For the better part of the last few decades, the actress has humored us with her brilliance in projects like the Scary Movie film series, The Hot Chick, Lost in Translation, and many more.
However, her defining moment as a comedy genius and actor came when she was roped in to star as Christy Plunkett in the hit CBS sitcom, Mom. From her quirky charm to her heartfelt performance as the sober mom trying to get her life back on track, Faris was the charm and draw of the series. Martha Stewart’s not a big fan of Netflix’s Martha documentary. The ending, in particular, is a sore spot for her. Following the documentary’s release on Oct. 30, 2024, Stewart revealed why she “hate[s]” the final scenes. That’s not all. There are plenty of other things she doesn’t like about it, and a select few she does.
She doesn’t like ‘looking like a lonely old lady’ at the end of ‘Martha’
Stewart gave her thoughts on filmmaker R.J. Cutler’s Martha documentary in a phone conversation with The New York Times in what became, per the interviewer, “roughly 30 almost uninterrupted minutes of sharp critique.”
If it were up to Stewart, the shots of her walking through her garden wouldn’t have made the final cut. “Those last scenes with me looking like a lonely old lady walking hunched over in the garden? Boy, I told him to get rid of those.

[The following story contains spoilers for season two of The Diplomat.]
As viewers of Netflix’s The Diplomat know, the second season of the series ends with a shocking moment for both the characters and viewers.
As Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell) tells his British ambassador wife Kate (Keri Russell), the president (William Rayburn) has died after he got so upset when he learned about his vice president Grace Penn’s (Allison Janney) involvement with the attack on the British warship that launched the series. The moment means that Penn has been elevated to president, and her staffers run to protect her.
Janney was as astonished by the turn of events when she read the final script as viewers likely were when they saw it unfold.
“I literally threw the script across the room,” Janney said, prefacing that remark by noting that she had “never had this happen” previously in her career, on Monday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! “It was like what the?...

That major twist in The Diplomat Season 2 finale doesn’t mean Grace Penn is a “bad guy.” At least not according to the TV show’s creator. The U.S. vice president, played by guest star Allison Janney, would have viewers thinking they too “would have made the same decision in that situation.”

Grace’s role in the attack on ‘The Diplomat’
Kate Wyler (Keri Russell), the U.S. ambassador to the U.K., finally got answers in The Diplomat Season 2. After the attack on a British ship in the series premiere that suddenly had her across the pond in a new job, she learned that Grace had been involved. Not just involved, but—gasp—she ordered the hit.

Following the release of The Diplomat season 2 on Oct. 31, the Netflix original political thriller series shot straight to the peak of the daily top 10 most popular shows in the United States as expected. Keri Russell returns in her Emmy Award-nominated role as U.S. ambassador Kate Wyler as the aftermath of the car bombing brings new layers to the unfolding conspiracy.
Thankfully, The Diplomat was renewed for season 3 ahead of the season 2 release date, and the upcoming new season has already started filming. And to make matters even better for fans, season 3 will again contain eight episodes rather than six. The reduced episode count was a major point of criticism for fans who simply just wanted more of the story to enjoy.
Well then, it should make fans of The Diplomat even more excited to learn that series creator Debora Cahn has ideas for the series well beyond the upcoming third season.

Judy Greer, Sean Astin, Bryan Cranston and John Goodman have all signed on to star in the upcoming dark comedy feature Chili Finger, with first-timers Edd Benda and Stephen Helstad to co-direct. Helstad wrote the script and Goodman is an executive producer. Additional castmembers Sarah Herrman and Paul Stanko are currently attached, with production slated to begin next spring. The film is produced by Beyond the Porch and Gold Tree Studios.
Chili Finger tells the story of a recently empty-nested mother (Greer) who discovers a human finger in her bowl of fast-food chili. When she blackmails the restaurant for a cash payout, the situation spirals out of control and her life descends into chaos.
So far, Astin, Cranston and Goodman’s characters are being kept under wraps.
“We couldn’t ask for a better cast to bring our quirky dark comedy to the big screen,” said co-directors Benda and Helstad.

[This story contains major spoilers from the season two finale of Netflix’s The Diplomat.]
There’s a new president at the end of season two of The Diplomat and Kate (Keri Russell) and Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell) have just made a “very powerful enemy,” as the actors themselves tell The Hollywood Reporter.
In the closing seconds of the season two finale of the Netflix political thriller, Kate and viewers learn, as Hal relays to her over the phone, that President Rayburn (Michael McKean) got so upset when Hal told him that his vice president, Grace Penn (Allison Janney), was behind the attack on the British warship that kicked off the series that the president died.
As the vice president’s staff swarms onto the back lawn at the ambassador’s residence to protect the new commander-in-chief, the camera closes in on Penn.
Speaking to THR, both Russell and Sewell indicate that their characters are likely still so shocked that they...

