Exclusive: Tiya Sircar (The Good Place), Anna Diop (Nanny), Graham Phillips (Riverdale) and Georgia King (Vice Principals) have joined the cast of Prime Video and Blumhouse’s Scarpetta in recurring roles.

They join the previously announced Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis, who will both executive produce; Bobby Cannavale, Simon Baker, Rosy McEwen, Jake Cannavale, Ariana DeBose, Sosie Bacon, Amanda Righetti, Janet Montgomery, Stephanie Faracy and Mike Vogel.

Hunter Parrish has joined Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis in “Scarpetta,” an upcoming mystery thriller series from Blumhouse Television that has already been greenlit for two seasons by Amazon Prime Video.

The “Weeds” alum joins an ensemble that also includes Ariana DeBose, Bobby Cannavale, Simon Baker, Rosy McEwen and Jake Cannavale.

The series, an adaptation of Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta novels, hails from Blumhouse and Amazon MGM Studios. Liz Sarnoff will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner.

According to the logline, the show “follows Kay Scarpetta (Kidman), the chief medical examiner, as she returns to Virginia and resumes her former position with complex relationships, both personal and professional – including her sister Dorothy (Curtis), with plenty of grudges and secrets to uncover.”

Parrish will recur as the younger version of Benton Wesley, presumably in flashbacks. Benton is an FBI profiler who strikes up a romance with Kay in the books.

The Hollywood Reporter said Tuesday that Nicole Kidman will receive this year’s prestigious Sherry Lansing Leadership Award during THR’s annual Women in Entertainment breakfast gala, set for Dec. 4 in Los Angeles.

Attended by 600 industry leaders and VIPs, the invite-only gala coincides with the release of The Hollywood Reporter’s highly anticipated Women in Entertainment issue, which highlights the Power 100, a list of the most powerful female executives and talent in entertainment.

Kidman will indeed headline the mystery-thriller as medical examiner Kay Scarpetta, who returns to Virginia, and her former job, amid complex personal and professional relationships — including the one with her sister, Dorothy, to be played by recent Emmy winner Jamie Lee Curtis.

Mega producer Kidman, who recently led Netflix’s “The Perfect Couple” and will return to Hulu’s “Nine Perfect Strangers” for Season 2, has been trying to adapt Patricia Cornwell’s best-selling novel “Scarpetta” for almost two decades. The project has been in development at Amazon for pretty much the whole year. Now picked up, Kidman will now executive produce the series for Prime Video and star alongside co-lead Curtis, who recently won an Emmy for “The Bear.” Kidman will executive produce for Blossom Films, and Curtis will executive produce for Comet Pictures.

Exclusive: Veteran TV executive Jeremy Gold, who has been at Blumhouse Television for eight years, most recently as President of Production, is stepping down. He is transitioning to a production deal with the indie studio for his newly launched Gold Company.

Gold serves as an executive producer on three upcoming series for Amazon, which are tentpoles on Blumhouse TV’s 2024/2025 slate. That includes The Bondsman, starring Kevin Bacon, from creator Grainger David and showrunner Erik Oleson, which is currently in production in Atlanta; The Sticky, starring Margo Martindale, from creators Brian Donovan and Ed Herro and producers Jamie Lee Curtis and Megamix’s Jonathan Levine; as well as Scarpetta, based on Patricia Cornwell’s best-selling book series, which is eying a two-season order, with Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis starring and executive producing and Liz Sarnoff showrunning.

Additionally, Gold is shepherding several projects at Blumhouse TV, with the studio having first-look at his development.

Nominees have been announced for the 76th annual Writers Guild Awards, and Star Trek: Picard squeaked in just under the wire.

In a flipping of the script this season, the WGA Awards will be held on April 14 – more than a month after the Academy Awards.

As always, the Writers Guild of America has different eligibility requirements than the Movie Academy, so some awards-season favorite scripts are missing from today’s nominations.

Writers Guild Of America has announced its feature nominees and the roster includes The Holdovers, May December and Barbie for original screenplay and American Fiction, Oppenheimer and Killers Of The Flower Moon in the adapted category.

Anatomy Of A Fall was ineligible as it was not produced under a WGA contract. Justine Triet’s film, like Maestro, which was not in Wednesday’s announcement, earned an Oscar nod.

Exclusive: Chris McCumber is departing Blumhouse Television after three years as President. The unit’s President of Production, Jeremy Gold, will step into the top role on an interim basis. A search is underway for a new head of the TV group, which is getting downsized, with several people — believed to be fewer than 10 — being laid off today. (Blumhouse’s total headcount in film and TV is almost 100.)

The staff reductions are coming mostly from the TV division’s Creative and Business Affairs departments, sources said. The unscripted group, led by Gretchen Palek, will remain intact, as will Blumhouse’s shared services groups including Production, Casting, Hr, Marketing and Finance.

Bill Hader is opening up about what he thinks is the turning point in Barry Berkman’s life in his HBO series Barry.

Ahead of its series finale on Sunday, Hader had one specific moment that came to mind when he was asked what Barry’s point of no return was in the Emmy-winning show.

“I always felt a big turning point was when Barry killed Chris [his war buddy, an amiable family man who knew too much],” Hader told the Los Angeles Times. “That was kind of the moment.”

For all the shows that “Barry” shares DNA with — crime dramas, black comedies, metaphysical treatises on morality — as the end nears, it’s easiest to see “Barry” as basically a more dangerous version of “The Other Two.” Hollywood satire, over-confident narcissists plummeting to depths of their own digging, relationships shredded in a heartbeat. Add a few extra corpses to the Dubek family’s peaks and valleys and you get something roughly approximating where “Barry” finds itself now: desperation, death, and jokes.

