Few franchises have gone as far off the rails as the Howling franchise did, and it did so very quickly, going to one of the best werewolf movies ever made with director Joe Dante’s The Howling to director Philippe Mora’s oddball follow-up Howling II: Your Sister Is a Werewolf. Still, Howling II does have it charms and its fans, so Vinegar Syndrome have given the film a 4K release – and they’ve brought it to 4K with a ton of bonus features! Copies are available to order on the Vinegar Syndrome website and go for the price of $37.99.
Directed by Philippe Mora from a screenplay by Robert Sarno and Gary Brandner, Howling II has the following synopsis: Ben is mourning the recent death of his sister, Karen, whom he believes to have been killed in a savage wolf attack. At her funeral, Ben is approached by the mysterious Stefan,...

Reagan is a sweeping new biopic that tells the story of the late President Ronald Reagan in its entirety. Set to be released in U.S. theaters on August 30, it stars Dennis Quaid, Penelope Ann Miller, Robert Davi, Lesley-Anne Down, and Jon Voight.
Earlier this month, we got to sit down for a second time with Voight (you can check out our previous interview here) to learn how he approached the role of Viktor Petrovich Ivanov, a former Kgb agent who plays a major role in this new biopic.
During our conversation, the legendary Hollywood star broke down his approach to playing the real-life figure, sharing some fascinating insights into how he physically transformed into the Russian.
We also hear from Voight on the challenges of bringing Reagan to the big screen, including the difficulties presented by shooting the movie when the Covid-19 pandemic regularly forced productions to shut down.

Stunt casting can always be really hit or miss — sometimes audiences are excited to see a fun guest star in a surprising role, and sometimes the gimmick ends up feeling, well, gimmicky. Even when it works, like Marlon Brando playing Jor-El in Richard Donner's "Superman," it's frequently a major headache for folks behind-the-scenes. After all, stunt casting involves bringing an actor or star not used to a certain genre or medium into that arena, and actors used to art films and dramas might have a hard time adjusting to the very different requirements of science fiction, fantasy, and horror movies. This goes double for major franchises, where the actor has to contend not only with the unique challenges of a new genre but also the expectations of the fandoms. Since there are few fandoms as intense in their love or as scrutinizing as "Star Trek," stunt casting has to be done very,...

“The feeling was one of intense responsibility to represent these four icons and do them justice,” admits head of makeup and prosthetic designer Scott Wheeler about his work on “One Night in Miami” alongside his team including key makeup artist Sabrina Cruz Castro, hair department head Nakoya Yancy and key hair designer Barber Wayne Jolla, Jr.
“This was a universal feeling from Regina on down. I’m not going to use the word we used, but we were saying ‘we better not screw this up!’,” he smiles. “There was a lot of pressure in recreating these four amazing human beings.” Watch our exclusive video interview with Wheeler above.

Makeup head and prosthetics designer Scott Wheeler put four distinct transformations into Regina King’s “One Night in Miami.”
Wheeler, who is on the Academy shortlist for makeup and hairstyling, was tasked with re-creating four icons for the film: Cassius Clay, played by Eli Goree; Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge); Malcolm X, played by Kingsley Ben-Adir and Sam Cooke, played by Leslie Odom Jr.
Wheeler and his team had four actors with different preferences about makeup and hair.
Neither Ben-Adir and Goree wanted prosthetics, while Hodge and Odom Jr. did. The key was not to betray audience’s expectations about what these men looked like.
Wheeler’s team was made up of Key Makeup Artist Sabrina Cruz Castro, Hair Department Head Nakoya Yancy and Key Hair/Barber Wayne Jolla, Jr.
Below, Wheeler shares images on how he recreated the looks.

“Bombshell,” the zeitgeist-grabbing Fox News drama, and “Rocketman,” the Elton John musical fantasy biopic, led the seventh annual Makeup Artists and Hair Stylists Guild award nominations with three apiece. “Bombshell” took contemporary makeup, special makeup effects, and contemporary hairstyling. “Rocketman,” by contrast, took period honors for makeup and hairstyling along with special makeup effects.
Meanwhile, Best Picture Oscar contenders “Joker”(period makeup and contemporary hairstyling) and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” (period makeup and period hairstyling) nabbed two nominations apiece along with “Dolemite Is My Name” (period makeup and period hairstyling), “Downton Abbey” (period makeup and period hairstyling), “Hustlers” (contemporary makeup and contemporary hairstyling), and “John Wick: Parabellum” (contemporary makeup and contemporary hairstyling). 2020 Makeup Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards nominations: ‘Bombshell,’ ‘Rocketman,’ ‘Joker’ lead
The Makeup Artists & Hair Stylists Guild got a jump on the Oscars by announcing its nominations on November 11. That is two months earlier than last year, when the slate was revealed midway through Oscar nominations voting. This year, the guild is out of the gate five weeks before the academy unveils the shortlist in nine categories, including Best Makeup and Hairstyling. These awards will be handed out on January 11, which is after Oscar voting but before the nominations are announced.
Two films — “Bombshell” and “Rocketman” — reaped three bids apiece with the Muahs guild. Both contend for special makeup effects. The former figures in both contemporary makeup and hair styling while the latter does likewise on the period/character side.
Six films are two-time nominees: “Dolemite Is My Name,” “Downton Abbey,” “Hustlers,” “John Wick: Parabellum,” “Joker” and “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood.”

