The Infernal Machine Review: Pearce Shines While the Plot Falters
Image
Some stories begin not with a bang, but with the subtle tear of an envelope. In The Infernal Machine, we meet Bruce Cogburn, a man who has effectively deleted himself from the world. Once a celebrated author, he now lives in a sun-bleached desert home, his days measured in glasses of liquor.

His self-imposed exile is penance; his controversial novel was co-opted by a killer two decades ago, and the guilt has been his only companion since. This quiet, decaying existence is shattered when letters from a persistent, obsessive fan begin to appear. The unwelcome correspondence acts as a narrative hook, pulling Cogburn into a psychological mystery that forces him to confront the very story he tried to bury.

The Anchor in the Storm

The film’s unshakeable foundation is Guy Pearce, whose performance is not just the movie’s strongest asset but its very soul. His portrayal of Bruce...

The Black Mirror Episode You Forgot Reacher's Alan Ritchson Was In
Image
Before Alan Ritchson was a famous action leading man, he was taking up smaller roles wherever he could find them. One of those small, oft-forgotten roles was in season 3 of "Black Mirror." In the premiere, "Nosedive," he played Paul, the picture-perfect fiancé of the main character's frenemy Naomi (Alice Eve). What do we know of Paul? Well, not much — he's a very minor character — but Ritchson helped make the character shine anyway.

The biggest thing to note about Paul is that a lot of viewers suspect him of being closeted. There's not a whole of evidence in the text to support of this, but fans have zeroed in on a moment where he's hugging his best man a little too much, and his fiancée Naomi looks on with a troubled face. I don't know if these fans are correct in their theory, but they're definitely picking up on one clear...

12 Years Later, the Steamy Star Trek Scene J.J. Abrams Had to Apologize for Remains the Only Memorable Thing About the Movie
Image
J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot started well with the 2009 film starring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. However, it quickly lost momentum with Into Darkness, and after Beyond, the Kelvin timeline seems to be stuck in limbo. The filmmaker has admitted to many mistakes on his part in Into Darkness, but one scene is living on in infamy.

Abrams’ decision to show actress Alice Eve in nothing but her undergarments in one scene in the movie seems to be the most memorable (in a bad way) moment from Into Darkness. The filmmaker and writer Damon Lindelof apologized for it after fans criticized them for using female characters only for the male gaze.

Image
Disgraced actor Kevin Spacey has been cast in the upcoming conspiracy thriller, The Awakening, after having faced career-threatening sexual assault charges over recent years.

Just last year, Spacey was accused of sexually assaulting former actor Ruari Cannon in June 2013, according to a testimony by Cannon the night before the premiere of Spacey’s documentary, Spacey Unmasked. Cannon claimed that their interaction at The Savoy Hotel was normal until Spacey reached into Cannon’s pants without consent and touched his buttocks.

This is one of many accusations made against the Usual Suspects star. More individuals have claimed that they were touched inappropriately by Spacey when they were teenagers, including a castmate on House of Cards. In total, Spacey has been accused of nine separate sexual assault charges.

Spacey appeared in court in July 2023 and was acquitted of all charges. The actor has denied these allegations publicly. He accused Britain’s Channel 4...

Daredevil: Born Again's Season 1 Finale Teases The Beginning Of A Marvel Comics Team
Image
Spoilers for "Daredevil: Born Again" follow.

"Daredevil: Born Again" season 1 ended on a downer note for Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox). His greatest enemy, Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio), is no longer just the mayor of New York City, he's the Big Apple's dictator. With martial law and an Anti-Vigilante Task Force on his side, Fisk outmatches Daredevil more than ever before. To take him down, Matt tells Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) they'll need an army.

What could that army look like? At the episode's end, Matt brings together his current allies: Karen, law partner Kirsten McDuffie (Nikki M. James), former detective Cherry (Clark Johnson), current (and honest) cop Angie Kim (Ruibo Qian), etc. So, not a whole lot of superpowered heavy hitters. Who else could this army enlist?

Punisher (Jon Bernthal) also escaped imprisonment by Fisk, so he's probably going to be back for the next battle. This...

Daredevil season 4 on Netflix would have been quite different from Daredevil: Born Again; a Typhoid Mary story with Alice Eve
Image
The nine episode first season of the Marvel series Daredevil: Born Again just made its premiere on Disney+ last month (you can read our review Here), and we’re already closing in on the end of the run – but the good news is, season 2 already started filming at the end of February, so we shouldn’t have to wait too long for the next batch of episodes. Although the initial plan was to rework some elements and make Daredevil: Born Again stand separate from the Netflix Daredevil series (despite sharing some cast members), the show underwent a creative overhaul when the writers and actors strikes shut down production in 2023. Now, this series is a direct follow-up to the Netflix series, picking up five years later… but that doesn’t mean it’s anything like what a Daredevil season 4 on Netflix would have been, as that season, if it had happened,...

