It's been a long time coming, but the world finally knows, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that Colin Farrell is one of the best actors currently working today. The Irish-born performer got his start in genuinely great projects like "Minority Report," but when he followed that particular film with filler thrillers like "The Recruit" and "S.W.A.T.," it became easy to overlook his talent. (His turn as Bullseye in Ben Affleck's dud "Daredevil" didn't help either.) In 2008, though, he starred in Martin McDonagh's drama "In Bruges" alongside Brendan Gleeson — two collaborators he'd team up with again years later — and in recent years, Farrell's projects have skewed more towards quality like "In Bruges" rather than, say, "Alexander."

Despite being a storytelling staple since before the term was even coined (not to mention sparking several mass panics), real life psychopaths are exceedingly rare. It’s estimated that only about 1% of the population is truly devoid of empathy, and even then, most of them seem content with working jobs where they feel powerful rather than actively seeking out homicide.

And yet, we remain fascinated with the idea of invisible bogeymen living among us during the day and committing terrible acts of murder at night – which is likely why there are so many psycho-focused genre films out there. And with such a huge backlog of (usually psychologically inaccurate) stories about mentally ill killers, it was only a matter of time before clever filmmakers began subverting the tropes that surround our favorite ne’er-do-wells. Among these satirical productions, I think one of the most underrated happens to be Martin McDonagh’s darkly humorous thriller Seven Psychopaths.

Steven Knight has talked up the “mindblowing” Peaky Blinders movie cast, but he is keeping tight-lipped about the project as it gears up for production.

Rebecca Ferguson and Barry Keoghan have joined Cillian Murphy, who will reprise his role as Tommy Shelby, leader of the eponymous Birmingham gangster family.

Plot details of the Harper-directed feature are being held close, but Knight has previously told Deadline that the story will be set during World War II. Netflix greenlighted the Peaky feature in June.

“We’ve announced Rebecca Ferguson, we’ve announced Barry Keoghan, we’ve got some more announcements coming,” Knight told the Rts London Convention. “It’s set in the Second World War and it’s really good.”

Producers are Caryn Mandabach, Knight, Murphy, and Guy Heeley. Executive producers include Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren, and David Mason. The feature will be made in association with BBC Film.

CAA’s Roeg Sutherland is set to be honored with the Zurich Film Festival’s Game Changer Award for his outstanding achievements and contributions within the film industry.

The co-Head of CAA’s Media Finance department as well as its International Film Group, will be presented with the award during the festival’s industry-focused Zurich Summit, which takes place in October within the framework of the 20th Zurich Film Festival (Zff).

As part of the recognition, FilmNation Entertainment CEO Glen Basner will host the Game Changer Award recipient conversation, in which he will speak with Sutherland about his journey.

“Roeg is a passionate cinephile and industry leader, who has not only discovered, but also nurtured and developed the careers of countless artists. The family drama “How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies” has become the highest-grossing Thai film of all time in The Philippines, distributor Westec Media claims.

The company, which released the film, does not quantify the receipts or the record. But there is little doubt of the film’s hit status across Asia. It has garnered THB1 billion (approximately $27 million) and achieved 10 million admissions, according to producer GDH559.

In Indonesia, where the film was released on May 15, it attracted 3.5 million admissions and became the highest grossing (non-local) Asian film in the country’s box office history. In Myanmar, following its release on May 31, has also become the highest-grossing Thai film ever recorded. It stands as the highest-grossing Thai film in Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam.

The heartwarming story follows a teenage university dropout (Putthipong “Billkin” Assaratanakul), who quits his job to care for his ailing grandmother (Usha Seamkhum) to secure a large inheritance.

Bristol-based short film event Encounters Film Festival has cancelled its 2024 edition due to funding issues, with future editions of the event also in doubt.

Actor Michael Stuhlbarg will perform in the first preview of Patriots on Broadway on Monday after being attacked near Central Park on Sunday evening, according to a spokesperson for the production.

According to media reports, Stuhlbarg was walking in Central Park when a man threw a rock and hit Stuhlbarg in the back of the neck. Stuhlbarg chased the man, later identified as Xavier Israel, out of the park. Israel was taken into custody and charged with assault and Stuhlbarg declined medical attention, according to reports.

“The entire Patriots company fully supports Mr. Stuhlbarg, who feels fine and is looking forward to performing on stage tonight,” the statement from the production reads.

At some point during the first act of Robert Lorenz’s handsome but egregiously hackneyed “In the Land of Saints and Sinners,” which is maybe the 900th Liam Neeson movie about a weary hitman/rancher/fixer/truck driver/ex-cop/very tall person who decides to take matters into his own hands when some bad guys step over the line, the prolific Irish actor turns to one of his scene partners and sighs: “There’s more to me than this, and I’d like folks to see it.”