The billing is more than a little misleading. “Universal Soldier” cohorts Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren may be listed in the credits (and promoted in the advertising art) as co-stars of “Black Water,” but it’s up to Van Damme to do most of the damage in this routine VOD-centric action thriller set aboard a submarine employed as a CIA black site. Throughout most of the movie’s perceptibly padded running time, Lundgren’s character is incarcerated in a dank prison cell on the sub — next door to the one in which Van Damme’s character fleetingly cools his heels — where we periodically see him reading, exercising, meditating, and generally looking very Zen. To call this a cameo role would be overly generous. Truth to tell, Lundgren enjoys a greater percentage of screen time, and engages in slightly more rough stuff, in the punchy music video for Imagine Dragons’ “Believer.

"We've eaten them for years, now it's their turn!" Level 33 Entertainment has dropped a trailer for a goofy new horror comedy film titled Attack of the Killer Donuts, which is indeed about donuts that become bloody thirsty killers. They've thought of everything, haven't they? Maybe this is the perfect trailer to watch the day after Halloween, although it'll probably give you the munchies for donuts (just make sure the ones you buy aren't bloody thirsty killers). Attack of the Killer Donuts stars Justin Ray, Kayla Compton, Ben Heyman, Kassandra Voyagis, Michael Swan, and Aaron Groben. On one hand, it's kind of cool that something this wacky still exists (with its own theme song?!). On the other, this looks as awful as it sounds. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Scott Wheeler's Attack of the Killer Donuts, from YouTube: A chemical accident turns ordinary donuts into blood thirsty killers.

With the release of the next Godzilla blockbuster less than a month away, it’s time to start whetting our appetites for giant monster movies. Aside from our well-worn DVDs of Pacific Rim, what’s out there? We’re glad you asked. How about a swim with Poseidon Rex?
We sat down with veteran director Mark Lester – best known for his 80s action flicks – to find five fun reasons to check out P-Rex.
1. Criminals Are People Too
Although the character Brian Krause plays in Poseidon Rex is a smuggler and a thief, he’s got a softer side. “I hired Brian to act in the film, having known him from his work on ‘Charmed’,” said Lester. “I thought he was perfect for a criminal with a nice side so he could be the hero of the film also.”
2. Godzilla Hates Thugs
It’s fun watching giant dinos munch on puny drug lords.

Best known for directing Commando and Firestarter, Mark tells us about his fascination with creature features, developing Poseidon Rex, and what he’s working on next:
Having been involved in creature features previously, what made you want to take on Poseidon Rex as your next film?
Mark L. Lester: I loved the idea of doing a sea creature movie and always wanted to make one, since I saw Beast of 20,000 Fathoms, as a little kid. That picture really haunted me.
Did you have any input in the story or was the script put together before you came on board?

Thanks to Fangoria, we now have the trailer for "Avalanche Sharks," which continues the obsessions of making ridiculous shark movies. This one happens to be a sequel to "Sand Sharks" that was released recently and had sharks attacking people in sand. Check out the trailer for "Avalanche Sharks" below. Plot: After a massive avalanche, the staff of Twin Pines Ski Resort begin to receive reports of missing people and creatures that move beneath the snow. As the body count slowly begins to pile up, the management tries to cover up the situation, which eventually leads to disaster on their busiest day of the year: Bikini Snow Day. Proving nowhere is safe from the clutches of the Great White – not the ocean, nor air, nor land, and now not even mountainside – is Avalanche Sharks. For now, because God is a cruel and unpredictable force, he has given our greatest enemy the ability to appear out of water, without warning to swim through the snow and rain chaos down upon our snowboarding trips. If a normal avalanche wasn’t enough, the staff at this ski resort is receiving reports of missing persons (and blooood) that they keep trying to cover up to save face for their busiest day of the year. You have to guess what that is. It’s Bikini Snow Day, obviously. With the mountainside covered in drunk, horny co-eds, the ancient snow sharks have awakened their taste for human flesh, and now must feast. Cue an hour and a half of frantic, bikini-clad sprinting through the snow as it gets sprayed with blood...

Sharks are having the best decade ever. Although Steven Spielberg made you want to stay out of the water, a whole new generation of filmmakers is interested in making you afraid of sand, Malibu, and, now, ski resorts. It seems like the next logical step in the subgenre’s progression if you ask me. After all, someone is already stuck them in a tornado, so why not have them flopping around inside an avalanche? It’s all about moving forward. “Transmorphers” director Scott Wheeler and “Malibu Shark Attack” writer Keith Shaw are hoping you’re ready for “Avalanche Sharks,” a film which finds these massive oceanic killers attacking scantily-clad individuals at a ski resort during Bikini Snow Day.
