Rupert Grint joined the Harry Potter franchise when he was just 11 and went on to play the character of Ron Weasley until he was 22. The franchise was a lucrative deal for the actor with its huge payouts. He continued to receive residuals from TV and DVD sales even after the franchise ended. However, he has currently landed in hot water for a tax mishap that happened right after his Harry Potter days.

Grint’s $2.3 million tax bill should come as no surprise when you consider the tax debts of actors like Wesley Snipes and Chris Tucker. Snipes spent 28 months in federal prison for tax evasion charges, while Tucker owed the IRS nearly $12 million in tax debt.

In his stint as a judge on Shark Tank, billionaire Mark Cuban has made several deals that have gone to bring in great revenues for him. From Nuts ‘N Things to Ten Thirty Productions, the venture capitalist surely knows how to strike a great business. But more than this, he is always looking out for a good presentation as well as how much confidence the entrepreneurs have in their businesses.

He did the same when a company named Coffee Meets Bagel, founded by three sisters, came on the show. While all the judges were impressed by what they had to offer, their business model just didn’t make any sense as the company was actually losing money.
One by one, each of them backed out from investing except Mark Cuban, who offered the sister’s a huge sum of money to buy their business.

While Martin Lawrence became a huge star with films like Bad Boys and shows like What’s Happening Now!!, it was the sitcom Martin that made him a household name. The TV show centered on the eponymous DJ, who worked in a radio station, and the shenanigans that happened to him. His girlfriend, and later wife, was played by Tisha Campbell.
Campbell reportedly left the series in the final season, after suing both Lawrence and the producers. The charges on Lawrence allegedly included s*xual harassment and intolerable working conditions. Though she returned for the series finale in season 5, Campbell reportedly had a clause that forbade Lawrence from coming to his set.

The team is flying to the Big Easy on Tuesday to scout the Superdome as they plan next February’s Super Bowl Lix halftime show, starring Kendrick Lamar.
“It’s our first time with the artist team,” notes Jesse Collins Entertainment prexy Dionne Harmon. “We’ve actually been a few times already in preparation, but since the announcement, it’s the first time Kendrick’s team and us will all come together.”
Adds Jeannae Rouzan-Clay, Jesse Collins Entertainment’s senior VP of specials, “There’s always something going on!” And she’s not wrong: Also on Monday, BET just announced that its annual BET Hip Hop Awards — which Collins, Harmon and Rouzan-Clay also exec produce — is making a big...

One of the most anticipated releases of the fall movie season (that in no way involves renovating a dilapidated Mexican restaurant) is Francis Ford Coppola’s self-financed $120 million epic Megalopolis.
The reviews so far have been largely mixed, and in some cases, downright cruel, which is what seemingly prompted the film’s marketing team to craft an ad campaign hinging on the premise that critics are frequently wrong about Coppola’s work — a strategy that promptly backfired once it was revealed that the catty quotes about films like The Godfather and Apocalypse Now were A.I.-generated fakes.
The film just made its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and, having seen it, I can honestly say, it’s a lot.
Basically, Megalopolis tells the story of a future where everyone in New York acts like it’s Ancient Rome, but also the 1940s. An architect named...

There is little argument over Michael Jackson’s status as the King of Pop, with the music icon becoming a global superstar during his career. Although Jackson achieved the heights of popularity few other artists in the music industry have seen, his personal life was always in the spotlight for different reasons, especially due to his relationship with his family.
Michael Jackson made serious allegations against his father Joe Jackson.
In a series of taped conversations with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, Jackson opened up about his relationship with his father, Joe Jackson, who had served as the manager of Jackson 5 and pushed his children to pursue a music career. In the interview, Jackson accused his father of being physically and emotionally abusive towards his children. He said (via Today.com).

Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, was a national treasure and a legend in the world of music – until the allegations surfaced against the singer, sinking his reputation along with the decades of work he put into honing his talent. Through the veil of celebrity worship and the near-mythical status he attained, the Grammy winner then faced a reality that was a nightmare reincarnated.

