Kevin Spacey has responded to Guy Pearce’s claims that he had been “targeted” by Spacey while they were filming the 1997 thriller LA Confidential. Spacey has been accused by numerous actors of sexual harassment.
Pearce told The Hollywood Reporter, “I did that thing that you do where you brush it off and go, ‘Ah, that’s nothing. Ah, no, that’s nothing.’ And I did that for five months.”
He continued, “And, really, I was sort of scared of Kevin because he’s quite an aggressive man. He’s extremely charming and brilliant at what he does – really impressive etc. …He holds a room remarkably. But I was young and susceptible, and he targeted me, no question.”
Pearce recounted how he “broke down and sobbed” when he learned about the sexual assault accusations against Spacey amid the #Metoo movement. “I think it really dawned on me the impact that had...

‘The Narrow Road to the Deep North’ Review: Jacob Elordi Gives a Soulful, Years-Spanning Performance
Six months after director Justin Kurzel confirmed himself as a poet of machismo with 2024’s “The Order,” and six months before star Jacob Elordi will unleash his own take on Dr. Victor’s monster on the 2025 fall festivals, the Australian duo have dropped an altogether unexpected Frankenstein in frigid Berlin. Directed by Kurzel, and led by Elordi, the upcoming miniseries “The Narrow Road to the Deep North” plays as an intriguing genre mash-up that fuses the burly head of a war-drama onto the lithe body of a primetime soap.
Or perhaps the other way around — as the filmmakers premiered just two episodes of the eventual five-part series at the Berlin Film Festival, raising more questions than answers by previewing a time-hopping narrative that refuses easy classification.
Adapted from Richard Flanagan’s prizewinning novel, the prestige drama is less ambiguous about its protagonist, mind you. We follow rakish doctor Dorrigo Evans across three distinct timelines,...

Guy Pearce and Kevin Spacey starred together in L.A. Confidential, but Pearce recently claimed that Spacey “targeted” him during the film’s production. Spacey, who has faced several sexual misconduct claims, was quick to respond on social media.
Pearce had said that he initially brushed off Spacey’s alleged advances during the production of L.A. Confidential. “Ah, that’s nothing. Ah, no, that’s nothing,” he said. “I did that for five months, and really I was sort of scared of Kevin because he’s quite an aggressive man. “Guy, you need to grow up. You are not a victim.”
That was Kevin Spacey’s response in a video posted online to Guy Pearce’s statements about Spacey’s behavior on the set of L.A. Confidential in 1997.
“Grow up. Did you also, by the way, tell the press that a year after we shot L.A. Confidential you flew to Savannah, Georgia while I was shooting Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil just to spend time with me? Did you tell the press that, too? Or does that not fit into the ‘victim’ narrative that you have going?” asked Spacey.
Pearce recently told Deadline’s sister publication THR that though he “wasn’t sexually assaulted or molested, I was made to feel uncomfortable” by Spacey during production. He later alleged that, “I probably was a victim to a degree; I was certainly not a victim by...

Kevin Spacey on Tuesday denied targeting Guy Pearce on the set of 1997’s L.A. Confidential, telling Pearce to “grow up” and that “you are not a victim.”
Spacey’s response came one day after Pearce told The Hollywood Reporter‘s Awards Chatter podcast that Spacey “targeted me, no question,” while on the set of L.A. Confidential, also saying he had told his then-wife that the only days he felt safe on set were when co-star Simon Baker was present, because Spacey focused on Baker instead.
Pearce said the 2017 #MeToo movement, in which multiple allegations of sexual misconduct were leveled against Spacey and other prominent men in Hollywood, was “a really incredible wake-up call.”
“I was in London working on something, and I heard [the reports] and I broke down and sobbed, and I couldn’t stop,” Pearce recalled. “I think it really dawned on me the impact that had occurred and...