Netflix's Daredevil Season 4 & 5 Plans Revealed By Former Marvel Showrunner
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

In the halcyon days before Disney+, Marvel Television partnered with Netflix to make Marvel Cinematic Universe-adjacent television shows. That partnership lasted from 2015 to 2018, and the end of it meant all the Netflix-Marvel shows ended too — even "Daredevil," which ran for three seasons and concluded with the promise of more.

Of course, the new Disney+ series "Daredevil: Born Again" is essentially a fourth season, bringing back co-leads Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. But Daredevil only needed to be "Born Again" because the original show ended prematurely. Had it gotten a fourth season at Netflix, it'd look nothing like "Born Again."

Don't take my word for it; listen to former "Daredevil" showrunner Erik Oleson, who oversaw the series' third and best season. Oleson did not return for "Born Again," but in a recent interview with The Wrap,...

Daredevil: Netflix Showrunner On Scrapped Season 4 & 5 Plans And Which Villain Matt Murdock Would Have Faced
Image
Though Daredevil: Born Again does effectively serve as a fourth season of the now defunct Netflix show, it sounds like the story would have been taken in a very different direction had the original series been allowed to continue.

Daredevil ran for three seasons on Netflix before being prematurely cancelled in 2018 when Marvel Studios/Disney regained full rights to the character prior to the launch of the Disney+ streaming service.

While speaking to The Wrap, showrunner Erik Oleson revealed that Bullseye was going to sit out the fourth season while The Man Without Fear faced off against another of his best-known villains from the comics.

“I’m very excited that the show came back at a different network. It’s so weird. As a showrunner, you’re kind of prepared for your show to be canceled. You’re not necessarily prepared for your studio [to be canceled]. It was a very bizarre thing,...

The 15 Lowest-Rated Ryan Reynolds Movies of All Time, Ranked
Image
Bringing snark and condescending line deliveries to every role, Ryan Reynolds is a love-him-or-hate-him kind of actor. He made his Hollywood debut in 1995 in a teen TV series called Fifteen. Since then, he has made a name for himself in comedy, horror, and most notably, as the "Merc with a Mouth" Wade Wilson, better known as Deadpool. Among critics and audiences, Deadpool and its sequel are considered some of the best superhero movies of the 21st century.

Ryan Reynolds almost single-handedly made the character of Deadpool a reality. Of course, it's not all love for Reynolds. With reviews of Deadpool & Wolverine being fairly mixed, it's a good time to go into the Ryan Reynolds archive to see which of his films is actually rated the lowest. Some of the films are entertaining gems that critics got wrong. Others are tough to watch, even for hardcore fans of the Canadian actor.

What Marvel's Daredevil Season 4 Plans Were Before Netflix Cancelled The Series
Image
Matt "Daredevil" Murdock (Charlie Cox) encountered numerous speed bumps on his journey from Netflix to the Marvel Cinematic Universe proper even before filming wrapped on "Daredevil: Born Again" Season 1. In late 2023, Marvel Studios chose to revamp "Born Again" with a whole different creative team, with showrunner Dario Scardapane ("The Punisher") and director duo Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson taking over. The end result is scheduled to premiere in March 2025, with returning characters Daredevil, Wilson "Kingpin" Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio), Frank "Punisher" Castle (Jon Bernthal), Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), and Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) set to encounter new players like Hector "White Tiger" Ayala.

Production hurdles are nothing new to Marvel Studios, but from a fan standpoint, they're particularly concerning when it comes to this show. "Daredevil" was the king of Marvel's Netflix superhero era, and a lot is riding on "Born Again" injecting some much-needed gravitas and critical approval back...

Scott Adkins has carved himself an impressive niche as a go-to action star, landing roles in franchises such as John Wick, The Expendables, and Universal Soldier. Now, one of his most non-stop brutal movies of the last few years has found its way to the top of the Hulu Top 10. Take Cover was one of several Adkins-led movies released in 2024, and it was also one of his best reviewed of the year.

