Chuck Lorre’s Two and a Half Men went through some unexpected casting shifts throughout its run. However, long before the show faced the controversial exits of two of its leading stars, Lorre recast the role of the self-absorbed, materialistic, and rude matriarch of the Harper family, Evelyn Harper.

The character was initially portrayed by the Emmy-winning actress Blythe Danner in the unaired pilot of the show. However, Lorre later revealed she was recast because he did not find Danner to be a good fit for the role.

Since 1975 nearly a thousand hosts have graced the stage at Studio 8H at Rockefeller Center for “Saturday Night Live.”
Actors, comedians, musicians and even politicians have taken the stage to make America laugh on Saturday night for 50 seasons. Twenty five of these hosts have been inducted into the “Five Timers Club.” The club was first introduced during Tom Hanks’ 1990 monologue, featuring Steve Martin, Elliott Gould and Paul Simon.
During Martin Short’s December 2024 appearance, several Five Timers Club members popped up on the show to welcome him into the club, including Emma Stone, Tina Fey, Paul Rudd, Kristen Wiig and more, to give him the ceremonial robe.
Alec Baldwin has hosted the show 17 times, the most in the series’ history, with Martin, Hanks, Buck Henry and John Goodman following close behind.

It’s taken Ben Stiller 35 years to return in a lead role for TV, but the multihyphenate filmmaker is officially back on the small screen.
Stiller, who infamously left “Saturday Night Live” after only a few episodes to create his own 1990 sketch series “The Ben Stiller Show,” is set to lead HBO series “The Band,” which is currently in development at the network, an individual with knowledge told IndieWire. This will be Stiller’s first lead role in a narrative scripted series, though he previously had cameos in “Arrested Development” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
Of course, Stiller has more recently been a TV staple behind the scenes: the writer/director/producer is the executive producer and director of “Severance.” He also helmed true crime series “Escape from Dannemora.”
“The Band” is the latest project produced by Stiller’s Red Hour Films. The series is co-created by “Search Party” filmmakers Sarah Violet Bliss...

The Harvey Weinstein episode has been a dark age in Hollywood’s eccentric and colorful history. Throughout the megaproducer’s scandalous career, he has preyed on actresses, starting from Gwyneth Paltrow to Angelina Jolie. The lawsuit that unceremoniously ended his career finally landed him in prison in February 2020.

However, trauma often lingers even after much time has passed. Despite shredding the hopes and dreams of many young and wide-eyed debutantes in the field, Weinstein’s actions remained unheard of and unspoken among friends and family.
Now, in the post-Me Too era, actresses have been more confident about voicing their own stories regarding their one fateful encounter with Harvey Weinstein.

Ben Stiller is still thinking about an opinion piece from more than 20 years ago.
The “Severance” director said during The New York Times’ “The Interview” podcast that after starring in 1996’s “The Cable Guy,” 1999’s “There’s Something About Mary,” and 2000’s “Meet the Parents,” the Los Angeles Times published a plea to stop casting Stiller in comedies.
“I remember opening up the L.A. Times and there was this writer who wrote a letter: ‘Dear God, stop putting Ben Stiller in comedies,’” Stiller said. “I was just like, I don’t know, I’m here, I love doing what I do. But it’s only in retrospect that I can go, ‘Wow, there was a thing happening that I was fortunate to be a part of.’ But I don’t know what the zeitgeist was.”
He continued, “You can look at 2000s comedies, and they were a specific kind of thing,...

Here’s the play’s synopsis: “It’s the holiday season for the Dahl family! The four adult children return to their childhood home with partners in tow. The Dahl traditions include singing carols in harmony at the drop of a hat, but the gathering is anything but harmonious. Old conflicts resurface, new issues battled, and dinner is taking absolutely forever to be served. Will the love the Dahls have for each other be enough to get them through, or will this be their last Christmas together?”

A new Meet the Parents sequel is in development with the original cast returning — and it’s timed perfectly to go back to the franchise’s roots. It’s been 14 years since the last movie in this series, 2010’s Little Fockers, and now, a fourth Meet the Parents film is in the works. Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Teri Polo, and Blythe Danner are all in talks to reprise their roles from the original trilogy in the new reboot (via Deadline), and John Hamburg, the co-writer of all three previous movies, is back working on the script.
No plot details have been revealed about Meet the Parents 4, but the story that the reboot should follow seems obvious. The first movie, the endlessly quotable Meet the Parents, revolved around Stiller’s Greg Focker trying to win over his fiancée Pam’s stubborn parents. The second one, Meet the Fockers, revolved around Greg and Pam’s wedding,...

Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller are in talks to return for a new 'Meet the Parents' film.A new project is in development at Universal Pictures and fellow cast members Teri Polo and Blythe Danner are also in negotiations about reprising their roles.'Meet the Parents' was released in 2000 and centred on the comically awkward and tension-filled dynamic between male nurse Greg Focker (Stiller) and his fearsome ex-CIA father-in-law Jack Byrnes (De Niro). The dynamic between the pair both evolves and stays the same as Greg marries Jack's daughter Pam (Polo) and has children with her.'Meet the Parents' was critically and commercially acclaimed and went on to inspire the sequels 'Meet the Fockers' and 'Little Fockers' – which were released in 2004 and 2010 respectively.Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand also appeared in the franchise as Greg's parents Bernie and Roz although it isn't clear whether they will be returning.

Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller are returning for Meet The Parents 4, continuing a franchise which has been tolerated since the start of the millennium.
Though Robert De Niro is quite rightly acclaimed as one of the greatest actors of all time, his forays into comedies have been mixed, to say the least. Analyze This and Analyze That did a good job of parodying his tough guy screen persona, and Midnight Run is one of the all time great buddy comedies. But in recent years, you really do have to wonder why he put his name to films like The Adventures Of Rocky And Bullwinkle and gross out comedy Dirty Grandpa. Cash, presumably.
His most successful foray into comedy – commercially if not critically – is easily the Meet The Parents franchise, which was a remake based on a 1992 independent film of the same name written by Greg Glienna (who directed) and Mary Ruth Clarke.

John Waters somehow can’t find funding for a new movie starring Aubrey Plaza, but Hollywood is apparently more than happy to throw millions of dollars at a fourth entry in the Meet the Parents franchise. At least we’ll finally have answers to all of those lingering mysteries from Little Fockers.
Yes, Deadline is reporting that original stars Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Teri Polo and Blythe Danner are all in talks to appear in the movie, which is currently in development at Universal Pictures.
But we would like to offer a counterpoint: don’t. Don’t make any more of these movies.
The first Meet the Parents worked because it had a very simple, extremely relatable premise: a character meets their romantic partner’s parents and feels both intimidated and embarrassed. Most adults have experienced some version of this scenario. And Meet the Parents took that shared experience to comedic extremes,...

As a wise Focker once said, "You can milk anything with nipples." But in the case of the Meet The Parents franchise, turns out you actually just need Ben Stiller playing a man called Gaylord Focker and Robert De Niro playing his ever-alert, ex-CIA Father-In-Law Jack Byrnes. And having already encompassed a whole trilogy — Meet The Parents, Meet The Fockers, and Meet The Parents: Little Fockers — to date, it looks like the time has come to enter Focker-Byrnes' circle of trust once again. Per Deadline's reporting, a fourth film in the franchise is in the works at Universal Pictures, with Stiller and De Niro in early talks to return for more farcical family shenanigans.

Gwyneth Paltrow fought with Harvey Weinstein? ( Photo Credit – Instagram; Flickr )
Gwyneth Paltrow didn’t just win an Oscar for Shakespeare in Love—she went to war with Harvey Weinstein behind the scenes. Paltrow didn’t hold back in her Variety cover story celebrating two decades since her Oscar win, calling the disgraced producer a “bully” and revealing just how many battles they had.
“I wasn’t scared of him,” Paltrow said, recalling her early days at Miramax. As the studio’s golden girl, she felt it was her job to stand up to Weinstein. And boy, did she.
The Emma Money Showdown
The first significant fight? Emma is the 1996 flick in which Paltrow earned praise and a big paycheck. When Weinstein tried withholding her back-end compensation, Paltrow didn’t just roll over. “I got him to pay me something,” she said, describing the legal letter they sent with the check.

Bleecker Street executives Kent Sanderson and Myles Bender can vividly remember their first time seeing “Eye in the Sky,” a drone warfare thriller starring Helen Mirren and Alan Rickman that premiered in 2015 at Toronto Film Festival with hopes of finding distribution. Not long into the Canadian screening, they were held rapt by film but quickly realized their contemporaries in the room didn’t feel the same way.
“Within 15 minutes, I started watching a lot of other buyers get up and leave. I guess they felt the film was too challenging,” says Sanderson, Bleecker Street’s president. He and Bender, head of marketing and creative advertising, pushed for their boss, the film company’s co-founder and CEO, Andrew Karpen, to watch the film so they could bid on the distribution rights. Bender recalls, “We were looking at each other and saying, ‘What are we seeing that they aren’t?’”