As the years rolled by, the singer faded from the frontlines of popular culture, and his music was replaced by new pop icons like Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, and The Weeknd. However, the allegations remained the talk of the town, following him around, snapping at his heels, even after his highly controversial, tragic, and untimely death three weeks before Jackson was set to make a career comeback.

Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker may well return for Rush Hour 4 – but director Brett Ratner appears to be the stumbling block.
It seems as though since around 2016, the Rush Hour trilogy of movies – starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker – have been billed as Brett Ratner’s Rush Hour trilogy. Take a look at the US Blu-ray box art for proof of that.
On and off since the release of the pretty crappy Rush Hour 3 in 2007, there’s been talk of a Rush Hour 4, with occasional, sporadic interviews suggesting that Brett Ratner, Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker have all been keen.
The significant issue has been the serious sexual allegations that have been aimed at Brett Ratner. We’re going to cede to the Wikipedia list, given there are numerous accusations against Ratner, that you can read about here.

Nearly two decades after the last installment in the franchise, a new Rush Hour movie is reportedly still in development and hunting for a studio.
The franchise, which stars Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, was a raging success after launching in the late ’90s. However, the most recent movie was released back in 2007.
Since then, there have been whispers of a continuation. However, the franchise’s fate was called into question after director Bratt Ratner was accused of sexual harassment in 2017.
A new report revealed that there has been some movement on the project.

According to reporting by The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate met to discuss picking up the fourth movie last month.
It is unclear if Brett would be involved in the project. However, a source said that he was being presented as a possible director. This would make for one of his first projects since the scandal broke.

The Rush Hour trilogy has been seen as one of the late 90s/early 2000s best buddy cop comedies with martial arts icon Jackie Chan pairing his brand of action and humor with Chris Tucker’s own brand of fast-talking comedy. The 1998 original successfully crossed Chan over into American productions, while catapulting Chris Tucker to superstardom and made Brett Ratner Hollywood’s new hotshot director. Last year, Tucker has talked about the potential of Rush Hour 4 finally manifesting when he said, “You’re going to see a lot of good stuff coming, but it’s going to be on a whole other level. That’s what I like… I’m excited about that. In July, Lionsgate executives gathered for a routine greenlight meeting. On the agenda, however, was not a typical project. The studio was looking at Rush Hour 4, the long-talked-about next installment in the action comedy franchise. In different times, it might seem like an attractive idea for Lionsgate — which has an interest in building franchises to complement its John Wick series — or any studio looking to capitalize on audience nostalgia with well-known IP.

Exclusive: Rob Minkoff (The Lion King) is set to direct Tenor by Night, a live-action comedy musical fantasy based on the Chinese-themed stage musical of the same name, created and produced by James Chiao.
Written by Peter Barsocchini (High School Musical franchise), the film is described as a whimsical, cross-cultural comedy about a Chinese American businessman who gives up his dreams of becoming a world-famous singer to build a successful mannequin business to support his family. Through a series of magical misadventures, a group of mannequins are brought to life which leads to a second chance to fulfill his dreams.
The project is believed to be the first Chinese-themed musical coming up for production in Hollywood since Flower Drum Song in 1961. Hope is for it to draft on the success of such recent Chinese American-themed box office hits as Everything Everywhere All at Once and Crazy Rich Asians. Casting for the pic is now underway.

Django Unchained was a huge hit with audiences, having won Oscars in two categories, including Best Director. There were many positive reviews at the time of its release, and one of Leonardo DiCaprio’s most iconic scenes, which people still talk about it, comes from this very production.
Will Smith in The Pursuit of Happyness (Sony Pictures)
However, the lead role wasn’t originally meant for Jamie Foxx. In fact, Tarantino had offered it to another very famous actor within the Hollywood industry, who only turned it down for some personal reasons. Little did he know that the movie was bound for success. Does he regret his decision?

In 2012, Quentin Tarantino released another film. With his solid reputation in the industry, people were excited about his new project, especially curious about who would be leading the story.

Can you imagine the iconic bustle of Rush Hour without the rapid-fire banter of Chris Tucker filling the air? It’s like trying to picture New York City without the Statue of Liberty or a circus minus the clowns—nigh impossible!
Chan’s high-flying kicks, coupled with Tucker’s side-splitting gags, turned the clock to fun o’clock, starting in 1998 with the box office juggernaut Rush Hour. The duo, with their knack for fighting crime as well as firing quips, kept viewers in stitches, spawning a trilogy that kept the laughs coming.