Actor Guy Pearce has opened up about his unsettling experiences with Kevin Spacey during the filming of the 1997 movie L.A. Confidential. In a recent interview, Pearce revealed that Spacey’s behavior made him feel uncomfortable and fearful on set.

When medical officer Dorrigo (Jacob Elordi) licks blood from a wound off the inner thigh belonging to Amy (Odessa Young), who is also his uncle’s wife, it’s a bracing, viscerally erotic moment that captures the overall vibes of Justin Kurzel’s miniseries “The Narrow Road to the Deep North.”
The extraordinary first two episodes of the Australian filmmaker’s adaptation of Richard Flanagan’s 2014 novel screened at the Berlin Film Festival, introducing us to Dorrigo (played by Elordi during World War II and Ciarán Hinds in 1989) and the haunted memories of his affair with Amy back in rural Adelaide before being shipped off to battle. Director Kurzel has made the male criminal psyche his signature inquiry, from last year’s “The Order” to 2021 Cannes winner “Nitram,” all based on true crime events. Hollywood has seen a lot of actors with failed marriages, and Guy Pearce’s is yet another name on the list. Tying the knot back in 1997, the now-57-year-old actor, with hits like Memento (2000), The Brutalist (2024), and L.A. Confidential (1997) on his resume, he found himself and his wife, Kate Mestitz, undergoing a divorce around 18 years later.

But throughout the time that they were together, the actor could sincerely admit that she was “the greatest love of my life,” as he recently claimed, years after their divorce. In fact, the Marvel actor had gone through so much in his life with his ex-wife and ostensibly found such a comfortable and safe place with her that he even let out his Kevin Spacey fears to her.

An emotional and reflective Guy Pearce got choked up during a new interview while recalling unpleasant experiences working with Kevin Spacey on Curtis Hanson’s classic 1997 film L.A. Following Nitram and The Order, Justin Kurzel goes from strength to strength with his riveting first detour into episodic television, The Narrow Road to the Deep North. While a current of unflinching violence runs through the director’s work, seldom if ever has the blunt shock of bloodletting played in such haunting counterpart to the pathos of brutalized humanity as it does in this adaptation of Richard Flanagan’s 2014 Booker Prize-winning novel. There’s a lingering soulfulness here that feels new to Kurzel’s work, distilled in an intensely moving lead performance from Jacob Elordi.

To this day, Kanchanaburi remains a hot destination — in every sense — for Australian and British tourists who come to pay tribute to prisoners of war who died under the Japanese lash, building the Burma Railway. Kanchanaburi is where the bridge crosses the River Kwai, subject of one of the most beloved war stories in cinema. The real sufferings of those prisoners has also been well chronicled, but, even so, Richard Flanagan’s novel The Narrow Road to the Deep North, which drew on his own father’s experience, found a new kind of narrative behind that history: a story of trauma that bleeds from war into a difficult peace and, while largely unspoken, lasts a lifetime, His novel went on to win the Booker Prize, the top international prize for literature in English.

Australian star Jacob Elordi shared some insights into his creative process and passion for acting during a brief stop on Saturday in Berlin, Germany for the world premiere of his upcoming period series The Narrow Road to the Deep North.
“I have no real interest in making movies for the sake of entertainment or for making money,” Elordi said. “There’s a feeling that I get — that everyone gets, I think — when you watch a film and I call it cinema. When you experience cinema and you’re in a room and it does that thing to you — that kind of profound, unnameable thing that moves you and confirms you on this planet in this life — that’s what I chase, I guess, as a performer. I want to be a part of that. Usually, it stems from the filmmaker. So I’m really just a super fan who’s following his heart.