Directed by Nick McKinless, the British action movie features Alice Eve, Jack Parr, and Madalina Bellariu Ion alongside Adkins. The synopsis of the film reads:

10 Underrated Action Movies From 2024 That Flew Under Your Radar
Image
Throughout 2024, various different exciting action movies have hit the big screens, but not all of them got their proper due. The best action movies of 2024 have drawn significant attention from audiences in the past year. Filmmaking is constantly evolving, and this year's harvest was huge. It's a privilege to have enough action films in one year to even have subcategories in the action genre like the best war movies of 2024. With such a massive influx of action films this year, it's inevitable that some numerous hidden gems have flown completely under the radar.

With today’s over-saturation of media, every year will find some films that deserve better being robbed of recognition. Like the best fights in 2024 movies, these films are as fleeting as they are entertaining. It's a shame to see so many of these action-packed movies go unwatched as they deserve a chance to entertain. With so many...

Star Trek 4 should focus on bringing back characters, not debuting new ones
Image
One of the biggest questions around Star Trek 4, aside from whether or not it'll get made, is 'who is going to be in it?'. We know that the surviving main cast will be present, assuming it gets made. Yet, beyond them, we're not sure. There are a lot of characters that we've met over the last few years that we'd like to see return to some degree.

There's Gaila from Star Trek 2009, Carol Marcus from Star Trek: Into Darkness, and Jaylah from Star Trek: Beyond. Not to mention side characters like Keenser, rumored characters like George Kirk, and characters played by rising stars like Navigation Officer Darwin (played by Aisha Hinds).

There are plenty of names to pull from, so much so that bringing in some new character from the original series for the sake of it seems pointless. Dare we say even a bit gauche? We...

Star Trek 4 has been delayed for over 8 years, but if it happens, the fourth J.J. Abrams-produced Star Trek movie can finally introduce Nurse Christine Chapel. However, one significant Tos character who hasn't been seen in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek is Nurse Chapel.

Originally played by Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, Nurse Chapel was the main assistant to USS Enterprise Chief Medical Officer Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy (DeForest Kelley) in Star Trek: The Original Series. Chapel was primarily known for her unrequited love for Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy). However, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has revitalized Nurse Chapel. Played by Jess Bush, Strange New Worlds has given Chapel a richer character and more agency so that Christine is now a brilliant, resourceful, and determined Starfleet Officer who...

Chris Evans is Always Open to Pursuing A Career In Politics ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Captain America might trade his shield for a soapbox someday. Yep, Chris Evans, the Marvel star and America’s unofficial boyfriend, once revealed he wouldn’t rule out running for political office. “I would never say never,” he said, hinting casually about his long-term plans.

Inspired by his uncle Mike Capuano (a former US representative from Massachusetts), Evans has toyed with the idea of stepping into politics. “I’m so proud of my uncle and anyone who dedicates themselves to helping the progression of society,” he said, calling public service both noble and challenging. But he’s fully aware of the grit it takes. “Washington is a tough place. I have my opinions, and maybe later in life, I might get up on a soapbox,” he added. Talk about a superhero arc, huh?

Before he even considers campaigning,...

Keanu Reeves 'Rotten' Sci-Fi Thriller Replicas Is Now Free to Stream
Image
Beloved actor Keanu Reeves is known for some of the best movies in both the sci-fi and action genres, including the likes of The Matrix, and the John Wick franchise. And its now streaming for free.

Directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff (who hasnt helmed a movie since but is due to take on some directing duties on the upcoming MCU Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again), and written by Chad St. John from a story by Stephen Hamel, Replicas stars Alice Eve, Thomas Middleditch, and John Ortiz. ‘Take Cover’ Review
Image
Stars: Scott Adkins, Jack Parr, Alice Eve, Madalina Bellariu Ion, Alba de Torrebruna | Written by Nick McKinless, Joshua Todd James | Directed by Nick McKinless

Take Cover is yet another take on one of, if not the most used plots in film, ready for retirement the protagonist, be they a spy, thief or killer for hire, agrees to one last job only to have it all go sideways. In this case, it’s Sam Lorde who we first see on a roof along with his spotter Ken talking about God as they wait for their target to arrive.

Their target does arrive, and they get their kill, but Sam also kills a woman who seemingly throws herself in front of him trying to save him. He retreats to his cabin in the woods to deal with this, and when their boss Tamara contacts him with his next assignment he tells her it will be his last.

Take Cover review – Scott Adkins hitman thriller makes Fast & Furious look like Gilbert and Sullivan
Jack Parr
Adkins’ veteran hitman goes against all action movie wisdom to accept ‘one last job’ – and promptly gets trapped in a hotel room and shot at

‘I fucking hate snipers,” says a meathead mercenary after finally laying hands on Scott Adkins’ marksman and using him to dust down an elevator. It’s hard not to have some sympathy, after the lengthy preamble of boorish buddy banter between jaded shooter Sam (Adkins) and his brash spotter Ken (Jack Parr) in this clunky huit clos action movie directed by longtime stuntman Nick McKinless. Their knucklehead repartee makes Fast & Furious look like Gilbert and Sullivan; clearly these are two guys who have spent too much time in each other’s company.

