Glastonbury 2025’s Biggest Moments: Olivia Rodrigo, Lorde, Kneecap
Image
This past weekend, the music-loving hordes returned to Worthy Farm, and once again the Glastonbury Festival did not disappoint. The four-day event featured a plethora of great performances, politically charged controversies, and a couple of wild surprises. Here’s our run down of the eight biggest moments of Glastonbury 2025.

Lewis Capaldi’s Emotional Return

Back in 2023, Scottish crooner Lewis Capaldi was on stage a Glastonbury, trying to perform while visibly battling twitches caused by Tourette’s syndrome. Capaldi got some help from fans as he finished his set, after which...

Olivia Rodrigo Performs with The Cure’s Robert Smith at Glastonbury: Watch
Image
Olivia Rodrigo closed out the final day of Glastonbury on Sunday with a headlining set that featured a surprise appearance by The Cure’s Robert Smith.

Introducing Smith as “the greatest songwriter to come out of England,” Rodrigo welcomed the frontman to join her for performances of The Cure’s classic songs “Friday I’m in Love” and “Just Like Heaven.”

Rodrigo’s duet with Smith is just her latest high-profile onstage collaboration with a legendary alt-rocker. Earlier this month, she brought out David Byrne for “Burning Down the House” during her headlining set at New York’s Governors Ball. Over the past year or so, she’s also shared the stage with No Doubt, Jewel, Sheryl Crow, and Stevie Nicks.

When Does Elena Gilbert Become A Vampire In The Vampire Diaries?
Image
This post contains spoilers for "The Vampire Diaries."

In season 3 of "The Vampire Diaries," Original vampire Elijah Mikaelson (Daniel Gillies) writes Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) a letter tinged with regret. "Your compassion is a gift, Elena. Carry it with you, as I will carry my regret," Elijah writes, appealing to Elena's humanity and her conscious choice to forgive/empathize. This is just one of many instances that highlight how crucial Elena's humanity is to "The Vampire Diaries", especially while she's surrounded by undead vampires with skewed, questionable moral compasses.

These supernatural beings are complex in their motivations as well, as both of her love interests — vampire brothers Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) Salvatore — have disparate attitudes toward human lives and covet Elena for different reasons. Although Elena brings out the best (and worst) in the Salvatore siblings, she is also acutely aware of the mindless bloodlust that comes...

The Cure’s Songs of a Lost World Remixed by Chino Moreno, Mogwai, Four Tet, and Orbital
Image
The Cure’s latest album, Songs of a Lost World, is getting a makeover courtesy of such artists as Deftones’ singer Chino Moreno, Mogwai, Four Tet, Orbital, Paul Oakenfold, and others. A remix album titled Mixes of a Lost World will arrive on June 13th, with royalties benefiting the charity War Child UK.

“Just after Christmas I was sent a couple of unsolicited remixes of Songs of a Lost World tracks and I really loved them,” stated The Cure’s Robert Smith in a press release. “The Cure has a colorful history with all kinds of dance music, and I was curious as to how the whole album would sound entirely reinterpreted by others.”

He added, “This curiosity resulted in a fabulous trip through all 8 songs by 24 wonderful artists and remixers and is way beyond anything I could have hoped for. Giving our recording royalties from the project to war...

Neil Young Heeds Robert Smith’s Call, Ceases Selling Platinum Concert Tickets
Image
Neil Young says he was inspired by The Cure’s Robert Smith to eliminate “platinum”-priced tickets from his upcoming concert tours.

Sold by Ticketmaster, platinum tickets are allotment of seats sold at premium prices that fluctuates based on market conditions. Ticketmaster contends that these tickets cut out scalpers and allow more money to go into the pocket of artists.

For The Cure’s “Shows of a Lost World Tour,” Robert Smith notably opted out of Ticketmaster’s “platinum” and other “dynamically priced” ticketing options. In the end, the average ticket price for the “Shows of a Lost World Tour” was $68.54 — 37% less than the average ticket price 2022’s other top tours — all while The Cure still managed to achieve the highest-grossing tour of their legendary career.

In a 2024 interview with The Times of London, Smith said modern ticketing practices were “driven by greed,” adding, “We didn’t allow dynamic pricing...

