Updated with latest: Timothée Chalamet has been tapped to receive the Arlington Artist of the Year Award during the 40th edition of the Santa Barbara Film Festival. The honor will be bestowed February 11 during an-person tribute and career retrospective.

The festival, which runs February 4-15, said Monday it was honoring Chalamet for three 2024 films: the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, Dune: Part Two and the musical Wonka. The award, organizers said, “recognizes Chalamet’s unparalleled talent and his enduring impact on the cinematic landscape.”

A Complete Unknown hits theaters on December 25 via Searchlight.

Chalamet is the latest honoree announced by Sbiff, which is a must-stop on the annual movie-awards circuit. He joins the likes of the previously announced Ralph Fiennes from Conclave (Outstanding Performer of the Year), Maria‘s Angelina Jolie (the Maltin Modern Master Award) and Emilia Pérez star Zoe Saldaña (American Riviera Award).

So, firstly the title is a bit misleading as Netflix had renewed the Keri Russell-led political thriller comedy-drama series for Season 3 twenty days before Season 2 came out.

Despite The Diplomat Season 2’s shorter runtime compared to its first season, the streaming giant seems to have immense faith in the series as they renewed the series nearly weeks before the second season was supposed to come out and now we know why. “Season 3 flips the chessboard,” Debora Cahn, The Diplomat’s creator, showrunner, and executive producer told Netflix’s Tudum ahead of the season 2 premiere.

Mensah told TV Line that filming wrapped in the UK. She also shared that season 2 should be released on Netflix later this year. It's not the first time that we've heard the new season is going to premiere this year, so that's a great sign for fans who are eagerly awaiting the premiere of season 2 of the Netflix original series starring Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell, and David Gyasi.

Mensah also told TV Line that season 2 is “even better, more dynamic, more everything. The tensions have mounted in a way that is really propulsive and exciting.”

“Conclave” star and presumed Oscar Best Actor nominee Ralph Fiennes will receive the Outstanding Performer of the Year Award at the 40th annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival, festival organizers announced on Wednesday.

“Ralph Fiennes is one of the most gifted actors working in both cinema and theatre and has bequeathed us with so many memorable and extraordinary performances. He outdoes himself in “Conclave” – bestowing us with what may be the best work in his already legendary career” noted Sbiff’s Executive Director Roger Durling in a statement.

The honor will take place on Thursday, February 6, 2025. Fiennes is among the top contenders to receive a Best Actor nomination thanks to his work in the Edward Berger papal thriller. If nominated, it would be his third overall. Fiennes was previously nominated by the Academy for “Schindler’s List” in the Best Supporting Actor category, and “The English Patient” in the Best Actor category.

When the cast of The Diplomat gathered for the final table read of Season 2, only Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell, and Allison Janney knew the wild developments in the last few scenes of the finale. The rest of the cast had received pages with redacted lines — which included that one huge twist.

“You need a genuine response to see if it’s going to do what you think it’s going to do,” says creator, showrunner, and executive producer Debora Cahn from set at Wrotham Park, in Hertfordshire, north of London. “And we got that genuine response.”
