Bruce Springsteen opened up about his marriage, his new Road Diary documentary, and handling songwriting dry spells during the singer and the E Street Band’s Howard Stern Show interview.
On the subject of songwriting — which Springsteen called “pure torture” — the singer revealed he’s endured extended periods of non-productivity. “Writing is really hard, and you’re failing. Ninety percent of the time, you’re writing stuff that’s mediocre or worse,” he told Stern.

As they prepare to embark on their first tour in six years, the E Street Band reflect on the “responsibility” they feel to deliver on the sort of energetic, virtuosic shows they’ve built their reputation on.
“People would expect musicians in their 70s to play that loping thing, which is unfortunate,” drummer Max Weinberg bemoans of a sluggish early rehearsal. “We had to recall some of that manic, out-of-control way we played 50 years ago. Really get back to where we were.”
But Disney+ / Hulu’s Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band is no deluded attempt to deny the passage of time. Directed by Thom Zimny — who over the past quarter-century has worked on countless films and music videos for the Boss, including the 2018 Netflix special Springsteen on Broadway — the documentary is as much a celebration of what’s changed about the group as what hasn’t,...

Bruce Springsteen recently revealed the difficulties of parenting in the face of rock star status. The twenty-time Grammy Award winner, who is currently 75, discussed how he and his wife, Patti Scialfa, 71, kept their kids’ upbringing out of the public eye in an interview with The Times.
Scialfa, who plays in Springsteen’s E Street Band, is also a musician. The rock icon and Scialfa have three children together: Evan, 34, Jessica, 32, and Samuel, 30.
Springsteen’s Explanation About Exposing Their Kids To Fame
Springsteen explained that their kids didn’t grow up constantly exposed to his fame. He recalled moments when, as children, they would hear his music and shout, “Bruce Springsteen!” It was their way of distinguishing between the figure they heard on the radio and the man they knew as their father.
“A lot of times, we just didn’t expose them to it,” Springsteen said. The children only attended...

London got a taste of The Boss on Friday evening.
Bruce Springsteen took to a smaller stage than he is used to in the British capital on Friday evening, discussing the concert documentary Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band during an event organized by Disney+, which will premiere the film with Hulu on Oct. 25.
Following a screening of the doc, a Q&a that featured The Boss, who was welcomed with a standing ovation, long-time friend and band member Stevie Van Zandt and director Thom Zimny, as well as producer and Springsteen manager Jon Landau, provided additional insight. The session was moderated by Scottish radio DJ and TV host Edith Bowman.
“If you get the art right, the music right and the band right, you go out and play every night like it’s your last night on Earth,” Springsteen said about the longevity of the band.

Hollywood star Andrew Garfield seems to be treading a similar path to that of action star Tom Cruise—not in terms of his career, but rather regarding his romantic life. Known for his acclaimed on-screen performances in films like The Amazing Spider-Man, Tick, Tick… Boom! and most recently in We Live in Time, the actor’s love life has taken center stage after a recent breakup with Dr. Kate Tomas.

Just days after Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band delivered an instantly classic set in Asbury Park, New Jersey for the Sea.Hear.Now Festival, the performance has been released as a live album, available on CD and streaming via the live music platform nugs.net.
The set, which take place on September 15th, was a homecoming of sorts for Springsteen and the E Street Band, who first got their start gigging around the Asbury Park area. Among its 30-song setlist were hits like “Dancing in the Dark” and “Born to Run,” plus bust-outs, like the tour premieres of “Blinded by the Light,” “Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street?”, “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy),” and more.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band gave Asbury Park, New Jersey a show to remember with an epic headlining set at Sea.Hear.Now festival on Sunday night.
The show was a homecoming for Springsteen and the band, who got their start playing gigs in and around Asbury Park in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Appropriately, the first half of the Sea.Hear.Now setlist leaned heavily into material from Springsteen’s debut album, Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J., as well as other Jersey-centric songs. Notably, Springsteen performed tracks like “Blinded by the Light,” “Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street?,” “Thundercrack,” and “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)” for the first time in nearly a decade.

Thom Zimny’s “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band” is quite a bit different than his past collaborations with Springsteen. In the past, like with “Western Stars” and “Letter to You,” the focus was on the project at hand. “Road Diary” isn’t about a specific album, it’s a more all-encompassing look at the E Street Band’s origins and how 50-odd years of touring informs Springsteen’s latest tour … and being well-aware he’s in his seventies now and this isn’t going to last forever.
Springsteen’s last tour ended in 2016, in support of his 1980 album “The River,” and it included the release of a set of outtakes and the band playing the double album from start to finish — before eventually moving into one the most spontaneous eras of their concerts in the history of E Street.