Gwyneth Paltrow has been a modern fashion and lifestyle icon in the Hollywood landscape, especially after the actress’ legendary picture-perfect relationship with Brad Pitt that birthed countless trends and unforgettable photos in the ’90s. But the power couple was only one minuscule part of Paltrow’s stalwart presence in the industry and her classical beauty.

As the industry legends Bruce Paltrow and Blythe Danner’s daughter, the Shakespeare in Love actress has already been stapled with the label of a nepo-baby. However, the actress has carved out a platform for herself and her fans with the privilege that her background granted her. Now a highly proficient businesswoman, Gwyneth Paltrow can proudly boast of a career well-served and a life well-lived, if only for a few alterations via plastic surgery.

Gwyneth Paltrow is making her return to the big screen for the first time in five years. The “Shakespeare in Love” Oscar winner will join Timothée Chalamet in “Marty Supreme,” a new film for A24 about a ping pong champion, directed by Josh Safdie.
Since reprising her role as Pepper Potts in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” Paltrow has somewhat stepped away from Hollywood (she also appeared in the series “The Politician” in 2020), saying she doesn’t miss screen acting and had a desire to one day do a Broadway play.
She did, however, joke that if anyone could get her back to acting, it would be Robert Downey Jr., her “Iron Man” co-star. Coincidentally, Downey Jr. is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as mega villain Doctor Doom — though it’s not as if Paltrow has ever been super aware of the goings on of the MCU.

Emma Roberts appeared on the “Table for Two” podcast (via Vanity Fair) and was asked whether becoming a “massive movie star” was a priority for her when she decided to follow in the career footsteps of her father, Eric Roberts, and her aunt, Julia Roberts. Not quite. Emma said that watching her aunt become an A-list superstar as a kid showed her how scary that level of fame can be.
“I saw very up close what that really looks like,” Roberts said. “It’s obviously fun and it’s great, but there is a part of it that’s really scary. So I’ve wanted to kind of carve my own path. … Fame has never been the goal, because fame at a certain level is kind of scary.”

If the Toyota Prius, the world’s first modern hybrid car, had landed with a thud, we’d be living in a different world. Carmakers would have thought twice before launching rival models. And we’d have less reason for hope in the battle against rising temperatures. That it instead proved a hit is thanks in no small part to Hollywood — and Deborah Levin.
In 2000, when Levin took over as CEO of the Environmental Media Association (Ema), she was uncertain. “I had never done nonprofits. I didn’t know anything about the environment. I knew nothing. I sort of fell into this because I was incredibly inspired by the mission,” Levin tells The Hollywood Reporter. The organization, founded in 1989, was known for its advocacy of green initiatives and environmentally themed entertainment, leveraging Hollywood’s social influence to change industry and consumer behavior. The arrival of Hawkeye's former love Carlye during a season 4 episode highlighted his struggle with commitment, ultimately choosing medicine over romance. Despite viewers wanting a Hawkeye/Margaret romance, his doomed proposal to Carlye proves it was always doomed. The characters' focus on their careers and differing views on the war also made them an unrealistic pairing.
An important season 4 episode of Mash underlined why a romance between Hawkeye and Margaret was always doomed. Hawkeye and Margaret are the only actors to appear in both the first and final episodes, and it's fascinating to chart how they evolved over Mash's 11 seasons. Alan Alda's "Hawkeye" Pierce quickly became the breakout star, but his drunken, womanizing ways were later revealed to be his way of coping with the unyielding horrors of the war. Alda was also instrumental in the show's gradual shift from sitcom to dramedy.

With Warner Media merging with Discovery back in 2022 and consolidation within the entertainment industry on the rise ever since, many fans of TCM — which is owned by Warner — fear their favorite home for cinema history might fall victim to these drastic cuts. Thankfully the channel continues to sparkle and shine like the Hollywood of old with filmmakers Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Paul Thomas Anderson jumping on board to help curate and boost recognition of the channel. With their help, other directors have also come aboard — Guillermo del Toro, Wes Anderson, and Jason Reitman to name a few — offering their picks each month in the hopes of bringing in more viewers and keeping the love for classic cinema alive. This month’s curator is multi-hyphenate Viggo Mortensen, whose second directorial effort, “The Dead Don’t Hurt,” was released today.