There have been some amazing cameos in the fourth season of HBO's "Barry," including Guillermo Del Toro, "Coda" director Sian Heder, and Fred Armisen, but we almost got a cameo from none other than Jennifer Lawrence. The "Hunger Games" and "Causeway" star would have played herself, much like Heder, and it could have given her a chance to show off both her dramatic and comedic chops. In the end, showrunner and star Bill Hader decided to take the story in a different direction that omitted Lawrence's role, and we got something completely different (and totally terrifying) instead.

Bill Hader is certainly happy that people like “Barry,” but he also wants to be clear: the episodes you see are the product of a lot of refinement. Specifically in Season 4 Episode 6, there was an entire Sally storyline that would have (maybe) involved Jennifer Lawrence that was jettisoned and a scene that was reshot mere weeks before the series premiered.

“When you’re doing this stuff, people can tell you you’re great until they’re blue in the face, but you make a lot of mistakes,” Hader told TheWrap in our episodic breakdown interview for Episode 6. “People watch the show and go, ‘Oh my God it’s so good,’ and it’s like, ‘No, I make a lot of mistakes!’ You need smart people who aren’t afraid to tell you you’ve made a mistake to be like, ‘What are you doing?’”

Those surprised to see Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro in the latest episode of “Barry” may also be surprised to learn the cameo was del Toro’s idea – not that he thought it would actually happen. Creator and star Bill Hader says the “Pan’s Labyrinth” director has always been a fan of the HBO series, and told Hader at the end of Season 3 that he’d love to be in the show.

Bill Hader insists he never had any long range plans for “Barry’s” storylines.

At the Los Angeles premiere of the HBO series’ fourth and final season on Sunday, Hader told Variety when he first began the process of developing and pitching “Barry” seven years ago, he had “no idea where the series was going to end up.”

In fact, he says, Season 4 is “totally different” than his original plans. As the series wrapped, Hader revealed those final days were “very bittersweet,” but everyone was “also so tired, we were exhausted,” he said, laughing.

“Barry’s” fourth season picks up with Barry in prison after killing Janice (Paula Newsome), his mentor Gene Cousineau’s (Henry Winkler) girlfriend, in Season 1. “I had some sense of where we were headed,” said Sarah Goldberg, who plays Sally. “But I was very surprised by all the details on the way there.”

Season three of HBO’s critically acclaimed, Emmy Award-winning Barry ended with Barry Berkman (Bill Hader) under arrest. The teaser trailer for season four confirms that while Barry is, in fact, behind bars, he remains at the heart of the story.

Dropping the teaser trailer, HBO announced an April 16, 2023 premiere date. The network also announced season four will be the show’s final season, which means only eight new episodes remain to wrap up Barry’s story.

Season four’s first two episodes arrive on April 16th, with new episodes premiering on Sundays at 10pm Et/Pt. The series finale will air on May 28th.

Writers had to share the spotlight with independent filmmakers and sound designers last night, but they’ll have it all to themselves tonight when the 75th annual Writers Guild of America awards are officially unveiled.

Kay Scarpetta has added two big Hollywood names to its cast. Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis are set to star in the new series from Amazon Studios. The series is based on the novel by Patricia Cornwell and Liz Sarnoff adapted the material for the small screen.

The series does not have a home yet, but a deal is being worked out to bring the series to Prime Video for two eight-episode seasons, per Deadline.

Aussie Oscar winner Nicole Kidman has landed the plum role of Virginia medical examiner Kay Scarpetta in a TV series adaptation of the popular Patricia Cornwell novels.

Furthermore, our sister site Deadline is reporting, Oscar nominee Jamie Lee Curtis will play Kay’s flighty sister Dorothy (aka the mom of the forensic whiz’s niece Lucy).

Blumhouse has just set two powerhouse actors to lead their upcoming Amazon series “Kay Scarpetta,” with Deadline reporting that Jamie Lee Curtis and Nicole Kidman will star.

The series is based on Patricia Cornwell‘s novel series about forensic pathologist Kay Scarpetta, the role Kidman will be playing. Jamie Lee Curtis is playing her sister Dorothy.

Kidman is executive producing through Blossom Films and Curtis through Comet Pictures. Liz Sarnoff (Barry) is the writer-showrunner for the Blumhouse TV/Amazon series.

Deadline details in their report, “Kidman’s Kay Scarpetta is a brilliant forensic pathologist, inspired by former Virginia Chief Medical Examiner Marcella Farinelli Fierro, who uses forensic technology to solve crimes. Curtis will play Kay’s flighty sister, Dorothy, the mother of Lucy Farinelli who is a recurring character in the book series.”

Patricia Cornwell’s series features 26 books. The first, Postmortem, was published in 1990.

Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis are teaming for an Amazon series based on Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta novels, Variety has confirmed with sources.

Kidman would star as Scarpetta with Curtis playing her sister, Dorothy. Sources say that deals for the show are not yet done, but that it is nearing a two-season order of eight episodes each at the streamer.

Reps for Amazon declined to comment.

Liz Sarnoff will write the series and serve as executive producer and showrunner. Kidman and Per Saari will executive produce via Blossom Films, while Curtis will executive produce via Comet Pictures. Blumhouse Television’s Jason Blum, Chris McCumber and Jeremy Gold also executive produce. Curtis is currently under a first-look deal with Blumhouse.

Cornwell has written over 20 books in the Scarpetta series. Scarpetta starts out as the Chief Medical Examiner for the Commonwealth of Virginia in the books before becoming a private forensic consultant.