‘Xo, Kitty’ Season 1 Recap: What To Remember Ahead Of Season 2
Image
Almost five years after the release of Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018) film, main character Lara Jean’s (Lana Condor) younger sister Katherine “Kitty” Song Covey (Anna Cathcart) embarked on an adventure and spinoff show of her own, Xo, Kitty.

The Netflix series was teased in the third To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before film, Always and Forever, Lara Jean (2021), when Kitty met Dae, who was portrayed by Jeon Ho Young in the short scene, during a family trip to Korea.

Announced in Oct. 2021, eight months after the arrival of the final film on the streamer, Netflix’s first spinoff series inspired by a Netflix original film hit screens mid-May 2023. Just like her older sister, Kitty got herself tangled up in some complicated love triangles last season. She also picked up on an intriguing mystery to solve thanks to some things her mother left behind.

The 50 Best Albums of 2024
Image
Seemingly ever-dwindling attention spans have given commentators anxiety that people simply won’t care to engage with albums anymore. But time and again, artists have proved that they’re still committed to using the format to communicate a Big Idea, make a creative pivot, or announce a new chapter in their career. The album is still the most coherent way for us to understand where music culture is in any particular moment.

Indeed, as you can see from this list, pop music has gone country. Not only do the Billboard receipts and Beyoncé’s sprawling Cowboy Carter bear this out, there are copious twangs, pedal steel weeps, and pastoral narratives infecting indie music too (see Jessica Pratt’s Here in the Pitch and Waxahatchee’s Tigers Blood). Folk music is also having a moment: Adrianne Lenker, Beth Gibbons, and Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, among others, employed stripped back arrangements to tell haunting,...

The Cure’s Long-Awaited ‘Songs of a Lost World’ Tops Amazon’s CD and Vinyl Bestseller List
Image
This past Friday marked the long-awaited release of The Cure’s Songs of a Lost World after a 16-year interval, and the verdict is in — it was worth the wait. Rolling Stone’s Rob Sheffield dubbed it “the Cure’s best since Disintegration,” calling it a “vividly propulsive space-rock goth elegy, eight songs in fifty minutes, kicking with a full-blooded band attack.” Fans seem to agree, as the album has rocketed past other recent releases to take the top spot on Amazon’s best-selling CDs and Vinyl charts.

The Cure ‘Songs of a Lost World’ Review: A Somber Reflection on Love and Loss
Image
Unlike much of the Cure’s output between the mid-1990s and 2008, Songs of a Lost World is textured and well-balanced, achieving a cinematic wall of sound worthy of comparison to 1989’s Disintegration. Just shy of 50 minutes, it’s also the band’s first studio album in 16 years that isn’t excessively long—a welcome change for a group that, while it excelled at taught minimalism early in its career, has tended toward rock excess ever since.

Songs of a Lost World, much of which was originally recorded back in 2019, finds the Cure not only avoiding past mistakes, but also the pitfalls that can befall releases with such a protracted development. The album doesn’t feel overworked, and largely sounds like a band playing live in a room. You wouldn’t know to listen to it that some of the music initially accompanied different lyrics or that Simon Gallup re-recorded...

The Cure Release First Album in 16 Years, Songs of a Lost World: Stream
Image
The Cure have finally returned with a new album: Songs of a Lost World, the group’s first new release in 16 years, is out today via Fiction/Capitol Records.

Though it was formally announced back in September along with lead single “Alone” (which we named Song of the Week upon release), The Cure have been gearing up for Songs of a Lost World for quite a while. Frontman Robert Smith revealed to NME that their new album was titled Songs of a Lost World back in 2022, and despite not sharing any of its songs, they even embarked on the “Shows of a Lost World” tour in 2022-2023.

During that tour, The Cure debuted several new songs that would appear on the album, including “Alone,” “Endsong,” “And Nothing Is Forever,” and “I Can Never Say Goodbye” — the latter two being included on the band’s recent 12-inch eco-vinyl single, Novembre – Live...

The Cure Will Retire After 50th Anniversary of Debut Album in 2029
Image
The Cure’s Robert Smith has revealed he has a time window in mind for his band’s retirement. In a lengthy interview with Matt Everitt published on the group’s official website, Smith explained his final plans for The Cure revolve around the respective 50th anniversary celebrations of the group in 2028 and their debut album in 2029.