A veteran for some shadowy agency who handles government-approved assassinations, Sam loses his mojo after accidentally wounding a bystander. So he chooses to quit, but fails to observe long-established movie wisdom about never accepting One Last Job.

The best kept secret in action movies, Scott Adkins does what he does best in the newly released trailer for the upcoming action thriller Take Cover. Starring Adkins as a disillusioned hitman, the actor himself took to social media to share that early reactions to Take Cover have declared the movie, Pulse-pounding action that will keep you on the edge of your seat, and Explosive carnage reminiscent of a classic John Woo film. All of which should have action fans excited to see what Adkins has in store.

Scott Adkins & Alice Eve in Generic Action Thriller 'Take Cover' Trailer
Image
"When I get out of this... I'm coming to get you." Ohh boy, watch out! Brainstorm Media has revealed the official trailer for an action thriller titled Take Cover, yet another film being made by a stuntman shifting into directing. It's set for a VOD release in October, though it doesn't seem good enough to waste any money renting it. "No cover, no backup and no way out." A burned-out professional sniper finds himself trapped in an all-glass penthouse by a lethal competitor and must find a way to survive and somehow escape with little to no cover between him and the killer. Starring Scott Adkins as the aging hitman Sam Lorde, Jack Parr, Alice Eve, Madalina Bellariu Ion, Peter Caulfield, and Billy Clements. Meh... Yet another of these extremely generic, exceptionally derivative action films about a hitman trying to get out but being unable to cleanly leave his past.

Alice Eve: Star Treks Controversial Carol Marcus Actress Explained
Image
Alice Eve's Carol Marcus in Star Trek Into Darkness reimagines the Prime Timeline character with a twist. Dr. Carol Marcus is portrayed as a weapons scientist with an interest in experimental photon torpedoes. Controversy surrounds Carol Marcus in Star Trek Into Darkness due to her hypersexualized portrayal.

In Star Trek Into Darkness, English actress Alice Eve plays a controversial version of Dr. Carol Marcus in the Kelvin Timeline of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movies. Star Trek Into Darkness' Dr. Carol Marcus is a Starfleet physicist who specializes in weaponry, and a potential love interest for Chris Pine's Captain James T. Kirk. To hide the connection between herself and Admiral Alexander Marcus (Peter Weller), who released Khan Noonien Singh (Benedict Cumberbatch) from stasis, Alice Eve's Carol Marcus goes by Carol Wallace when boarding the USS Enterprise.

Star Trek Into Darkness isn't a direct remake of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,...

Every Freaky Lil' Weirdo Played By Cuckoo Actor Dan Stevens, Ranked
Image
Ahead of the release of "Cuckoo," I asked Dan Stevens in an interview where his character, Herr König, ranked in his roster of "freaky lil' weirdos." Instead of being a terrible parent and admitting which child is the gold star, he took the more diplomatic route. "I mean, I love all my weird little freaks equally," he says. "I couldn't possibly put them in order, but he's definitely up there in terms of how fun they were to play, largely because of the environment that was created." I can't argue with the answer and I respect his refusal to play favorites, but I am not Dan Stevens, and therefore, I have no qualms about highlighting all of my favorite weird performances of his, and ranking them so as to appease the almighty algorithm that requires such things. This is by no means a definitive list, but 10 of his absolute finest.

Sarah Marshall: Kirks Girlfriend In Star Trek Tos The Deadly Years Explained
Image
Sarah Marshall portrayed Janet Wallace, one of Captain Kirk's old flames, in Star Trek: The Original Series season 2, episode 11, "The Deadly Years" Sarah Marshall's character helped Doctor McCoy cure the crew's rapid aging virus and save the day. Alice Eve's character in Star Trek into Darkness adopted the name Carol Wallace as a nod to Sarah Marshall.

Sarah Marshall played Janet Wallace, one of the many girlfriends of Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) in Star Trek: The Original Series. While Kirk had multiple romances during Tos, his five-year mission also brought him into contact with a few old flames. For example, Kirk's ex, Janice Lester (Sandra Smith), was the primary antagonist in "Turnabout Intruder", the final episode before Star Trek was canceled in 1969. Sarah Marshall's Janet Wallace was another of Kirk's old flames, but she came aboard the USS Enterprise to help its captain, not hinder him.