You’re used to hearing the sound of “Bruce! Bruuuce! Broooooooooose!” in giant, rock-friendly arenas all over the world. The echo of fans screaming out Bruce Springsteen’s name in the Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto, however, feels weird — the 2,600 capacity venue is pretty intimate compared to most places the E Street band and its leader play. (It’s more than twice as big as the Walter Kerr Theatre, where Bruce did his Broadway show in 2017, and has more seats than the St. James Theatre, where he did a limited encore run in 2021, but still.

Patti Scialfa has revealed that she has been battling multiple myeloma, a rare form of blood cancer, since 2018.
The 71-year-old wife of Bruce Springsteen and longtime member of E Street Band went public with her diagnosis in the new documentary Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.
According to the Mayo Clinic, multiple myeloma is a type of blood cancer that impacts plasma cells, which are type of white blood cell found in the bone marrow. Plasma cells help the body fight infections by producing antibodies. In myeloma, abnormal plasma cells multiply uncontrollably and crowd out normal blood cells, interfering with the production of healthy blood cells and antibodies. This can lead to weakened bones, kidney problems, anemia, and a weakened immune system.

If you needed any proof that Bruce Springsteen is fully recovered from health ailments that derailed his 2023 tour (some of which may or may not have been the result of Larry David), look no further than the performance he and the E Street Band turned in at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California on Thursday night.
The show ran a grand total of three hours and 18 minutes and featured a sprawling 32-song setlist including several tracks that hadn’t been played live in close to a decade. What’s more, Springsteen’s wife, Patti Scialfa, made her first appearance on the 2024 leg of the tour, joining her husband for performances of “Tougher Than the Rest” and “Fire.”

Three hours into Bruce Springsteen’s epic return to Los Angeles on Thursday night with the E Street Band, he stared down the sold-out crowd at the Forum. “Do you have anything left?” he shouted, midway through “Twist and Shout,” the second-to-last song of his first L.A. show in eight years. Five decades in, the magic of a Springsteen show remains: He always seems to have a little bit left in the tank.

[This story contains spoilers from season 12, episode nine of Curb Your Enthusiasm, “Ken/Kendra.”]
Life imitated art again with the latest Curb Your Enthusiasm. Or, if you ask show boss Jeff Schaffer, “life imitated silly art.”
The silly art he is referring to is when Curb‘s Larry David (played by the real Larry David) gave Bruce Springsteen Covid-19, forcing him to cancel his music tour. Springsteen had made a brief cameo earlier in the season in the “Lawn Jockey” episode, where the Boss praised Larry for becoming a liberal hero after he (unknowingly) stood up against a Georgia 2021 voting law that makes it illegal to provide food or water to voters in line at the polls.
“That’s Larry David’s middle name: Larry ‘Involvement’ David,” said Springsteen on CNN when making his first Curb cameo.
Now, in the ninth episode of season 12 — the penultimate episode before the Emmy-winning HBO comedy’s series finale this weekend — Springsteen returns.

Two months after pushing the remainder of his tour to next year due to a medical condition, Bruce Springsteen returned to the concert stage Monday night at New York’s David Geffen Hall as part of the Stand Up For Heroes benefit. He’s played practically every year since the annual event began back in 2007, but he wasn’t on the official bill this year since he originally had a show booked that night in Edmonton, Alberta.

A wacky film based on a stage show by comedians Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp, Dicks: The Musical – a riff on The Parent Trap with two adult men as the starring twins — opens in seven theaters in NY, LA and San Francisco on a crowded specialty weekend as theatrical releases of fall film festival titles accelerates.
Dicks, from A24, developed by Chernin Entertainment, is, according to press notes, a first “adult musical comedy” for both. (It’s Chernin’s second musical after hit The Greatest Showman.) Directed by Larry Charles, it stars the two creators Jackson and Sharp as self-obsessed businessmen who discover they’re long-lost identical twins and come together to plot the reunion of their eccentric divorced parents. They’re joined by an A-list roster of Nathan Lane, Megan Mullally, Bowen Yang and Megan Thee Stallion.

Anne Hathaway’s She Came to Me is one of the independent films that received an interim agreement from SAG-AFTRA, which she thinks is “amazing.”
The actress and producer stopped by The Late Show With Seth Meyers on Thursday to promote the film, which also stars Peter Dinklage and Marisa Tomei. Hathaway began by praising the writer and director, Rebecca Miller, who has been working on the project for almost 10 years.
“She is the most brilliant, talented person,” she told the host. “She’s not just a director and a writer, but she’s also an artist. She’s a painter, and this is, the movie, the screenplay is based on a short story that she wrote and then adapted herself and then transformed.”