Spoiler Alert: This story contains major spoilers about the Season 2 finale of “The Diplomat.”
“The Diplomat” stars Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell already knew how Season 2 was going to end when they arrived for the table read of the sixth and final episode.
“The rest of the cast didn’t know,” Sewell tells me over Zoom from his Los Angeles-area home. “The scripts they were given were redacted. The very end of Episode 6 was blacked out, and only at the read through did they get the actual scripts.”
The last minutes of the episode find Hal (Sewell) frantically trying to get to Kate on the phone after he is seen speaking to President Rayburn (Michael McKean). Kate is on the lawn telling Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) she wants her job, when deputy chief of mission Stuart Hayford (Ato Essandoh) hands her the phone. Hal tells Kate that he...

So, firstly the title is a bit misleading as Netflix had renewed the Keri Russell-led political thriller comedy-drama series for Season 3 twenty days before Season 2 came out.
Despite The Diplomat Season 2’s shorter runtime compared to its first season, the streaming giant seems to have immense faith in the series as they renewed the series nearly weeks before the second season was supposed to come out and now we know why. The way Season 2 ends it opens up a lot more possibilities to where the series could go next as Kate Wyler grapples with new and dangerous world she is now in.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers from the Season 2 finale of “The Diplomat,” now streaming on Netflix.
Season 2 of “The Diplomat” has finally dropped, as promised, just days before the most consequential election of our lives.
Debora Cahn, the show’s creator, wrote this season way before Kamala Harris became the Democratic candidate for president, so whatever you’ve seen on “The Diplomat” concerning a Biden-like president and a female VP isn’t a reflection of those events. When Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell), husband to the American Ambassador to the United Kingdom, played by Keri Russell, insults that VP (Allison Janney) — saying that the only thing she’s accomplished is wearing white, or that the White House doesn’t even like her enough to stick in the back of photographs — he’s not referring to Harris. So keep that straight. And vote!

Politics is probably the last thing you’d like to spend your weekend thinking about as the country heads into Election Day, but Netflix would very much like you to at least try for “The Diplomat,” the streaming service’s hit series following the U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom.
The show’s six-episode second season, which is now streaming, picks up in the aftermath of the explosive Season 1 finale that left numerous lives in danger. But it’s the stars at the heart of the show that truly make it worth watching. In Season 2, Keri Russell, who received a best drama actress Emmy nomination for her work in Season 1, is joined by Emmy and Oscar winner Allison Janney, who memorably portrayed press secretary (and later chief of staff) C.J. Cregg on the preeminent political drama of our lifetimes, “The West Wing.” Here, she’s moved up the political ladder of power,...

Note: The following story contains spoilers from “The Diplomat” Season 2 finale.
Just as Keri Russell’s Kate Wyler was ready to sound the alarms bells for British corruption, the politician plotting in “The Diplomat” Season 2 took a sharp turn.
The Netflix series finds Kate and her team collecting incriminating evidence against British Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear) to prove that he was behind the attack on British aircraft carrier, the Hms Courageous. But their investigation takes a turn when Trowbridge’s former adviser, Margaret Roylin (Celia Imrie), tells Kate that Trowbridge was not involved in the attack, and that she hired Russian mercenary Roman Lenkov to stage an attack that would create outrage, not harm. As we know, it didn’t go to plan and resulted in the death of 40 Royal Navy personnel.

It's the first weekend of November, and Halloween's officially in the past. While that doesn't mean that you have to stop watching horror movies and other spooky things, a lot of people will be following the orders of Mariah Carey, who has declared that "it's time" to start celebrating Christmas.
On the first day of November, Netflix drops nearly a dozen recent Hallmark Christmas movies, including Bethany Joy Lenz's A Biltmore Christmas and Lacey Chabert's Haul Out the Holly and its sequel. The over-sized drop of holiday rom-coms leads to the kickoff of Netflix's original Christmas movie spree throughout the month, beginning next week.
But if you're not quite ready to get festive for a December holiday quite yet, there's plenty of Netflix new releases on the menu that have nothing to do with Halloween, Christmas, or even Thanksgiving. The Diplomat returns with its second season, a new...