The final lap will begin with The Cure’s next world tour, which Smith aims to start “autumn next year” after completing the follow-up to their upcoming album, Songs of a Lost World. After that, the band will play “quite regularly” through their 50th anniversary, which they’ll also mark with a previously teased documentary film.

“Seriously, I have to finish the second album,” Smith told Everitt. “We were going to play festivals next year, but a couple weeks ago, I decided that we weren’t going to play anything next summer. The...

Are the Cure Finally Releasing Their Long-Awaited Album in Six Weeks?

The Cure appear to be on the precipice of finally announcing their long-awaited new album, as the band has wiped their website and teased a release date for their first LP in 16 years.

Every Vampire Who Uses The Cure in The Vampire Diaries
Image
The Vampire Diaries had one of the most immersive universes, so much so that it spawned two spinoffs. Full of twists and turns, The Vampire Diaries upped the stakes when it introduced The Cure in Season 4. Till this time, the norm was that when a human died with vampire blood in their system, they transitioned into vampires themselves, which was a permanent change. However, this was turned on its head with the introduction of The Cure.

In hindsight, it was obvious that something like The Cure would be introduced once Elena turned into a vampire, which happened in Season 3, Episode 22, "The Departed." This legendary object was proved to be real, and it offered a way back to humanity for vampires who never wanted to become immortal. While vampirism was sold as an ideal for most of The Vampire Diaries, humanity became the most coveted thing once The Cure was introduced.

The Crow 1994 Soundtrack Guide: Every Song & When They Play
Image
The soundtrack to Alex Proyas' gothic superhero film The Crow is essential to the dark mood of this 90s cult classic. Starring Brandon Lee in his final role as Eric Draven, the film follows the story of a rock musician brought back from the dead to avenge the murder of his fiance. Music is integral to Draven's character and also featured heavily in the comics on which The Crow movie was based.

The inclusion of songs by 80s post-punk groups the Cure and Joy Division is particularly notable. Writer James O'Barr devoted a whole page of the comic to the lyrics of "The Hanging Garden", while the chapters "Atmosphere" and "Atrocity Exhibition" took their titles from Joy Division songs. Just as the soundtrack to The Crow 2024 features original music by FKA twigs, the 1994 version included songs written specifically for the film, such as The Cures Burn. The contribution of such...

The Crow 2024 Soundtrack Guide: Every Song & When They Play
Image
The Crow 2024's soundtrack sets a gothic mood with new songs, including FKA twigs and opera pieces. Notable songs like "Burn" and "Dead Souls" from the original movie are excluded for a fresh take. Each song in The Crow 2024 can be found online individually, but the full soundtrack is not yet released.

2024's The Crow soundtrack is filled with music and songs to help set the gothic mood of the comic book reimagining. With Bill Skarsgrd in the lead role as Eric Draven, The Crow's cast hinted at how music could be an integral part of the new adaptation. Singer FKA twigs is featured as the female lead of the movie, playing Eric's love interest, Shelly. While she is involved in the film as an actress first and foremost, the decision to include a prominent music star brought along some expectations that The Crow's soundtrack could...

The Long And Dark History Of The Crow Franchise
Image
The first issue of James O'Barr's comic book "The Crow" was initially published in February 1989, and it joined the ranks of a growing contingent of broody, Goth-friendly comics that spoke to a growing cultural obsession with death and angst. The story of "The Crow" is incredibly bleak. A young man named Eric and his fiancée Shelley are attacked in an alleyway by a random group of thugs. Eric is shot in the head and left paralyzed, while Shelley is assaulted, beaten, and murdered. Eric later succumbs to his wounds and dies at the hospital.

An invisible mystical crow, however, finds Eric's soul in the afterlife a year later, and returns it to his body, resurrecting him. Eric is more or less a zombie and can be wounded without dying. He also becomes an introspective poet, often quoting Rimbeau and even Joy Division lyrics. He instantly became the poster boy for broody Goths everywhere,...

The Cure’s Robert Smith Calls the Entertainment at Casa Bonita the ‘Greatest Thing I’ve Ever Seen’
Image
When he’s not busy destroying Mecha-Streisand with his “Robert Punch,” The Cure frontman Robert Smith can be found chowing down on refried beans and marveling at the magnificence of the Casa Bonita cliff divers.