In 2019, Sandra Oh simultaneously received her seventh and eighth acting Emmy nominations for “Killing Eve” (drama lead) and “Saturday Night Live” (comedy guest). Five years later, her performance bid total is set to reach an even dozen thanks to her respective lead and supporting performances in the telefilm “Quiz Lady” and the limited series “The Sympathizer.” Earning TV academy recognition for these two roles would make her the eighth woman to compete for both possible limited program acting awards at once.
In “Quiz Lady,” which premiered on Hulu last November, Oh plays Jenny Yum, a vivacious yet reckless woman who reunites with her estranged younger sister (Awkwafina) to resolve their mother’s gambling debts. “The Sympathizer,” which began airing on HBO in April, features her in the role of Sofia Mori, a 1970s Japanese American secretary who becomes entangled with a communist spy (Hoa Xuande).

Following his 2015 Emmy win for the final season of “Mad Men,” Jon Hamm took a large step back from TV stardom in order to beef up his film resume with titles such as “Baby Driver,” “Richard Jewell,” and “Top Gun: Maverick.” Now that he has made a splashy return to the small screen by playing new roles on “Fargo” and “The Morning Show” and reprising one on “Good Omens,” his Emmy nominations total could instantly rise from 16 to 19. If all of his possible 2024 bids come to fruition, he will be only the fourth person and second man to ever compete for three acting Emmys at once.

Chris Pine, Cynthia Erivo, Kieran Culkin, Sharon Stone and Rosie Perez celebrated Jeff Bridges’ seven-decade career at the 49th annual Chaplin Awards Gala in New York City on Monday night. But the Big Lebowski star almost chose a different career path.
During his acceptance speech for the Film at Lincoln Center‘s prestigious honor, the True Grit star shared that he originally “resisted” the idea of pursuing acting full-time for a few different reasons.
“It made me nervous, anxious, and I had other things I wanted to do,” he told the full auditorium at Alice Tully Hall. “I was very much into music. I loved ceramics, painting, and who wants to do what their parents do anyway?”
He recalled his father, actor Lloyd Bridges, explaining to him that he could do all of those things in this career path and use them all to some degree, which was one of the beauties of the job.
During his acceptance speech for the Film at Lincoln Center‘s prestigious honor, the True Grit star shared that he originally “resisted” the idea of pursuing acting full-time for a few different reasons.

Jeff Bridges isn’t like other leading men. So goes the tale for over 50 years and 70 films. Where other actors of his generation—Robert De Niro, Jack Nicholson—brought volume and bravado, Bridges excelled in the shadows. A charming pretty boy turned weary and soulful iconoclast, his characters have never been showy. As The Dude in “The Big Lebowski” or Bad Blake in “Crazy Heart,” he’s moved into his roles and lived in them—“enough,” as one critic wrote as early as 1973, “to make a picture worth seeing.”
“I’m not sure what to make of all that,” Bridges told Variety at Film at Lincoln Center Monday evening, where the actor received the prestigious Chaplin Award. “It’s shocking for myself to think about how many films I’ve done,” he said. “Each film is like a little lifetime. Gwyneth Paltrow is opening up about the sacrifices she’s made as a mother of two children.
During an interview for Today With Hoda & Jenna, Zanna Roberts Rassi mentioned that Paltrow’s mother, actress Blythe Danner, “gave up some incredible roles” to raise her family, and was wondering if the actress-turned-wellness guru has done the same.
“There were a lot,” admitted the Oscar winner, who shares her daughter Apple, 19, and son Moses, 18, with ex-husband Chris Martin. She is currently married to Brad Falchuk.
“I mean it’s funny because it didn’t feel like a sacrifice to me at the time, but if I look back at it through a cultural lens, I think like, wow, if people know that I didn’t do this movie or that movie, they’d be quite shocked,” she added.

The classic sitcom series "M*A*S*H" was incredibly ahead of its time, managing to get quite a bit of mature material past network censors. Sometimes that material had to deal with the anti-war nature of the series and the difficult conditions the characters found themselves in, and sometimes that material was just bawdy. Seriously, there are a lot of sex jokes in "M*A*S*H" and quite a few people are knocking combat boots, but originally there was going to be even more sex, and more adultery. There's already an awful lot of adultery on "M*A*S*H," with several major characters cheating on their spouses, but the original plan would have taken that up several notches.
The adultery in "M*A*S*H" has a complicated legacy — the early seasons are a bit more laid-back with the characters' morals and there's quite a bit of marital infidelity, while...
