Born in Sayre, Pennsylvania to Ann & David Gowin. Attended Hawaii Pacific and Mansfield Universities. He has three children, all boys, two of which are identical twins. He is a paranormal and comic book enthusiast. He hosts a weekly parenting video podcast called "The Parent's Lounge". He was mentored in the paranormal by George Lutz, who was the basis for the Amityville Horror book and films.
