Mexican cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto has been plying his creative trade in Hollywood for over two decades. His notably instrumental camerawork can be seen in most of Martin Scorsese’s latest works and Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie.” For his directorial debut, Prieto, however, follows in the footsteps of his earlier collaborator, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. “Pedro Paramo” (2024) is a landmark novel in Latin American literature. One that influenced Gabriel Garcia Marquez to create another, relatively popular, landmark literary work, “One Hundred Years of Solitude.” The novel is one of the early proponents of the artistic phenomenon known as “Magic Realism.”
In “Pedro Paramo,” Juan Preciado (Tenoch Huerta) travels to the abandoned ruins of what once was a bustling town called Comala. Juan was conceived in this place, as this is the place where his father, the eponymous Pedro Paramo (Manuel Garcia Rulfo), lived and ruled. Pedro abandoned Juan’s mother, Dolores (Ishbel Bautista). "From now on, we make the laws." Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for the film Pedro Páramo, the first feature directed by the acclaimed, Oscar-nominated cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto. This film just premiered at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival and will be out on Netflix to watch starting in November. The story follows a dusty road to a town of death. Time shifts from one consciousness to another in a hypnotic flow of dreams, desires, and memories, a world of ghosts dominated by the figure of Pedro Páramo – lover, overlord, murderer. Pedro Páramo not only pays tribute to Mexico's most important literary work, it is also a tribute to love, one as powerful as it is macabre, capable of bringing the entire town of Comala and all its inhabitants down with it... Based on Juan Rulfo's masterpiece. Featuring Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Pedro Paramo, Tenoch Huerta, Dolores Heredia, Ilse Salas, Héctor Kotsifakis,...

Available starting today on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital, we have an exclusive look at the restored version of We Go On, from directors Jesse Holland and Andy Mitton.
"Paralyzed by his fear of dying, Miles Grissom (Clark Freeman) offers a cash reward to the first person who can show him a ghost, an angel, a demon, or anything to prove the existence of an afterlife. He narrows responses down to three candidates - a scientist, a medium, and a worldly entrepreneur. And along with his fiercely protective mother (Annette O'Toole), he embarks on an adventure that will spiral into an unthinkable nightmare.
From Jesse Holland and Andy Mitton, the directors of the chilling YellowBrickRoad, comes a supremely accomplished supernatural thriller, “one of the most gripping paranormal explorations that cinema has seen in years” (Fantasia Int’l Film Festival) and winner of Audience Awards at Dances with Films and the Dead by Dawn Horror Film Festival,...

Manuel García-Rulfo has been cast in the title role of Netflix’s Spanish-language film Pedro Páramo. Shooting has begun on the Mexican film, which marks cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto’s directorial debut.
García-Rulfo is best known for Netflix series The Lincoln Lawyer, which debuted last year. He is leading Pedro Páramo opposite Tenoch Huerta, who will play Juan Preciado in the Mateo Gil adaptation of the Juan Rulfo novel.
They are joined by Ilse Salas, Mayra Batalla, Héctor Kotsifakis, Roberto Sosa, Dolores Heredia, Giovanna Zacarías, Noé Hernández and Yoshira Escárrega among others.
Rulfo’s original novel follows a man who attempts to meet his father for the first time after his mother’s death, only to find a ghost town filled with spectral figures and discovers the reckless and dangerous choices his dad made during his life.

"He has experienced evil in its deepest, darkest form." Rlje Films has debuted an official Us trailer for an indie horror titled Belzebuth, which originally premiered in 2017 at the Sitges Film Festival, and in 2018 at the Brussels Fantastic Film Festival. It's finally getting an official VOD release this summer. Special Agent Emanuel Ritter leads a police investigation into a series of strange, shocking deaths. But after a priest from the Vatican finds a link between the murders and an ancient demon, a descent into horror ensues. Starring Tobin Bell from the Saw franchise and Joaquín Cosío from "The Strain", "Belzebuth is a dark, terrifying new tale of demonic possession." The cast includes Tate Ellington, Giovanna Zacarías, Aurora Gil, and Aida López. I feel like everyone is over these possession horror films, yet they still keep making them. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Emilio Portes' Belzebuth, direct from Rlje's YouTube...

The first teaser trailer for a new indie horror film called Belzebuth has been released and it looks like it’s going to be quite a wild horrific experience. The trailer does a great job of setting up the creepy nightmarish tone.
The story is set on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border, and the it follows special agent Emanuel Ritter (Joaquín Cosio) “as he leads a police investigation into a series of mysterious deaths involving young children at the border of Mexico and U.S.A. The case takes a supernatural turn when a priest (Tobin Bell) from the Vatican links the ancient demon Belzebuth to the murders.”
Bell, who is best known for playing Jigsaw in the Saw films, and he’s looking like a pretty gnarly priest in this movie!
The movie comes from Mexican director Emilio Portes (Meet the Head of Juan Pérez, Pastorela) and also stars Joaquín Cosio,...

"The Pope himself asked us to look into cases..." Raven Banner has released an official promo trailer for the indie horror film Belzebuth, the latest film from Mexican director Emilio Portes. Set on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border, the film is about a Detective investigating the deaths of young children at the border. What seems like a clear case becomes much more intense when a priest of the Vatican appears with another point of view. Tobin Bell (from the Saw series) plays that priest, sporting a pretty gnarly beard along with markings all over his body. Belzebuth also stars Joaquín Cosio, Aida López, Tate Ellington, Giovanna Zacarías, Norma Angélica, Jose Sefami, Yunuen Pardo. This is a freaky trailer and it does a good job of selling this, but I want to see more of what's really going on. Here's the first promo trailer (+ poster) for Emilio Portes' Belzebuth,...