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s passion project, the eleven-figure rehab of the beloved Denver area Mexican restaurant and entertainment megaplex Casa Bonita, is still some indeterminate distance away from opening its doors to the general public — though some A-listers are already basking in the magnificence that only hard work, passion and $40 million can achieve.

Starting last year, select celebrities and lucky fans from the nearly year-long waitlist have been able to visit the sprawling shrine of tacos and puppet shows in successive waves of the Casa Bonita soft launch, and the review from one such celebrity guest suggests that the massive fortune Parker and Stone have poured into the restaurant that...

‘Beating Hearts’ Review: Gilles Lellouche’s Epic Outlaw Love Story Is A Crowd-Pleasing French Hit – Cannes Film Festival
Image
Seemingly from out of nowhere, actor turned director Gilles Lellouche throws a Molotov Flanby into the Competition with only his second feature, a terrific and unexpectedly potent piece of genre filmmaking that could, to avoid spoilers, be described as a kind of mash-up of Badlands and La Haine, as if directed by Walter Hill. Throw in a little Eurocrime, from the likes of Fernando Di Leo and late-period Jean-Pierre Melville, and you’re getting close to what Lellouche has achieved here, a romantic banlieue opera that delivers all the gritty, vicarious thrills of the now-standard post-Goodfellas gangster movie but also burrows into issues of class and gender in refreshingly unpredictable ways.

It arrives as a movie seemingly made by committee, since the film is based on an Irish novel — Jackie Love Johnser Ok? by Neville Thompson — and features contributions by fellow filmmakers Ahmed Hamidi and Audrey Diwan. It quickly...

‘Beating Hearts’ Review: Love Conquers All, Including Good Taste, in Overwrought French Crime Romance Starring Adèle Exarchopoulos
Image
If you took Magnolia, Goodfellas, Boyz n the Hood and perhaps Claude Lelouch’s A Man and a Woman, plugged them all into the latest version of ChatGPT and asked it to spit out a brand new film, you could wind up with something like Gilles Lellouche’s (no relation to Claude) swooning French crime romance, Beating Hearts (L’Amour ouf).

A hodgepodge of movie clichés and overwrought scenes, directed with zero tact and plenty of pounding needle drops, actor-turned-director Lellouche’s third stab at the helm after his rather likeable ensemble comedy, Sink or Swim, is less a disappointment than a serious assault on the viewer’s intelligence. The fact that it premiered in Cannes’ competition, rather than in a sidebar “Première” slot, speaks to the general level of one of the festival’s weakest main slates in recent memory.

Sink or Swim was a major hit in France that grossed $40 million,...

The Song In The Crow Movie Trailer Highlights A Big Problem With Bill Skarsgård's Remake
Image
The choice of Post Malone's music in the 2024 "The Crow" remake trailer is controversial. The original film's alt-rock soundtrack set a dark and moody tone that is missing in the remake. Fans may be concerned that the new version is moving too far away from the original's iconic atmosphere.

The first trailer for the 2024 The Crow remake is out now, and the trailer's choice of song is already highlighting a big problem with the Bill Skarsgård movie. 2024's The Crow is a highly anticipated film, with fans of the franchise not getting much major representation since the 1994 Brandon Lee movie. However, the cult comic series is now more relevant than ever, with tons of hype surrounding the franchise's new film. The marketing campaign for The Crow remake may have gotten off on the wrong foot, though, and the trailer's choice of song really proves this.

The Crow is a...

Music Brings Lucy Boynton Back to a Simpler Time — Literally — in Searchlight’s ‘The Greatest Hits’ Trailer
Image
With great power comes great responsibility. It’s a lesson Lucy Boynton (“Bohemian Rhapsody”) grapples with in Searchlight Pictures’ “The Greatest Hits.” The studio released the film’s trailer on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

In “The Greatest Hits,” Harriet (Boynton) finds that listening to certain songs (literally) sweeps her away to another time — like, she becomes an actual time-traveler. She is able to relive special moments with her deceased boyfriend (David Corenswet of “Pearl”), and could potentially even stop the car crash that killed him from even happening. It sounds like there’s a pretty big tradeoff, however, if she takes it to that point.