For those of us who have been here for a decade or two, it’s remarkable to consider both how much and how little the city of Los Angeles has changed over the years. There are still plenty of the old landmarks—the Hollywood Sign, Pink’s Hot Dogs, that dude who rollerblades around is white robes and plays guitar on the Venice boardwalk—while other, seemingly indestructible, institutions have tragically bitten the dust.
So! With local issues perpetually at the forefront of our mind this week, here now are ten films that remind us of life in Los Angeles during a very particular and only recently bygone era: the ’90s and early 2000s. These films are honest portrayals of what livin’ la vida loca LA-style is all about, whether they’re a glimpse into the lifestyles of the rich and famous, the realities of showbiz or struggles within SoCal’s toughest ‘hoods.

Eddie Murphy is getting candid about how the major celebrities who came before him and died young have served as a guide for his life.
The iconic comedian-actor sat down with The New York Times for an episode of its podcast The Interview, where he talked about everything from not wanting to do drugs to his feud with David Spade, which is now behind them.
During the conversation, host David Marchese pointed out that there was a time period when Murphy was on the same level of fame as Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and Prince, but they all died pretty young and from drug use in one form or another. When asked if he understood the pitfalls that came with that level of fame, the Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F star and producer shared that he did.
“Those guys are all cautionary tales for me,” he said. “I don’t drink.

Actor, producer, platinum-selling recording artist and Grammy Lifetime Achievement award-winner Ice Cube has been pushing to get a fourth chapter in his beloved comedy franchise “Friday” off the ground for years. In a recent conversation with hip-hop legend and timepiece advocate Flavor Flav on the “Flavor of the Week” SiriusXM show, he shared hopes that audiences may get a chance to revisit the storyline.
“We finally got some traction with Warner Bros,” Cube said. “They have new leadership, my man Mike DeLuca, who used to be at New Line when I first started, when I first did the first ‘Friday’ and ‘Players Club’ and ‘All About the Benjamins’. Mike DeLuca was there. So, now he’s running Warner Bros. And him and my man [agent] Michael Gruber was like, ‘Yo, what the f–k is going on with ‘Friday’? Man, let’s get this sh– back online.”

It may be Monday, but there’s some hopeful news for fans of Friday — Ice Cube‘s popular comedy series that put Chris Tucker on the map with the original, as well as Mike Epps in its two sequels. The long-awaited fourth entry in the series, slated to be called Last Friday, was held up for a long time due to Warner Bros.’ control over the rights. Back in 2022, Cube explained, “I don’t know. Warner Bros. is weird right now. I don’t know what they’re doing. They don’t know what they’re doing. We’d love to have it back. I think it’s going be close to a time when we get it back. So, we’ll either wait for that time, or we’ll keep trying to convince them that they need to let us control the movie. It’s my movie, but they have distribution control.

48 Hrs. Lethal Weapon. Hot Fuzz. The best buddy cop comedies adhere to a simple formula. One guy is straight-laced, by the book, and really good at his job. The other is a loose cannon, a wild card who pushes the boundaries and gets most of the attention.
Rush Hour is no exception, pairing serious Hong Kong inspector Lee with a motormouth LAPD detective named Carter. Chris Tucker fits the bill for the latter role, coming off of big performances in Friday and The Fifth Element. But for the serious partner, they cast Jackie Chan, perhaps the greatest physical comedian since Buster Keaton. And they completely wasted him.

Ice Cube has been trying to get a fourth film in his Friday series of comedies made for years. Last Friday is now in the works at Warner Bros, he says.
Rapper, actor and screenwriter Ice Cube has spent years trying to get a fourth film in his Friday series of slacker comedies made, and it’s possible his persistence is finally going to be rewarded. The sequel, possibly called Last Friday, is now in the works at Warner Bros, he says.
Ice Cube had originally talked about getting Last Friday made at production company New Line in 2011 – the studio that backed the first three films in the series – before the project moved over to Warner. A change of management at the latter studio is seemingly behind Last Friday’s sudden movement; Mike De Luca, the producer who was at New Line during the making of Friday, is now the...