[Editor’s note: This post contains spoilers for “The Diplomat” Season 2, including the ending.]
Let’s be honest: As soon as viewers learned that Allison Janney (Allison Janney!) was going to be never-before-seen Vice President of the United States Grace Penn on Netflix’s “The Diplomat,” you just knew she was going to be heavily involved in whatever final episode twists went down.
And she was. After an Episode 5 bombshell that Penn herself ordered the attack on a British ship that killed service members, Kate (Keri Russell) is ready to throw her to the wolves — or, at least, the Secretary of State. But in classic “Diplomat” fashion, there is still one more reveal to go. Cue Janney in a ball gown hauling a map into a formal dining room and explaining in barnburner of a monologue the complex decisions she’s making every moment to keep Americans alive from nuclear attack.
“She comes in, we think she’s terrible,...

After “The Diplomat” established the complex marriage between Keri Russell’s Kate and Rufus Sewell’s Hal, Season 2 digs into how the couple’s dynamic shifts after tragedy strikes.

The Diplomat Season 2 is clapping back. Showrunner Debora Cahn included a scene—and a specific line—about U.S. ambassador Kate Wyler’s appearance in the new season following criticism from fans during season 1. Ahead, a recap of the scene and why Keri Russell loves her character’s outfits.
Debora Cahn seized the ‘great opportunity’ to respond to fan criticism about Kate’s hair
“From the get-go, I’ve had a lot of feelings about women leaders and who we think is electable and who we think is brilliant—do those things intersect?” Cahn told Vanity Fair. In The Diplomat Season 2, she addressed criticism about Kate’s hair, a topic that became a source of conversation among fans during earlier episodes.

The Diplomat season 2 is officially done filming, according to star Nana Mensah. And, there's even more good news!
Mensah told TV Line that filming wrapped in the UK. She also shared that season 2 should be released on Netflix later this year. It's not the first time that we've heard the new season is going to premiere this year, so that's a great sign for fans who are eagerly awaiting the premiere of season 2 of the Netflix original series starring Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell, and David Gyasi.
Mensah also told TV Line that season 2 is “even better, more dynamic, more everything. The tensions have mounted in a way that is really propulsive and exciting.”
So, we don't know when production on The Diplomat season 2 actually wrapped, but it was still in production as late as this spring.

Warning: Major spoilers ahead from The Diplomat season 2 finale from this point forward. Proceed with caution if you have finished all six episodes!
Well, it's official: The Diplomat season 2 delivered the most shocking cliffhanger of the year. The second season of the Emmy-nominated Netflix original political thriller premiered on Oct. 31 and continued following the high-stakes career of U.S. ambassador Kate Wyler as she carefully maneuvers through a series of stressful situations.
The Diplomat season 2 picks up in the midst of the season 1 cliffhanger, which involved a car bomb going off in London and nearly killing Kate's husband Hal and her deputy chief of mission Stuart. Few shows in recent memory have as good a handle on what they are as The Diplomat. That’s particularly impressive when you consider that the series — starring Keri Russell as Kate Wyler, a veteran State Department operative thrust into the job of America’s ambassador to Great Britain, in what is secretly an audition to replace the sitting vice-president — is often trying to be multiple shows at once: a knotty political drama, a screwball romance,...

Spoiler Alert! This post contains major plot details from Season 2 of Netflix’s The Diplomat.
Foreign tensions escalate even further in Season 2 of The Diplomat as Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) continues investigating the bombing of a British aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf.
The breakneck six-episode season picks up right where things left off in Season 1, plunging viewers into the panic that broke out after a car bomb exploded in the heart of London, killing Parliament member Merritt Grove and leaving Kate’s husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) as well as her deputy chief of mission Stuart Hayford (Ato Essandoh) severely injured.
Kate and British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi) had begun to suspect that Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear) was behind both attacks, the first in an effort to quell Scotland’s independence movement and the second to silence Grove. However, as they dig deeper, it turns out...

The Diplomat season 2 episode, “Our Lady of Immaculate Deception,” begins immediately where the fourth episode ended.
In Scotland, Margaret Roylin (Celia Imrie) revealed to Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear) that it was actually her who hired Roman Lenkov to create a conflict and stop the Scottish secession movement, but the false flag operation went wrong.
Instead of hearing her out and listening to her reasoning, Trowbridge lost his mind and strangled Roylin. She falls to the ground and hits her head as the CIA agents who planned the operation rush in to pull Trowbridge off of her.
No, Trowbridge doesn’t kill Margaret Roylin
Thankfully, for the sake of the story, Trowbridge doesn’t kill Roylin. She’s injured badly, but she’s not dead. Not yet, anyway. She’s being treated for her wounds when the episode begins.
Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) leaves the room and goes back to the party.