And then there’s the new guy, played by Justin H. Min (“Beef”), that she meets along the way. “Throughout her journey, Harriet explores the mesmerizing link between music and memory, facing her with difficult decisions of whether altering the past is a choice worth making,” the synopsis reads.

The Cure to Reissue Live Album, Paris, with Unreleased Recordings
Image
The Cure’s double live album, Paris, celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2024. To mark the occasion, Rhino Records has announced a new reissue set for release on March 22nd.

The live recording was remastered by The Cure’s Robert Smith and Miles Showell at Abby Road Studios in London. As part of the process, Smith included two previously unreleased tracks, “Shake Dog Shake” and “Hot Hot Hot!!!”, and reconfigured the tracklist.

The 30th anniversary of Paris will be available as a 1xCD or 2xLP set. Pre-orders are now ongoing.

Paris is the second of two live albums documenting The Cure’s 1992 tour in support of Wish. The first live album, Show, was reissued last year.

The Cure have long been teasing a new album called Songs of a Lost World, but there’s still no word on a release date. The band recently wrapped up their triumphant “Shows of a Lost World Tour,...

Dinosaur Jr. and My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields Cover The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven”: Watch
Image
In a perfect coalescence of late-’80s indie rock delight, Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine joined Dinosaur Jr. onstage in London Tuesday night (November 14th) to perform a rendition of The Cure‘s “Just Like Heaven.”

Mbv and Dino Jr. toured together back in the day, and it looks like they still regularly keep in touch. The latter band brought Shields onstage at a Dinosaur 30th anniversary show in New York in 2015; Shields stopped by Dinosaur Jr.’s Camp Fuzz rock camp in 2019; and J Mascis appeared in a promo clip for Shields’ new Fender pedal last September. And although Dinosaur Jr. have a studio version of their “Just Like Heaven” cover, our records indicate this is the first time Shields has performed it with them live. As you might expect, it was very loud and kicked ass.

Shields also assisted Dinosaur Jr. with “Tarpit” from their 1987 album You’re Living All Over Me,...

Long Shot Soundtrack Guide: Every Song In The Movie & When It Plays
Image
The soundtrack of Long Shot is filled with both modern and nostalgic tunes that perfectly complement the romantic journey of the lead characters. The songs in the movie range from optimistic and upbeat to sentimental and reflective, enhancing the different moments and emotions experienced by Fred and Charlotte. The inclusion of nostalgic songs adds depth to the relationship between the characters, grounding them in a shared history and creating a sense of authenticity.

Supporting the lead stars Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron in the feel-good romantic comedy Long Shot is a fun and upbeat soundtrack riddled with plenty of nostalgic tunes. The movie stars Seth Rogen as the recently unemployed journalist Fred Flarsky who reunites with his former babysitter turned US Secretary of State, Charlotte Field (played by Theron). Their spontaneous reunion fans the flames of a cursory but intimate moment they once shared as teenagers, and Charlize Theron's character...

Every Book Isaac Reads in Heartstopper Season 2
Image
Paris has been the backdrop to many a great romance, and in Heartstopper, that’s no different. A school trip to the French capital in season two is the site of an instant connection between boy…. and bookshop. When Isaac Henderson sees Shakespeare and Co. on the banks of the River Seine, it’s love at first sight. He’s punch-drunk in its aisles, wandering around with wide eyes, balancing an ever-growing stack of titles in his arms and basking in the literary sunshine.

It’s not as though Isaac didn’t come to Paris pre-stocked with books (it’s a good job the schools travelled by coach and not air – you could hardly ask this teen to load up a Kindle). The boy’s never seen without a paperback. Reading is part-obsession, part comfort-blanket to him. Books, as they are for a lot of us, are his shield against the world.

Now that all eight episodes are out, so is the truth: Taylor Swift does indeed provide a little bit of music to our ears. During a pivotal moment in the finale for girlfriends Tara and Darcy, the Grammy winner’s “Seven” from her 2020 Folklore album is cued up — and to lovely effect, we might add.

The Beanie Bubble Review
Image
What's the big problem with disillusionment? I mean, who wants to live in illusionment?

That's one of many great little lines from the new Apple Original, The Beanie Bubble, and it typifies one of the film's main goals — to strip bare the bogus claims of pure meritocracy and lone genius that are so fundamental to inequality, exploitation, and the manipulation of capital. It's a lot to cover in a movie about Beanie Babies.