Jacob Elordi had to lose weight to play a prisoner of war in the new Justin Kurzel-directed series “The Narrow Road to the Deep North” — but to him it “wasn’t complete torture.”
When Variety asked how the weight loss affected him at a Berlin Film Festival press conference, the “Euphoria” and “Saltburn” actor said it was actually “a very calming experience” to go through the process with his fellow cast members, whom he affectionally called “the lads.”
“I think there was something quite profound that happened, in that it wasn’t complete torture,” he said. “There was a peace that sort of came over all of us. And you kind of reach a level of love that goes beyond what you’re used to, because everything gets stripped away and you come down to the bare bones of, ‘Is my mate Ok? Am I Ok? How can I help?...

Showrunner Bruno Heller first gained notoriety for creating the historical epic series Rome before developing the procedural show The Mentalist. Centered on a faux psychic named Patrick Jane, the show saw him collaborate with the California Bureau of Investigation in multiple cases while trying to pursue his wife’s killer.
The show lasted seven seasons and amassed a huge fanbase, especially around lead actor Simon Baker. Heller had at the time only created Rome, and his next show immediately became a hit. When asked what inspired him to develop the series, he said that he wanted to create a character like Sherlock Holmes.

According to the director of “The Birds Who Fear Death“, Sanjay Patel, who has worked in the Oil & Gas sector for over 20 years, “Canada’s Oil & Gas industry has ravaged the wilderness, leaving behind a toxic legacy. What sparked my passion for this project were the tragic stories from Fort Chipewyan, an Indigenous community in Canada, where industrial development has led to increased cancer cases.” Using the aforementioned experience and stories, he has come up with a film that deals with the lives of the indigenous in Canada and the ways their lives have been disrupted. It is also worth noting that Since this is an Indigenous film, the filmmakers followed a significant media protocol in Canada, commissioned by Imagine Native, to ensure that Indigenous films respect and avoid cultural appropriation. In line with this protocol, the filmmakers conducted extensive consultations with Indigenous communities.

Indo-Canadian filmmaker Sanjay Patel ventures into the picturesque Northan Canada to tell the story of two greedy brothers who are forced to connect with their roots and have a first-hand experience of their Indigenous culture in “The Birds Who Fear Death.” After making his debut with Union Leader (2017), Patel seems to have polished his craft, although his well-intentioned narrative still lacks an emotional clutch, something that will hold these stories together and make their impact memorable.
In “The Birds Who Fear Death” we first meet Adam (Adam Beach), a foul-mouth middle-aged man who is extremely detached from his father William, despite him nearing his death. The detachment borderlines hate and we can see that whatever must have happened between the father-son duo was quite traumatic for him. Hollywood struggles with live-action anime adaptations, but the Akira adaptation is particularly challenging. Taika Waititi's upcoming project, Klara and the Sun, can offer a glimpse of what his Akira movie would look like. Akira's 22-year-long journey in development hell showcases the difficulties of bringing it to life.
Taika Waititis next movie will see the director tackle a dystopian world, making it the perfect replacement for his live-action Akira film that has been in development for several years now. Hollywoods live-action anime adaptations do not have a great track, with only a couple of movies and TV shows living up to their respective source materials. One Piece season 1 recently proved that there can be faithful adaptations that bring something new but respect the original story, which is essential for an Akira movie to work. However, adapting the iconic Japanese movie into a Hollywood feature is very difficult.

Remember that "Saturday Night Live" sketch about "Burn Notice" where the whole joke was that everyone has heard of "Burn Notice, but no one knows what "Burn Notice" is? Well, that's kind of how I imagine a lot of people feel about "The Mentalist." Who is this Mentalist? What is a Mentalist? And, if you're a Brit like myself, why does it sound like a show about an absolute nutter?
Well, it turns out "The Mentalist" was actually a pretty popular series — not quite popular enough for our humble website to have written about it in any capacity prior to this article, but popular enough to run for 151 episodes across seven seasons. Full disclosure — in case you haven't already guessed — I have not seen "The Mentalist," but apparently a lot of people have, otherwise CBS wouldn't have renewed this crime drama six times.
Anyway, back to the question at hand: what is "The Mentalist?...
