Last summer, the news broke that DC Studios is moving forward with an animated Blue Beetle TV series. The show was already in development when the announcement was made, with Miguel Puga (The Casagrandes) said to have started work on the project months before. 

He'll serve as showrunner, while Cristian Martinez (Women of the Movement) is writing the series. Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, director and screenwriter of the 2023 movie, respectively, executive producing alongside John Ricard. Galen Vaisman, another Blue Beetle executive producer, is overseeing the series for DC Studios.

Talking to The Direct at the Saturn Awards, Maridueña expressed his enthusiasm to play Blue Beetle again.

Jacques Audiard’s “Emilia Pérez” leads the 7th annual Latino Entertainment Film Awards with an impressive 17 nominations, including best picture, director, and four acting nods for Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez, Adriana Paz and Zoe Saldaña. Warner Bros. has a packed schedule ahead. James Gunn is building his DC Universe from the ground up, with the first project, Creature Commandos, set to release in just under two months. Meanwhile, Matt Reeves is crafting his Batman Epic Crime Saga, with The Penguin currently airing and The Batman Part II slated for a 2026 release.

Blue Beetle may have been the leader of one of the greatest and most heroic legacies in the history of the DC Universe, but the fan-favorite character wasn’t done much justice when it comes to his story’s live-action adaptation film from 2023.

While the story faced mixed reviews from general audiences and fans, its box office run was the most disappointing and a thoroughly forgettable one.

But it seems like the Dcu is here to make fans forget all about that. This comes after the latest reports about Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios’ next project, which is an animated series on this very character, build up on the original movie.

Since this will continue to tell the story of the iconic superhero, fans are once again demanding the involvement of Xolo Maridueña in it.

It's unclear whether that would be in another solo outing as the Blue Beetle movie made only $130.8 million worldwide on a reported $104 million - $125 million budget.

The Casagrandes will be back for a third go-round. Ahead of its season 2 debut, Nickelodeon has renewed Emmy-winning kids series The Casagrandes for a third season.

A spinoff of Nickelodeon’s top-rated animated series The Loud House, The Casagrandes has ranked as the number two animated property across television with Kids 2-11 since its October 2019 debut. Season three is currently in production by Nickelodeon Animation Studio.

The Casagrandes tells the story of Ronnie Anne, who moves to the city with her mom and older brother to live with their big, loving family, the Casagrandes. The series showcases the culture, humor, and love that’s part of growing up in a multigenerational Mexican-American family. Season 3 will find Ronnie Anne and her family members on a variety of adventures while exploring different areas of the city.

From Disney Jr.’s Latina princess show “Elena of Avalor” and Guillermo del Toro’s “Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia” trilogy at Netflix, to Nickelodeon’s family sitcom “The Casagrandes” and Cartoon Network’s adventure show “Victor and Valentino,” there is a growing roster of projects that explore the diversity of Latin American cultures.

These shows are driven, in part, by what “The Book of Life” director Jorge Gutiérrez calls the “Dora” generation, an entire swath of creators who grew up seeing a Latina central character as a normal thing. Nickelodeon is expanding the world of its popular toon “The Loud House” with the multicultural spinoff “The Casagrandes,” which premieres Monday, Oct. 14, at 1:30 p.m. Et/Pt before moving to its regular timeslot on Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. beginning on Oct. 19.

The new series follows Lincoln Loud’s friend 11-year-old Ronnie Anne Santiago, who moves to the big city with her mother and older brother to live with their multigenerational Mexican-American family, the Casagrandes, over their family-owned mercado. Variety and Nickelodeon partnered for the event, held at NeueHouse in Hollywood on Tuesday night and hosted by Variety’s executive vice president of content Steve Gaydos.