And yet, The Beanie Bubble does an exceptional job of presenting the creation of the iconic stuffed collectible against the backdrop of these bigger themes. With a healthy dose of '90s nostalgia, delightful humor from the excellent cast, and bold editing choices, the new film is extremely entertaining and very intelligent, thanks to filmmakers Kristin Gore and Damian Kulash. It's also arguably the best example of the boom in product-based films this year — Air, Tetris, Blackberry,...

The Cure Left Millions of Dollars on the Table, and Still Had the Highest-Grossing Tour of Their Career
Image
For their latest North American tour, The Cure kept tickets prices intentionally low. And yet, the band still managed to achieve the highest-grossing tour of their career.

According to Billboard, The Cure’s “Shows of a Lost World Tour” sold 547,000 tickets for a gross of $37.5 million. Both numbers are new career bests: the band’s previous high-water mark for tickets sold in America was 402,000 in 1992, while they more than doubled the gross revenue of their 2016 jaunt ($18 million).

Despite these impressive totals, The Cure could have earned a lot more, but frontman Robert Smith intentionally left millions of dollars on the table so the band could offer reasonable priced tickets to their fans. Per Billboard, the average ticket price for the “Shows of a Lost World Tour” was $68.54 — 37% less than the average ticket price for the year’s other top tours.

As part of the on-sale process for the tour, Smith...

Robert Smith Sings “Plainsong” to His Wife During The Cure Concert: Watch
Image
Robert Smith serenaded his wife of 34 years, Mary Poole, with The Cure’s “Plainsong” during a recent performance on the band’s ongoing “Shows of a Lost World” tour.

A newly released fan-captured video, reportedly from The Cure’s May 24th concert at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl, shows the frontman facing away from the audience and singing directly to Poole backstage. With an unbroken, stoic delivery, he recites the song’s closing lyrics “Like I’m living at the edge of the world/ ‘It’s just the way I smile,’ you said” before taking a long pause to make some discernibly intense eye-contact with his wife, then turning back to the audience. Watch the interaction below.

For the heartwarming display of affection to his high school sweetheart, The Cure singer opted for the opening track of 1989’s Disintegration rather than the album’s highest-charting single, “Lovesong,” which Smith notably wrote...

The Cure Debut New Song “Another Happy Birthday” Live in Concert: Watch
Image
Amidst The Cure’s ongoing North American tour, Robert Smith has been workshopping new music. During the first of three shows at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday night, the band premiered a never-before-heard track called “Another Happy Birthday.”

Even by The Cure’s standards, “Another Happy Birthday” is an especially depressing song. “And your birthday is the worst day/ I’m singing to a ghost/ Happy birthday/ I forget how it goes,” Smith sings alongside lush but muted instrumentation.

The origins of “Another Happy Birthday actually date as far back to 1997. Back then, Smith mentioned the song’s existence in connection to a B-sides and rarities collection he was working on. “It’s unlike anything The Cure have done before. It’s not a verse-chorus-verse type of song, but more fluid,” he told MTV at the time.

It’s not clear if the version Smith debuted on Tuesday night is the same song,...

French Hitmakers Hugo Selignac, Alain Attal Set for Banner 2024 With Studiocanal and Netflix on Gilles Lellouche’s ‘L’Amour Ouf,’ and With WB, HBO Max on Boukherma Brothers’ Next Film (Exclusive)
Image
Alain Attal and Hugo Selignac have formed a producing duo known for delivering original, starry French films that probe uneasy subjects that earn B.O. gold and critical laurels. Attal is in Cannes with Un Certain Regard title “Rosalie,” while Selignac has “Omar à la Fraise” in Critics’ Week.

The pair is now about to hit a new milestone in 2024, starting with Gilles Lellouche’s epic romance drama “L’Amour Ouf,” which boasts a budget of €32 million ($34 million) and marks Studiocanal’s biggest investment in a French-language film to date. They also have “And Their Children After Them,” an adaptation of Nicolas Mathieu’s Goncourt Prize-winning novel to be directed by Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma (“Teddy”), which has been boarded by Warner Bros. France and HBO Max and France Televisions, the first French movie to bring together these three partners.

