Kat Coiro is an award-winning director, producer, and executive producer (EP). She served as an EP and director on the pilot for CBS's 2024 pilot Matlock (2024), starring Kathy Bates. She went on to produce the rest of the series as well as directing nine episodes. Her 2022 Universal Pictures film Marry Me (2022), starring Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, and Maluma, is certified fresh with a 92% audience score. Marry Me (2022) was simultaneously #1 in theaters and #1 on streaming. She directed the pilot for Marvel series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022) (which she also EP'd), Roku's The Spiderwick Chronicles (2024), Tina Fey's "Girls5eva (2021)" (co-executive producer), and Florida Girls (2019). Before becoming a pilot and studio-film director, Coiro worked on many episodic shows, including Dead to Me (2019), Shameless (2011), and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (2005). She got her start writing, directing, and producing micro-budget indies, including 2013 Festival favorite And While We Were Here (2012), which she shot in Italy in 11 days for $150k, while 8 months pregnant. Coiro trained in the theater at Moscow Arts Theater in Russia, Carnegie Mellon University, and, briefly, as a fellow in the MFA program at AFI. She was born in New York, lived in Miami, and went to boarding school at Interlochen Arts Academy, where she runs a summer program. She has three children and works toward a more sustainable future.