When writer-director Rebecca Miller was playing back her latest film “She Came to Me,” she felt it was missing a compelling song. The National’s singer-turned-composer Bryce Dessner was sitting next to her when the thought entered: Bruce Springsteen would be perfect.
Dessner was drawing inspiration from Marisa Tomei’s character Katrina, who he describes as “a muse and this gutsy character. She’s a miraculous, amazing and powerful woman. She just felt like she could be a character from a Springsteen song,” he says.
Miller, who used the Springsteen hit “Dancing in the Dark” in her 2015 film “Maggie’s Plan,” loved the idea of Springsteen writing the end credits song. “It was an absurd idea, but it just came to me,” Dessner tells Variety. “What would normally feel insurmountable to most people is not the thing that occurs to Rebecca first, but she said, ‘Oh, that’s interesting.'”

Tickets for Lucinda Williams’ tour are currently on sale after the singer released her new album Stories from a Rock n Roll Heart.
This comes three years since Williams suffered a stroke and lost the ability to use the left side of her body. Since then, Williams has been in rehab in an attempt to learn how to relearn how to walk and do other basic functions. Not only did she suffer from a serious medical condition, but in 2020 she also experienced her Nashville home being damaged by a tornado and went through the pandemic.
She announced the album back in April on her Instagram, sharing a sneak peek of her new single “New York Comeback” and officially launched it in June. It was a challenging process for the singer to create the album, as she had to invent a new songwriting procedure due to her being unable to play the guitar anymore.

The National’s Bryce Dessner has detailed his new soundtrack for the upcoming absurdist comedy She Came to Me starring Peter Dinklage. Out September 29th via Warner Classics and Unigram, the album features an original song from Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa called “Addicted to Romance.”
According to a press release, She Came to Me director Rebecca Miller said the soundtrack came from an “intimate process” of collaboration with Dessner, who boarded the film during its earliest stages. This was especially important since the album had to incorporate two on-screen operas from the movie. Conducted by André de Ridder, the score features contributions from French pianist Katia Labèque and vocals from Greer Grimsley, Alicia Hall Moran, Isabel Leonard, and Emmett O’Hanlon.

Los Angeles, July 8 (Ians) Legendary American rock musician Bruce Springsteen took the stage at Hyde Park as he celebrated over 32 years of his marriage to Patti Scialfa this year, recently. However, despite their long marriage, the musician’s relationship got off to a rocky start.
Talking about the end of his first marriage in his memoir ‘Born To Run’, Springsteen said that he dealt with the separation “abysmally”.
According to Daily Express, he confessed that as he rose to fame in the early 1980s, he enjoyed years of “merry psychosexual carnage” on the road, but just after his iconic ‘Born to Run tour, the singer settled down.
Springsteen married aspiring actress Julianne Phillips after seven months of dating and although his fans believed that Phillips would adapt to his rockstar life, Springsteen gave a completely different story in his memoir.

It’s a wish-you-had-gills type of humid September day in Nashville, but Lucinda Williams is comfortably out of the soup, sitting at the kitchen table of Ray Kennedy’s Room & Board Studio telling tales about life on the road to a gang of touring lifers including Tommy Stinson and Jesse Malin. But in person, hearing them delivered in Williams’ syrupy Southern drawl, they’re especially captivating.

Michelle Obama was born to sing! The former First Lady indulged the crowd Friday night at a Bruce Springsteen concert in Barcelona when she hit the stage and performed like a true pro.
According to video circulating on social media, Michelle and actress Kate Capshaw (who is married to Steven Spielberg) joined Bruce’s wife, Patti Scialfa, onstage at Olympic Stadium and performed the backup vocals to “Glory Days”. In the video, Michelle and Kate are smiling and having a blast while keeping a steady beat with hand tambourines.
While the trio was on one side of the stage, Springsteen could be seen jamming out on his guitar and singing alongside Steven Van Zandt. No word on where former President Barack Obama and Spielberg were seated during their spouses’ surprise performance, but no doubt they were somewhere nearby.

Bruce Springsteen welcomed an unexpected guest to the stage during his show in Barcelona, Spain on Friday night: former first lady Michelle Obama sat in with Springsteen and the E Street Band as they performed “Glory Days.”
Obama sang and played a tambourine to the Born in the U.S.A. classic, alongside Springsteen’s wife and E Street Band member, Patti Scialfa, and actress Kate Capshaw.
The night prior to the concert, Springsteen, Scialfa, Capshaw, and Capshaw’s husband, director Steven Spielberg, dined with the Obamas at a restaurant in Barcelona.
Springsteen and Obamas’ relationship extends back to 2008, when Barack Obama first ran for president. Springsteen played several of Obama’s early campaign rallies and inauguration, and hit the road for him again during his 2012 reelection campaign. He even wrote Obama’s campaign theme song. Later, near the end of his presidency, President Obama awarded Springsteen with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