The Cure Kick Off First North American Tour in 7 Years: Video + Setlist
Image
The Cure kicked off their first North American tour in seven years with a show at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on Wednesday.

The Robert Smith-led band delivered a 29-song setlist that included several new songs presumably taken from their long-teased new album, Songs of a Lost World, including “Alone,” “And Nothing Is Forever,” “A Fragile Thing,” and “I Can Never Say Goodbye.” During the encore The Cure dusted off “A Thousand Hours,” from Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss, and “Six Different Ways” from The Head on the Door (neither song had been played since 1987).

See the evening’s full 29-song setlist and fan-captured performance footage below.

The North American leg of the “Songs of a Lost World Tour” runs through early July. The tour’s ticket on-sale has been quite the ordeal, but there are limited quantities still available via Ticketmaster.

Robert Smith Slams the “Distracting Profligacy” of the Monarchy on King Charles’ Coronation Day
Image
Robert Smith continues to be a man of the people. On King Charles’ coronation day, The Cure frontman shared a political cartoon slamming the royal family and the “distracting profligacy” of the monarchy.

“All hail the nature arbitrary of privilege that’s hereditary,” the cartoon, by the artist First Dog on the Moon, says. “The huge cost of this ceremony could buy each British child a pony/ Yet distracting profligacy must calm the masses all, lest we the fury of the poor unleash/ Let them eat Coronation Quiche!”

As Ultimate Classic Rock points out, Smith has spoken out against the monarchy before. In 2012, he dismissed the idea of ever accepting knighthood from the royals, proclaiming, “I would honestly cut off my own hands before I would go there, because how dare they presume that they could give me an honor? I’m much better than them. They’ve never done anything!

Deadpan Robert Smith interview resurfaces as The Cure singer celebrates 64th birthday
Image
It’s Robert Smith‘s birthday so, naturally, fans of the singer are sharing what is commonly believed to be one of his greatest moments.

The musician, who is the frontman of The Cure, turns 64 today (Friday 21 April).

In 2019, he became a viral sensation on Twitter thanks to his hilariously deadpan response to an excitable reporter.

Smith was in attendance at that year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, where The Cure were being inducted alongside Stevie Nicks, Janet Jackson, Def Leppard, The Zombies, Radiohead and Roxy Music.

The singer approached a chipper interviewer at Brooklyn’s Barclays Centre, who said to him: “Congratulations, The Cure – Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees 2019! Are you as excited as I am?”

Smith, without missing a beat, replied: “Um, by the sounds of it, no.”

The interviewer, brushing off the response, laughed in response, and asked him: “Oh, no, what are we going to do?...

Sing Street: Every Original Song Ranked
Image
2016 was a big year for 1980s nostalgia - and nothing screams '80s throwback like the movie musical Sing Street. Before Stranger Things ushered in a new wave of ‘80s love in the realm of TV, John Carney released his ode to ‘80s music in his film, Sing Street. Debuted at the Sundance Film Festival, the film tells the story of an Irish teen boy (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) who decides to form a band in order to impress a teen model, played by Lucy Boynton. Not only is it a delightful coming-of-age film, Sing Street brings the joy of ‘80s music with original music that could’ve been plucked from the Top 40. With influences of Duran Duran and The Cure, it’s no wonder that the soundtrack has become part of its legacy and has since been turned into a Broadway musical.

Brad Pitt, Damien Quintard Relaunch Historic Miraval Studios as Creative Hub in the South of France
Image
Brad Pitt has teamed up with Emmy-award winning music producer Damien Quintard to relaunch the historic Miraval Studios, where Pink Floyd, Sting, The Cure and AC/DC recorded their albums. It is being redesigned as an exclusive film and music production and post-production facility in a beautiful setting.

The studio is located in a majestic vineyard estate, Château Miraval, that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie leased in 2008, purchased in 2011 and held their wedding there in 2014. Jolie sold her 50% ownership in the property in 2021.

Spanning 1,235 acres of land in the heart of the Provence wine region, the estate occupies a private valley in the village of Correns – the first French village where everything must be farmed organically by law.

The studio is part of a broader project that includes winemaking, in partnership with the Perrin family, a leading French organic winemaker. The estate is renowned for its rosé wines.

This precious corner of France,...