Jackie Chan taking the mic and performing a rendition of Elvis Presley’s hit song Can’t Help Falling in Love was something the studio audiences of Howie Mandel never imagined. Most interestingly, he didn’t fumble words while singing as he did with his lines in the English language films. Even years after this soulful rendition, fans keep discovering Chan’s secret talent.

Actor and rapper Ice Cube went in a fresh direction with his third Friday movie, After Next. It was the first holiday-themed Friday film, which was an inspired decision on Ice Cube’s part.
When Ice Cube decided ‘Friday After Next’ should be holiday themed Ice Cube | Maury Phillips/Getty Images
The Friday franchise was a more lighthearted departure from the usual ‘hood’ movies Ice Cube was familiar with. In an interview with CNN, he shared that one of his main motivations for penning Friday was to offer a different perspective on his roots.
“I knew things were bad in my neighborhood, but I didn’t feel like these movies feel at the end … When I was growing up, I didn’t feel this depressed,” he said.
Friday After Next would continue the humor that the franchise was mostly known for. But unlike the other two Friday features, the second sequel would revolve around Christmas.

There's an entire generation of movie lovers who first encountered Jackie Chan in the "Rush Hour" films. The actor, director and stuntsman didn't have a huge love for the franchise at the time, perhaps because they barely scratched the surface of what he was capable of as a choreographer. Still, his buddy cop films hold a special place in the hearts of countless action fans, and his rapport with co-star Chris Tucker isn't half bad, either.
The "Rush Hour" trilogy hasn't aged the best in the intervening years, thanks in part to its director, Brett Ratner, who was accused of sexual misconduct in 2017. The film's "East meets West" humor would also never fly today, making the franchise something of a time capsule for irreverent, 2000s humor. Still, we could never get enough of Chan and Tucker — that's why we're all still holding out for that potential "Rush Hour 4." While...

A decade before Knight and Day was released, a movie like it would have killed with audiences: Come on, it starred Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz and looked to perfectly mash humor and action in a way that so few male/female-led action-comedies had for years. Yet, it didn’t connect. But why? There are a lot of reasons, really, and not just, as Roy Miller would say, “one of those things.” Through lousy marketing, hokey promotion, poorly timed sneak previews, and even Katie Holmes, Knight and Day fizzled, less “beautiful dress” than beautiful mess…But it did at least inspire a Bollywood remake, so suck on that, Vanilla Sky! Let’s find out: What Happened to this Movie?!

Comedian Kevin Hart has addressed the extensive criticism directed at him by fellow comedian Katt Williams, which included allegations that Hart secured all the movie roles Williams had pursued.

The African American Film Critics Association, representing the largest group of Black film critics globally, said Friday it has partnered with Delta Air Lines to curate a collection of films that celebrate Black History Month.
This in-flight collaboration marks a first for Aafca and promises to bring diverse stories representing the Black cinema experience to Delta customers during the month of February.
The films featured in this collection have been selected by Aafca members, working closely with Delta’s In-flight Entertainment team and Bold, Delta’s Black Community Business Resource Group, to encompass a range of genres and narratives that showcase the richness and depth of Black-themed stories in film.

The Dream Team is back! Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are teaming up again for Animals, a kidnapping thriller for Netflix. Affleck will direct Animals from a script written by Connor McIntyre with revisions by Billy Ray. In addition to his directorial duties, Affleck will produce alongside Damon, Dani Bernfeld of Artists Equity, Brad Weston, and Collin Creighton of MakeReady, who set the project up with Fifth Season.
Plot details remain a mystery, though we know it focuses on a kidnapping. Michael Joe of Artists Equity and Kevin Halloran executive produce with Fifth Season.
Last year, Affleck and Damon delighted audiences with Air, a sports drama following the history of sports marketing executive Sonny Vaccaro and how he led Nike in its pursuit of the greatest athlete in the history of basketball, Michael Jordan. The emotionally charged film performed like gangbusters for Amazon and banked $90 million at the global box office.