Warning: This article contains major spoilers from The Diplomat season 2 finale.
Throughout its short but mighty six-episode run, The Diplomat season 2 takes us on a wild ride that doesn't let up once. Until the very last second, we're on the edge of our seats as Kate navigates a series of seemingly impossible situations, weaving in and out of metaphorical minefields.
The new season picks up in the aftermath of the attack in the season 1 finale, which left Hal's life on the line, as well as Stuart's and Ronnie's. It's an emotionally wrought place to begin the season, especially with the consequent series of revelations that completely flip the script on Kate.
By the end of season 2, our jaws are left permanently on the ground, and there's no way to overhype the cliffhanger that completely eclipses that of the previous season. Between Allison Janney, an unexpected ending, and a wide-open door...

American diplomat Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) has been so focused on trying to find traitors abroad that she never thought to suspect anyone back at home — and surely not Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney), a seemingly innocuous character on her way out of office, supposedly because of her husband’s sketchy financial behavior.
Although Kate’s relationship with her own husband, off-duty fellow ambassador Hal (Rufus Sewell), has been tracking toward divorce, their dynamic has grown even more complicated ever since she used their marriage’s “magic trick” to have him filter out essential intel from a British informant.
She’s stunned by the weight of what he’s been holding in, as the Season 2 finale of The Diplomat spirals toward a shocking — and dangerous — changing of the guard.
When two diplomats are married, there’s bound to be some swapping of strategy secrets during pillow talk. But this...

“Conclave” star and presumed Oscar Best Actor nominee Ralph Fiennes will receive the Outstanding Performer of the Year Award at the 40th annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival, festival organizers announced on Wednesday.
“Ralph Fiennes is one of the most gifted actors working in both cinema and theatre and has bequeathed us with so many memorable and extraordinary performances. He outdoes himself in “Conclave” – bestowing us with what may be the best work in his already legendary career” noted Sbiff’s Executive Director Roger Durling in a statement.
The honor will take place on Thursday, February 6, 2025. Fiennes is among the top contenders to receive a Best Actor nomination thanks to his work in the Edward Berger papal thriller. If nominated, it would be his third overall. Fiennes was previously nominated by the Academy for “Schindler’s List” in the Best Supporting Actor category, and “The English Patient” in the Best Actor category.

In April, on the morning before the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, Deadline gathered the stars of Netflix’s The Diplomat, Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell, and the show’s executive producer and showrunner Deborah Cahn, for a conversation with Irish Ambassador Geraldine Byrne Nason at her residence.
During that conversation, Nason said that she sees “a lot” of similarities between her life and the show, but quipped, “Some things I haven’t seen are the skinny dipping or the midnight feasts. In the basement of stately homes, I don’t do much of that.”
Russell and Sewell also spoke about the process of making the first season, with the latter explaining that their chemistry as two married, thrill-seeking foreign ambassadors was “there from day one, and if it’s there, leave it alone.”
For her role as Foreign Ambassador Kate Wyler, Russell said that she does research on stories based loosely on real-life events,...

The U.S. has an aging male president who’s expected to pass the torch to his younger female vice president. But something happens that disrupts these plans, and the White House scrambles to find a solution that will allow them to build on their commander-in-chief’s legacy.
That’s the political landscape in the fictional Washington of Netflix’s The Diplomat, as viewers learn early in the first season of the political series starring Keri Russell that the show’s vice president, Grace Penn (played by Allison Janney in the show’s second season, dropping Thursday), has a scandal that, White House aides say, will force her to resign. The aides are also secretly vetting Russell’s career diplomat, Kate Wyler, newly installed as the American ambassador to the U.K., as Penn’s replacement.
Despite distinctly different circumstances around The Diplomat‘s succession drama, viewers could have been...

When the cast of The Diplomat gathered for the final table read of Season 2, only Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell, and Allison Janney knew the wild developments in the last few scenes of the finale. The rest of the cast had received pages with redacted lines — which included that one huge twist.
“You need a genuine response to see if it’s going to do what you think it’s going to do,” says creator, showrunner, and executive producer Debora Cahn from set at Wrotham Park, in Hertfordshire, north of London. “And we got that genuine response.”
Indeed, when Ato Essandoh (who plays Stuart Hayford) heard the lines read aloud, his reaction was visceral. “I literally got up, threw the script down, and screamed!” Essandoh tells Tudum from his trailer between takes, while filming the penultimate scene. “I was like, ‘Oh, my God, Debora Cahn is a gangster.’ ”
