Marvel Unlimited
Image
Daredevil is in for a second mainstream resurgence since his MCU reintroduction, and the Born Again TV series is poised for a spring 2024 premiere, but the Man Without Fear has enjoyed great success in the source material for decades now. For many longtime comic book fans in general, it's arguable that Daredevil is the most consistently well-written character in the superhero genre.

Frank Miller's seminal and revitalizing run on the hero will be among the first to come to many readers' minds, but Daredevil's subsequent tales have instilled further confidence in fans that he's in good hands. The underrated Ann Nocenti has been a massive contributor to the character's mythos, and Bendis' run is a shout for the most revered.

Comic-Con: Creators’ Contracts and Controlling IP Focus of Zestworld Panel
Image
Click here to read the full article.

“The guy that delivers lunch makes more money on the movie than we do,” said writer and artist Jimmy Palmiotti, summing up the situation of comic book creators signing Hollywood deals that pay them little while corporations rake in billions.

The topic of creators getting a share of what they create was front and center Friday at Comic-Con during a panel titled “The Importance of Comic Creators Owning Their Own IP.”

The topic is very current, as earlier in the week The Hollywood Reporter exposed the very lopsided contracts writers and artists face when seeing the characters they create end up on screen.

“Comics produce some of the biggest franchises, and we’re not seeing creators participating at the level that they should,” said Chris Giliberti, the CEO and co-founder of upstart digital comics platform Zestworld, which hosted the panel.

Headlining the panel were Palmiotti and Amanda Conner,...

Jessica Chastain: “Painkiller Jane”
Development continues on the next live-action adaptation of Event Comics' "Painkiller Jane", starring and produced by actress Jessica Chastain:

Mark Steven Johnson
The Legacy of Marvel’s Ghost Rider Movie
Mark Steven Johnson
On Feb. 16, 2007, Mark Steven Johnson’s Ghost Rider movie hit theaters. Nicolas Cage starred as Johnny Blaze, a motorcycle stuntman powered by the devil to slay the damned in the form of a man with a flaming skull. It was the perfect vehicle for Nicolas Cage, a comic fan known for his often eccentric screen presence. Cage playing a demonic bounty hunter who spits hellfire is one of those things where it feels more like a documentary that only happens to resemble a Marvel Comics character.

It’s a fun movie on its own that hits just the right level of being over-the-top at the appropriate moments. If anything, it’s hurt by the perfect way it sets up fight scenes like video game boss battles, only for the fights to be over within seconds. While Ghost Rider is ultimately a footnote in the superhero movie pantheon, it’s still...
